A Guilded Cage
The first day had been spent wandering outside around the grounds of the palace. Helena had a hard time sitting still and being confined to a certain area had made it harder. Dinner had been tense, but Helena had been polite and on her best behavior. She had even put a filter between her brain and mouth to not offend her host.

The second day she spent wandering inside the palace. She had to admit that it was very beautiful. She could almost imagine herself as a princess and living in a place like this. Though as beautiful as it was, it was still a cage. A week could be a very long time.

Helena walked slowly down a long hallway and looked at the masterpieces that adorned the walls.

"You look beautiful." Black Adam says, a slight note of hesitation in his voice. She'd been polite, if distant, over the last two days, though Adam had been trying.

He noticed that she looked at several of the paintings, a few of a woman with dark hair, olive skin and dark eyes. When Adam looks at the painting of the woman, then at Helena, he's certain that he sees a resemblance.

Other paintings are of Black Adam himself. He did not commission them, but several of his people painted them all the same. One frame, in particular, will stand out as the work of a small child, who drew a picture of Black Adam in school and hoped for him to see it.

He enjoyed the gesture so much that he placed it with the other works.

"Have you eaten, Helena?" he asks, moving to stand beside her.

	"Excellent. The play in is Italian; the acting troupe is from Rome. I thought you might enjoy it and they were willing to work on short notice." Black Adam says. Adam smiles at her again. "You should smile more often. It truly suits you." he says.

"I have always wanted to live where there are fresh flowers and grass beneath my feet, but a desert is not conducive to such things. So I had this garden commissioned that I might have what I desire and still enjoy the desert heat in the meantime. I am glad you like them." he says.

He pauses to consider if his next question is too personal.

"May I ask what you do for a living?"

	Adam's estimation of Helena rose somewhat. In Khandaq, teachers were respected even more than parents; it always amused and saddened him that Americans couldn't value educators as the rest of the world did. "Do you teach small children or young adults?" Adam asks, genuinely interested in her answers. (Reply to this)(Parent)(Thread)

	Lunch went well. His meetings less so. At some point in the day, Helena's dress arrived, a shimmering black ensemble that fits her perfectly. Adam wears his best cape as he arrives at Helena's door, knocking softly. (Reply to this)(Thread)

The knock on the door made her jump. Helena /knew/ it was coming, but it still caught her off guard. She didn't know why, but for some reason she felt as nervous as a schoolgirl on her first date.

But this wasn't a date.

This was just an evening out at the theater with someone she /wasn't/ interested in and with someone she was just upholding her word to. It wasn't a date.

Then why in God's name was she nervous?

She took one last look in the floor length mirror and made her way to the door. She took a deep breath and reminded herself this wasn't a date.

She opened the door.

	Black Adam doesn't know what he is expecting, but when he sees Helena, even he pauses to let his eyes drink in her. "Perfect." he breathes, a smile coming unbidden to his face. "You look exquisite. 	Black Adam takes her hand and leads her out of the front door to palace. At the bottom of the steps, a carriage awaits. Adam will help Helena into the carriage, then join her.
