Name: Hannah Elizabeth Abbott
Age: 23
Blood (pure/half/muggleborn): Half
Former House: Hufflepuff
Affiliation during the war (Order/DE/neutral): Order
Sexuality: Heterosexual
Marital Status: Single
Children: Daughter, Leah Elizabeth Abbott-McLaggen (2 years)

Background:
Hannah was born to a wizard father and Muggle mother in the countryside of southern England where, as a child of mixed blood heritage, they felt she would be safer; her father had heard whispers of a growing anti-Muggle movement in London and wished to bring up his family away from such dangerous circles. Having had a fairly idyllic childhood where she was adored by both parents and sheltered from the evils of the outside world, as Hannah grew older and the dangers of the first War passed, she was told about magic for the first time. As she had been in trouble at her Muggle primary school for pranks she couldn't even explain - notably setting a teacher's hairpiece on fire while he was wearing it - she was delighted to finally find out the truth. She couldn't wait to get to Hogwarts.

School was everything she expected it to be. To her Hufflepuff dad's delight, she excelled in Herbology and briefly considered work as a professional herbologist once she had left Hogwarts. This changed, however, with the onset of the Second Voldemort War at the end of her fifth year. As one of the few to take History of Magic at NEWT level, Hannah discovered a passion for history and politics that few of her classmates seemed to have discovered. When her beloved mother was killed by Death Eaters in sixth year, Hannah left the school but kept up with her studies - "A wise man learns from his own mistakes. A wiser man learns from other peoples'" becoming her mantra. Upon returning for seventh year, she threw herself into her assignments with the hard work of a true Hufflepuff, gaining a coveted O upon graduating.

During the heat of the war itself, her skills came in handy at the Ministry's Muggle Relations office. Her personal background and academic aptitudes made her perfect for the job of liasing with the Muggle Ministry of Defence, helping to fight against Death Eater attacks on non-magic peoples. However, she was injured in an attack on the Muggle Ministry by Death Eaters (Millicent Bulstrode and Caleb Warrington claimed responsibility for the attack when she finally came clean about it during her stay at Asylum Arcanum), taking damage to her leg and suffering from Post Traumatic Stress Disorder as a result.

Her time in the Asylum was personally eventful. The chaos surrounding an infertility virus meant that she became pregnant after a drunken one night stand with Cormac McLaggen. Their daughter is now two years old.

Personality: There are two sides to Hannah's personality - the real Hannah, and the Hannah inflicted upon her usual self by the onslaught of the war. Real Hannah is a kind natured, fiercely loyal young woman who is everything a good Hufflepuff should be. She would fight to the end for those she loves and sticks up for them whenever necessary, although she does prefer to avoid conflict, which is why she didn't take an active part in fighting the war (though this does not mean she cannot defend herself).

Wartime Hannah is now at the surface of Hannah's psyche, covering the rest of her so that you can only see who she used to be by deeply scratching the surface. She is quiet and introverted, losing the innocence and brightness that she was known for in her younger years. There is still a tiny speck of hope glowing within her, which is what keeps her going in these dark times.

Appearance: Hannah was once described by a fellow Hufflepuff as a "cute, tiny, pixie little thing", with her long blonde hair usually tied in girlish pigtails that flowed down her back, and a sweet smile that made people melt. She doesn't smile quite so much anymore, but when she does, it is clear that her round features have filled out and become more womanly. She is not the girl she used to be. Her preferred hairstyle now she is a busy working mother is either pulled back in a simple ponytail, or if she has time, in a bun at the nape of her neck.

What is your character's worst fear?: Hannah is terrified that her father, who went missing during her final year at school, will never be found now that the war is over and he still hasn't been recovered, alive or dead. She is also, like any mother, terrified of something happening to her child that she cannot prevent.

What is your character's one utmost desire?: Hannah wants to recover as much of her normal life as possible - firstly by regaining her relationship with her father, then by having a normal life with her friends. She could afford a fairly nice place to live, as her mother bequeathed everything she had to Hannah, and she received Ministry compensation for the loss of her father. Ultimately, though, Hannah wants to be loved. Her first and only boyfriend, Ernie McMillan, wasn't right for her, and she never felt 'that way' about Cormac. So really, she wants to know how it feels.

What is your character's worst memory?: Finding out that her mother had died. She was whisked out of a herbology lesson and taken away from school without being given the chance to say goodbye - and all in the name of security.

What is your character's biggest secret?: That she had been a virgin when she became pregnant and hasn't slept with anyone else since.

