STUDENT PROFILE

OOC.

NAME/ALIAS: Heather (for contact details, see [info]thecourtier).

May we share the above information with players in game? Of course!

IC.

NAME: Mafalda Elfrida Prewett.
PB: Courtney Halverson.
AGE/BIRTHDAY: September 21st 1977, 18.
NATIONALITY: English/British.
QUIDDITCH POSITION: Mafalda doesn't do anything as physically undignified as play Quidditch, thank you! She prefers more ladylike forms of exercise, such as walking or horse-riding.
SCHOOL ORGANIZATIONS: She'd join Chess club (though she prefers Muggle to wizarding pieces which creep her out) and join the choir as an Alto.

SEXUAL ORIENTATION: Heterosexual, not that it means anything. Her career comes before boys (she's a Slytherin for a reason!).

HOUSE:
Slytherin Virgos might not be the most outgoing of their class, but they are often among the most wise and their canny observation and lightning-fast analysis of any given situation will take them far. Often behind that quiet mien hides the mind of a big dreamer, who had both the imagination to come up with a concept and the power to follow it through. These Slytherins are an interesting mix of politeness and politics, pragmatism and intuition. They make good alchemists, Ministry bureaucrats (well, somebody's got to do it), and academic advisors. They are often underestimated. This is most unwise.

Mafalda is one of those Slytherins whose power originates from a tendency to observe. She is quiet, calm and socially reserved, more often than not choosing to remain in the background. As a result she was not chosen to be her house's prefect, but that doesn't make her a bad leader - her perceptiveness means she would make a brilliant 'power behind the throne' type. She is extremely ambitious, as befits most of her housemates, yet is cunning enough to hide it where necessary, as she is people smart enough to know that if someone suspects that you are using them, they won't do what you want. Admittedly, the fact that she is effectively a Muggleborn made the Hat waver upon its decision, but her personal attributes proved it right and showed her to blend in seamlessly.

SECONDARY HOUSE:
Ravenclaw Virgos are skeptical, analytical, mathematically oriented, and sharp witted. Many become great magi, alchemists, and astrologers. These people love ideas and theoretical discussion, and their leaps of intuition can be uncanny. The Earth element makes them shrewd and pragmatic, and keeps them from flying off into cloudcuckooland.

Mafalda's sharp wit and relative ease with academic matters mean she would make a pretty reasonable Ravenclaw, also. However, it wasn't her first choice house as she just isn't as passionate about learning as a true Ravenclaw would be - she places importance on it because it is one more stepping stone towards getting her where she wants to end up.

PHYSICAL APPEARANCE: Mafalda stands taller than many of her cousins, being a fairly tall young woman of 5'10. She is somewhat thankful for the attention drawn by her red hair, as it brings the eye upwards past her body which is on the slightly too-thin side. She wishes her body was more feminine sometimes, but recognises that there are advantages to not being knock-out gorgeous. She has her paternal grandfather's blue eyes, and walks with surprising grace given her long limbs and height. She dresses simply, without wearing clothes that are too revealing, but knows what suits her and sticks to it.

PERSONALITY: Likes: Being admired, dressing well, formal occasions, being in control of her everyday life, and the colour of her red hair. She's proud that it's natural, doesn't come out of a bottle and yet looks subtle without being brash.
Dislikes: Being shown disrespect on the basis of her blood status, wearing outrageous fashions, drunk and disorderly behaviour, people making decisions for her, and the fact she isn't particularly shapely.
Quirks: Being a rather busy person, Mafalda is often seen with a pencil behind her ear (when taking quick notes in class, she prefers one to using quills which require slower handwriting), or through it if she has styled her red hair into a bun.
She paints her nails Slytherin green when not in uniform, occasionally with silver details such as french tips, or other symbols such as stars and snowflakes.
Strengths: She respects people's privacy, isn't afraid of a challenge, can focus her attention and energy on life's important things, doesn't beat around the bush and has a lot of love to give.
Weaknesses: She usually puts herself first, is very defensive about her blood status, and prefers not to lead so she doesn't cop the flack when things go wrong.

Generally, Mafalda doesn't fit the stereotype of angry, feisty redhead. She appears to be cool, calm and collected, a young woman who will back away from a fight with dignity and thus sometimes not at all feared. This would be wrong. Inside, if she feels wronged in some way, she will remember it well and remember the slight for the future. Mafalda would be content to remember for years something you have done wrong if it meant a suitable opportunity for revenge presented itself.
It would be unfair, however, if this was the only image of her one held. Amongst the more positive aspects of her personality is her big heart - she is far from being a bitch, and whilst she may appear cold, those who show they are worth her love and care will not go unrewarded. She just doesn't show it often, particularly in public, as the last thing she wants is to appear weak. Having survived as the daughter of a Squib and a Muggle for six years thus far in the house of Salazar Slytherin, however, she shouldn't really worry about this. She is in reality anything but weak.

