Who: Elle and Gabriel
When: Wednesday morning
Where: Burnham City Apartments
What: Temperance and Gabriel are seriously the worst room mates ever
Bingo: Dark Secret
Elle sat on the edge of her bed, itching her forearm and chewing her bottom lip as her legs jittered nervously. Everything hurt. Now that it was gone she didn't feel anything but pain. She was hollow.
Gabe knocked on her door tentatively. "Elle?" he asked softly.
"What?" she snapped her head up.
"Can I come in?"
Elle stood up quick, collecting her sheets and shoving them under her bed. She pulled a bathrobe under her body tightly and sat back down on her bed. "Yes," she said after a last minute scrambled of hiding the nights incident. Gabe walked in meekly and pulled a chair up to her bed. "Hey," he muttered quietly.
It had been three months since they had started sleeping together and he still felt guilty. Guilty for sleeping with her, guilty for cheating on his wife, guilty for treating Elle differently the past two weeks, guilty for not loving her back, guilty for letting their affair go on as long as it did. He put his head in his hands and stared at the floor.
"Hi," she said shortly.
"How are you?"
"Fine," she lied.
"Really? Because you look awful… oh my god… Elle!" Gabe jumped up from his chair and grabbed Elle's leg. He examined it as blood trickled down. "What happened? Did you cut yourself?"
Elle was caught. She knew she had to come up with something quick, she couldn't let him know. "Uh… uh… uh…" she pulled her leg away from him. "No, I'm just bleeding, god," she turned away from him. She couldn't let him know it happened to him again.
"Elle," he said softly. "Are you sure?"
"I'm fine, just leave me alone Gabe."
He looked down at the floor and saw the corner of her white bed sheet sticking out. He give it a little tug, a blood soaked linen lay on the ground between them. He knew immediately that she had miscarried even though he didn't even know she was pregnant in the first place. "What the fuck happened?"
She refused to talk.
"Giselle," Gabe rose to his feet and stood over her. "What happened?" he asked near hysterics. "We need to get you to the hospital, but you need to tell me what happened."
"Whatever Gabe, I don't need to go to the hospital! I'm fine! It's not my fault the stupid thing couldn’t handle a few drinks and cigarettes! Besides, I didn't want a kid in the first place!" she screamed. Well… that was her plan. She knew she was pregnant, and she didn't stop partying, she knew what it would do to the baby growing inside her.
"You just… you just killed the baby…"
"Like it matters? It wasn't yours anyways!" she lied, but she knew it would hurt less. Stupid, stupid lying whore, how can you do this to him? The only person you've ever loved. You stupid whore! She tried to hold back the tears but they burst forward, drenching her cheeks.
Gabe didn't know what to say, he just sat across from her. He reached over tentatively but she shied away from him. "Don't touch me," she choked out the words.
Gabe leaned away and sat silent for a few minutes, watching his feet as Elle sniffled. She finally stood up. "I'm going to wash up," she said simply.
"Yeah, yeah… okay," Gabe stood and left the room without looking back. He wasn't going to argue with her about going to the hospital and he didn't really want to sit there anymore, especially if she was going to yell at him. Even though she told him that the baby wasn't his, he knew in his heart that he was.
His stomach gripped him, as he paced back and forth. Anger was twisting and turning inside him, but nothing was as strong as his sadness as he collapsed into the chair in his bedroom and cried.
