This is something that bothers me so I decided I'd rant about it here.

I have family on my mother's side that I can trace back to the second landing at Jamestown. My father's side doesn't go back quite that far, but they do go back to the pre-Revolution. I have family on both sides such that I have relatives that fought in every major American conflict, including both sides of the Civil War. My nearest migrated relatives are seven generations back on both sides. I even have a marginal amount (like 1/152) of native blood in me. So, pray tell, does that not make me a 'native' American?

Did someone accuse you of not being American or something? oO; I'm 100% Puerto Rican with most of my ancestry coming from Spain~ You can tell in my dad that he has the heritage of the natives of Puerto Rico (the Taino) because of his tan skin... and apparently we traced back and found some German and African in our bloodline which is WILD! XD

No it's more like I was had a long discussion with a somewhat racist person about Native Americans that left me in a foul mood. And then I was thinking back at my own heritage and realized I'm 'native' too, more so than anyone else I know and yet I get absolutely nothing for it. I dunno, it was something on my chest and I decided to let it out.

Racist people are so weird. I can't imagine assuming everyone in the same race acting the same. I guess it's because me, for example. I'm not like any of the other hispanics I know. So much so that people don't realize I'm hispanic until they hear me speak Spanish. XDDD I just don't get how their brains work where they can not like someone just because of their skin color or heritage.

It used to be that people would treat me normally and respect me a great deal until I opened my mouth and demonstrated just how autistic I was. Then I usually got 'tolerated' by adults or 'bullied' by my peers. I personally see that as a kind of racism, but I don't think that most would agree with me.

Personally I think the whole 'no child is born racist' is a load of bullshit. Humans don't like that which is unlike themselves, its part of the pact instinct.

Well, it is discrimination. It wouldn't be considered racism as Autism isn't a race, is all.

I think they say that 'cause most kids will play with other kids regardless of skin color. I know Isaac doesn't care about what skin color his friends are, as long as they want to play superheroes with him. XD

I know it's not a race but the US government treats it like a racial status. Couldn't tell you why.

That makes sense, in a way.

Huh, that's weird. Well, the government tends to make as little sense as possible to me most of the time.

I do admit that when comparing myself to someone who's not autistic there's are certain amount of 'me' and 'them' going on that's kind of unpleasant that I never get when I'm comparing myself to someone of with the same disorder.

It's probably also easier to talk to people who can relate.

For me its not just a matter of relating its also a matter of not having that person care about my social mistakes or having that person mean exactly what they say. Queenie and I don't beat around the bush with each other and we aren't offended by the other's bluntness. We don't care if the other isn't looking at us when we're speaking. We don't care we're sounding monotone.

Yeah, Queenie's just easier for me to talk to because I don't have to make myself appear more normal to be understood.

Well you type normally! I have a hard time looking people in the eye when I talk to them... It's just weird really to me. I don't do it the whole time I'm talking usually I divert my attention elsewhere. *shrugs* Monotone on the other hand isn't something I do really but I have friends who speak in monotone so I'm used to it. XD

I pretty much type the way I talk in terms of language.

One of the reasons I write so much fanfiction is to help myself try and understand normal people better by role playing their actions in a story setting. It's often hard to tell if a written word was done by an autistic person unless something kind of fundamental wasn't adding up.

But in person I can pass as a normal, non-autistic person, just don't ask me to lie (still can't get that right after 21 years of kind of trying). But in typing I don't really have to tell you my tone, my body language, or expect you to do anything but take my words at face value. You have to take typed words at face value because there's no non-verbals for context for hidden meanings.

That's why I type normally.

That makes sense. Still, I have a feeling if we hung out in real life I wouldn't think you were weird, even if I already know you're autistic. Just because some of the things people in the US consider to be how you're supposed to socialize... I come from a different cultural background, so things change.

Most of my real friends don't. I tend to hang out with alternative, off the norm kinds of people anyways.