How do you think your character will react to the merging of the Magical and Muggle worlds? Will they get involved or attempt to shy away from the merge?: Hannah would be slightly apprehensive at the beginning, not through any prejudice towards Muggles - for her own beloved mother was one - but because of the same reasons that wizards had kept their powers a secret for so long. She wasn't entirely convinced that the new regime wouldn't be rushed through so fast that mistakes would be made in attempting cohesion, and she was nervous about one group trying to assert itself over the other. However, she knows it's going to happen and figures that she might as well try and ensure that the change goes as smoothly as possible. She is returning temporarily to her old Muggle-Magical liason job, in order to help things run smoothly as the two governments combine. She is acting both in an advisory capacity to the magical politicians, and as a practical teacher of the Muggle ones about magical ways and culture, so they could begin to adapt to working with their news colleagues. However, when this is done, she hopes to go into business using her inheritance and various compensation funds received after the war. Ultimately, she would like to buy and run The Leaky Cauldron pub, or similar.

OOC: 7th year entry, pre-DH.

I have a feeling that this Masquerade is either going to be a lot of fun or a right royal pain in the arse.

The Music is going to be an interesting challenge. I suggested to Hermione Granger that seeing as integration is a theme of this party, that if we can figure out a way of getting Muggle music to play, we could perhaps have a mix of Muggle and Wizarding music, seeing as we have Muggleborn students and students from all-Magical backgrounds at Hogwarts. So I'm working out possible ways that that could happen.

As for why it could be one huge annoyance, some people like the date idea, some people don't, and frankly I'm not all that sure I care anymore. Finding a date is much too much hassle as it is, so I'm not bothering to form an opinion on this - if other people want to debate it until the cows come home, then that's their prerogative.

In other news, I just received my first package of Muggle magazines and newspapers forwarded to me by Dad from my Auntie Cheryl (Mum's sister, a Muggle who knows about me and Dad being magical but can't use the Owl Post herself or anything). Dad clearly didn't see what was inside, seeing as one of the magazines was Cosmopolitan. What on earth did she mean by sending me that? Is it a hint or something?

I'm glad of the papers, though, it'll be great to catch up with what's going on in the Muggle world. If anyone wants dibs on reading them when I'm done, let me know.

OOC: From the same game - Justin and Hannah discuss their situations, including Hannah's missing Dad.

Who: Justin and Hannah
Where: The Hufflepuff CR
When: Late one evening
Rating: PG

Justin always enjoyed starting his weekends on a Thursday night. He would sit in the common room with his latest comic books and read them, seeming somewhat out of place as other students worked fervently around him.

He had just finished his Adventures of Superman comic and was about to pick up Teen Titans when he saw Hannah storming past in a flourish of robes.

“Hannah, where are you off to? Is there a meeting I’m forgetting about?” he called after her. He didn’t think that there were Prefect meetings on a Thursday evening, but he was usually bad at remembering them. Hannah and Ernie were usually the ones dragging him to them as it was.

Hannah had been headed towards the common room door, not really concentrating on her surroundings, when she heard Justin call out to her. In fact, she'd carried on going for several steps after she'd recognised his voice coming from the sofa near the fireplace, but with the news that she's just had, she just wasn't thinking straight.

She wasn't even sure that she could, truth be told. Still, she could never be rude to Justin - he was one of the few people she knew she could trust with anything and know he wouldn't spill the details - so she hesitantly turned round, tightly gripping her bag's strap for comfort. 'Better hide that, though' she thought, crumpling the parchment in her hand.

"Um, sorry?" she mumbled, realising that she'd never even recognised what exactly he was saying to her.

Justin frowned, recognising that something was troubling his friend. “I asked if there was something that I’m forgetting about. You passed in such a rush that I didn’t know if you were running late or something,” he tried to explain, sitting up and putting his comic book down.

"Oh, right" she replied, getting nervous as she saw Justin's frown. She knew that look - the one that was full of suspicion and concern at the same time, the one that meant that sooner rather than later, he was going to wrangle out of her the details of what was going on. Tightening her first closer around the piece of parchment she held, she tried to look him in the eye and smile.

The result was rather weak. "Erm, no, no Prefect meeting" she continued, daring to throw a quick glance towards the door.

“Then what is it?” he asked as he stood up to head over to where she was. One did not read Batman comics and not pick up on various detective skills. “Is everything alright?” he asked softer as he neared.

'Oh god, why's he coming over? What do I do now?' the little blonde thought to herself, not realising that she had now moved her clenched fist behind her back, as far out of Justin's reach as she could manage. Her eyes lowered to the ground, she stared at the carpet and muttered to her friend, "Nothing. Just something I have to deal with before the morning, that's all..."