HISTORY: Family: Her FATHER is Oscar Hyperion Prewett, a 47 year old squib who works as an accountant for a large Muggle chain of high street clothing stores. His rise up the ranks in his job show the ambition that his only daughter inherited.
Her MOTHER is Lydia Adele Mitchell, a 44 year old Muggle who works part time as a teaching assistant in the primary school Mafalda attended up to the age of eleven. The fact she doesn't work much is a status symbol to her father, who likes showing off the fact that he can keep his wife without her having to work unless she wants to.
Her OLDEST BROTHER is Mark Orion Prewett, who is now a 21 year old final year law student at Magdalen College, Oxford University. His academic focus is something his sister admires, and she is half tempted to seek a way for herself to be able to study for a degree upon leaving Hogwarts, just to prove that she can.
Her OLDER BROTHER is Julian Ignatius Prewett, a 20 year old second year student at the University of Birmingham, where he reads English. He isn't as obviously intelligent as his siblings, but something he shares with Mafalda is a deceptively strong intuition with people, being able to read them well. They may neither be able to do anything about what they find out, but emotionally they are prepared for anything.

She is also the cousin-once-removed of Molly Weasley (née Prewett), Fabian and Gideon Prewett, being their cousin Oscar's daughter. As a result she is the second cousin of Molly's children with Arthur Weasley.

WHERE DID SHE GROW UP?: Born in Tiverton, Devon in the autumn of 1977, Mafalda and her elder brothers only lasted there until 1979. Oscar Prewett took against his cousins and brought his wife and children to the opposite end of the country, far away from the reminders of home and the arguments he had with his birth family. Since the age of two, Mafalda has lived in Altrincham, the affluent Cheshire town where many people commute to the city of Manchester.

HOW DID HER FAMILY AFFECT HER?: Due to her father's split from the rest of his family, the only members Mafalda is close to are her parents and siblings. Until Hogwarts, she had never met her second cousins or their parents and still hasn't met Gideon or Fabian in the flesh. Upon arriving at school, the only Weasleys who she became immediately aware of were Fred and George (in her own year) and Percy Weasley, three years older. She knows none of them well, although Percy is probably the family member she would get on well with, sharing his ambition to do well in life. However, she was in a completely different house to the whole branch of the family, most of whom come across as prejudiced against Slytherins (at least, this is how her house perceives Gryffindors to be!), so she protects herself against their rejection by not seeking them out. However, she has found her life in the north to be terribly lonely and would secretly love to know them better and be accepted - not that she would thank anyone who suggested it.

WHAT EVENTS SHAPED HER PRESENT LIFE?: Life carried on in a rather normal fashion until her third year, when Harry Potter arrived to begin his Hogwarts education and turned the place Potter mad. Like the rest of her house, Mafalda was rather sceptical about his talents as a wizard, and thought he was a kid who had been very, very lucky, although he seemed pleasant enough. The other disadvantage, of course, was that the boy's mixed heritage caused the more prejudiced members of Slytherin to bandy some rather unpleasant terms around the common room when discussing him, something that made her uncomfortable.

Fourth year saw the events of the Chamber of Secrets, which increased the turmoil further. As she was effectively a Muggleborn - her father having no magical ability whatsoever - she clammed up when certain people expressed positive opinions about what was happening to those of non-magical blood. She worried about her own skin, and secretly crossed her fingers that her Prewett heritage would keep her safe. When Ginny was captured and taken into the Chamber, she felt awful for her and slapped an older boy who she perceived as being indifferent about her second cousin's fate. It was about this time that her relationship to the Weasleys became common knowledge in her house, and she couldn't wait to go home for the summer and escape the gossip for a few months.

At least she felt her fifth year was relatively quiet. Apart from the DADA teacher vanishing a few times for reasons unknown, her education was relatively undisrupted and she passed all of her OWLs. Her results were rather decent, gaining a respectable number of O grades and nothing lower than an EE. She would have liked more Os, but got what she wanted for the subjects she wished to take on for sixth year, so accepted it.

Sixth year was the year of the Triwizard tournament, and this really got on Mafalda's nerves. At least it got rid of Quidditch for a year (a pasttime Mafalda really doesn't think much of, given her own poor skills on a broom and the fact everyone seems to be OBSESSED with it), but the discussion of tasks in minute detail bored her rigid. She attended tasks in the end, and supported Cedric Diggory as the rest of Slytherin did, though didn't wear an anti-Potter badge as she felt it un-necessarily cruel - and that's just not her style.

She is now in her final year at school and is determined to make a success of it. Often seen in the library or occupying her favourite armchair by the fire with a book, she has developed a habit (which is rather annoying to some of the slackers of her year) of getting her assignments done in double quick time, spending the rest of the period available to her doing the occasional check. So far, it is a strategy that works for her.

OTHER FACTS:
Wand: Ash and Mahogany, 13.5 inches, dragon heartstring. Somewhat like its owner, this is a wand that is tough and unbending on the outside, yet potentially vulnerable in the middle.
Patronus: A Persian cat - longhaired and fluffy, but capable of great fierceness when riled.
Boggart: Being humiliated and cast out by other witches and wizards for being inferior.
Classes: Ancient Runes, Arithmancy, Charms, DADA, Potions and Transfiguration. The first two, her optional subjects, were chosen as they were arguably the two most academically challenging of the new options that presented themselves in 3rd year, and Mafalda's ridiculously strong urge to prove herself meant that these were the logical choice. Charms, whilst one of the easier core subjects (in her view), paired naturally with Transfiguration, another subject chosen for its difficulty. Along with DADA they are her trinity of wand based subjects, and finally, Potions because it is such a magical seeming subject. Isn't that what everyone thinks wizards do? Cast spells and make concoctions? Her desire to prove that she is a worthy witch strikes again.
