I should really be in bed. I have an afternoon game tomorrow.

But I'm not sleepy.

I miss F.

So. Um, what do you all do in your spare time? Or when you should be doing other things?

A game? What kind? Like cricket? Or horse back trials?

Oh, I know that feeling so well though. It's hard to sleep, all the little thoughts buzzing around.

Spare time? When I was at home I used to read, but my father complained that it was putting too many ideas in my head, said he didn't need a son who was less interested in facts than ideas. That's not an issue anymore. Neither is free time.

You're the second person to ask me if I play cricket today. Do I give off a very British vibe? I don't think I do. But I play baseball, to answer your question.

I never read too much. Spent most of my time playing outside. Probably not a surprise though, huh? Most bookworms don't become pro-athletes, do they?

So, no free time for you?

Baseball? Um, is that kind of like cricket? I think I've heard of it, but they don't play it where I'm from.

Pro-athlete? So you get payed to play this baseball? That sounds amazing! I assume you enjoy it, and getting paid to do what you love is always a plus. I was going to be chief inspector probably, like my father. I do spend a large amount of my time outdoors now, but it's not really the type of thing my family would be proud of. Um, but yes.

Um. Eh, a bit, I guess. There's bats and balls and running. Close enough.

Yep, I get paid. It's nice, though it can be exhausting. But I can't imagine doing anything else.

If you were going to be chief inspector, why are you not? What are you doing instead? And what you have been inspecting in a chiefly manner?

That makes me happy to hear.

Oh well, it was decided that perhaps I was not the type of person who would do well in that sort of position. Now I'm...I'm helping. But I would have been inspector in my hometown! It's not a large town, only several thousand people, but it's still a relatively important position even to those residing within the royal city. We don't have jurisdiction there, obviously, but we would have to give reports and things on any troubles in the outlying provinces. Especially these days when uprisings are likely.

Uprisings? Sounds...fun? Whereabouts are you from then?

Oh, uprisings are never fun. We're trying to quell revolution. Those sorts of things only lead to disorder and disquiet. Not the polite or logical way to go about things at all.

I'm from Morgan. It's about 200 kilometers from the royal city. Though, I suppose if you're interested in geography that's roughly the middle of Western Europe.

You're from the colonies then? What was that like?

(Reply to this)(Parent)(Thread)

[info]sdgreen

I suppose not. Though sometimes that might be the only way to get things to change.

Ah. Never been there. I've been to England, Ireland. Went to Japan for a game. Mostly I don't leave the country, though.

The colonies? I...suppose I am. From one of the actual colonies, too. New York.

Oh a game! I do love games! Are we talking Monopoly or Operation?

Neither, though I do play a mean game of Monopoly with cousins' kids. It's a baseball game.

Baseball! With the bats and the balls and the bases and the big ole stadium.

You're a professional athlete?

Listen, I used all but $10 on fixing my camera, so I put that last bill on a bet that you'll win. If you do, I get enough money to make it to Indianapolis and find a job. If you lose, I die.

Good luck.

Oh, shit, why would you do a thing like that?

Not that I don't always try my best, but I really will today. Goddamn...

[info]briannethebee

I did that because I have no options. I could do freelance photography for a newspaper or twelve, but I don't feel very Peter Parker.

Right. Because redheads from Connecticut do so well begging on the streets.

Besides, I don't ask for help.

So happens I could be in the market for a new photo shoot. I could put you in touch with my agent.

God, there you go with your charity again. You've never even seen my photos. Besides, I don't believe in posed pictures. So if that's what you're looking for, forget it.

You're assuming a lot. And I never said it was charity. Charity would be me handing you cash. I offered to get you the opportunity for a job.