Justin narrowed his eyes and crossed his hands across his chest. “Hans, don’t think I haven’t noticed that everything isn’t sunshine and rainbows with you. I know you have been on edge about you father lately, but you don’t have to go through this alone. You know that I’m here for you, along with Susan and Ernie, and that we would do anything to help you.” He noticed that she seemed to be trying to hide something from him, but he let her at the moment. He figured that if he felt it would be necessary, he could always overpower her and take whatever it was that she was hiding.

Hannah gulped. 'Oh crap, he's got me now...' she cursed to herself, wondering what the hell she was supposed to do next. "Who said it was anything about that?" she snapped, before realising what she had done. If anything was going to reveal the truth to Justin's inquisitive mind, that was it.

'I don't want anyone else to know about Dad... too scary... but how do I deal with this by myself?' she wondered, sinking miserably into the nearest chair.

As expected, he had guessed correctly. Her defensive reaction to the question was all the proof he needed. He could feel his heart break as he saw the look of complete devastation on her face. He kneeled down so he was eyelevel with her. “Look, Hans, I’m here for you whether you want me to be or not. You need to talk to someone about this or it will destroy you inside.” He refrained himself from making the comparison between the way Hannah was acting with Peter Parker and Batman.

"Don't wanna" she mumbled, her last shred of defiance against him, before realising that she wasn;t going to get out of this. She couldn't bring herself to put it into words, though - it was too much. Speaking her troubles would only make them real.

With a sigh, she allowed the slip of parchment to fall from her grasp, her hand hanging limply as she didn't dare to move. She tensed, waiting for Justin's reaction once he had read what was written there.

"Dear Miss Abbott - it is my solemn duty to inform you that your father has been placed on our missing persons list. Due to your family's personal circumstances, his case has been placed under the care of the Auror office. We will inform you immediately should he be found. Yours sincerely, Kingsley Shacklebolt."

Justin eyed the parchment before taking it and reading it, bracing himself since he knew that whatever it said was enough to distress Hannah. His eyes widened as he read it, his heart going out to his friend. “Are the Muggle authorities involved as well?” Justin asked softly as he looked up at Hannah.

Hannah forced herself to look away as Justin read the note, continuing to delude herself with the notion that if she didn't see his reaction, her situation would become less real. yet his words brought her back down to earth with a thump, and she held her head tightly in her hands, steadfastly refusing to look at anything but the carpet beneath her feet.

"I don't know" she said quietly, her voice barely louder than a whisper. "That's all it says. That's all I have. That's all they want to TELL ME" she spat, yanking her hands through her pigtails in frustration. She felt so helpless, and she knew that no-one was going to be able to make her feel better.

Justin leaned forward and did the only thing that he could think of at that moment: he gave her a hug. After a moment he pulled back so he could once again look into her eyes. “I can owl my dad and see who he can get in touch with. He works with top quality Private Investigators who can be called on, and if I asked him to I know that he will put every one of them on the case,” he told her.

Sinking into Justin's arms, the relief that someone at last wanted to comfort her - it had been way too long since someone had given her a proper hug - meant she had to stop herself from bursting into tears. Sniffling a little, she forced herself to look into her friend's face.

"Thanks" she said weakly, attempting to smile. "It's just that I - I don't know what it is the Aurors are doing, that's all. No-one's told me anything" she finished sadly, with a sigh.

“Then there will be a second investigation. All they need is to start at the house, and they should be able to go from there. I’ll make sure they keep us informed and in the know,” he promised her.

Hannah shrugged meekly, playing with the tips of her hair that had come loose from the pigtail she'd wrenched loose just a moment earlier. "I just want to know what's happening, Justin. I can't take this anymore - the not knowing, a second parent missing..."

Gulping back more tears, she stood up abruptly and turned around.

Justin was about to reply when he found himself falling backwards. He made a mental note to owl his father first thing in the morning about the investigation, and Justin hated the fact that he could do nothing to help with the investigation. But before he could dwell on that thought for too long he scrambled back to his feet and placed what he hoped was a comforting hand on Hannah’s shoulder.

“It’ll be alright. My dad will make sure that he’s found, and he will keep us updated. I promise.”

Slipping free from Justin's grip with a swift movement of her arm - she wasn't a Chaser for nothing - Hannah miserably took a couple of steps further towards the door. Offending one of her closest friends was as far from her mind as could possibly be but she couldn't stay any longer. What she needed was to be alone somewhere she could sob her heart out without embarrassing herself in front of anybody.

Still, she knew she could trust Justin once he promised something, and turned back to nod at him meekly. "OK" she said. "That'd be great, thankyou. I, I just - I need to be on my own for a bit."

Just as she was about to disappear from the common room, she smiled the closest thing she'd gotten to a genuine smile all evening. "Thanks again, Justin. I really appreciate it."
