Family/Relationships
Immediate Family His father is the rather famous vampire Cosmin Valemont; his deeds are known mostly under the name Valemont, people rarely refer to him by his first name. His mother is a lovely witch named Grimhilt Loveland. He has an older brother and sister: Dieter (21) and Viorica (18). Dieter went to Durmstrang. Viorica went to Big Sky. Sighard chose Dresden to be his own person, much in the way that his siblings chose their schools.

He's close with his father, but from a distance. They exchange weekly/monthly letters. He admires his mother, but he's not mature enough to admit it to her. He's much closer with Viorica than Dieter, simply a matter of age.

Familiar: A barn owl named Loki.
Any other relations we should know about: His maternal grandparents are estranged. The family visits his paternal grandparents every few years (as they still live in Germany).
Significant Others: N/A at present.
Friends: Anyone who stuck with him through the Valemont ordeal.
Enemies: Still grudges some of the friends who ditched him when he reclaimed the name Valemont.

Personality
Likes: The idea of notoriety, but not the reality. Puzzles. Adventures (no matter how stupid or bizarre). The new, the unexplored, the unknown.
Dislikes: When people point out that he looks tired; thanks, he knows. The idea that people can turn on you because of something you have no control over.
Quirks: - Bilingual, speaks English and German.
- Suffers fairly severe insomnia, but he doesn't talk about it and resorts to drinking anything caffeinated to get through the day.
Secrets: He already revealed the big one he was supposed to hide.
Strengths: Adventurous, extremely smart (book and street)
Weaknesses: Dangerous risk-taking, not the best track record for sound decision making

Detailed personality: Disgustingly smart. He could probably ask for a time-turner and take every class ever, but he's not that devoted to school. He'd rather learn from a number of situations, academia notwithstanding. He finds you can learn just as much from the old man on a park bench as you can from the old man lecturing from behind a podium.

He likes adventure and danger, perhaps tipping toward stupidity.

He's learned to live with his father's reputation at school (which is vaguely threatening in an almost sexy way), but he longs to be out from under it. He's very independent and very much is own person, desperate to strike off on his own and explore (which ironically, is almost exactly how his father is).

Personal History: Shortly after Sig was conceived, Cosmin was bitten by a vampire on an expedition in the Black Forest. He tried to return to family life, but his children and wife were always in danger of his hunger. He returned to the Germany and started a new life with a circle of vampires and half-breeds, but wrote to his children often.

Grimhilt packed up her children and moved to America, too much stigma surrounding her husband's change and the shame emanating from her family at being a single mother. She was always an industrious and capable woman and quickly found a job as a wizarding robe seamstress; it was something she could do from home while raising her children. It also necessitated that her house be connected to the floo network. Cosmin helped support his wife and children and kept them as close as he could to the lush lifestyle they were accustomed to in Germany.

Sig grew up in a single parent household, too young to remember his father much. His mother told him fantastic stories of his father the adventurer, and his letters tended to concur. It was why Grimhilt fell for him in the first place.

He spent much of his time playing games with Dieter and Viorica, learning a bit of hearth craft and listening to his mother's tales of their culture and family back home.

Being from old wizarding stock, Grimhilt raised her children with the expectation that they would receive invitations to both European and American wizarding schools. Dieter had his choice between Big Sky and Durmstrang; to him the choice was made before any invitations arrived. Viorica was offered the same choice, along with Dresden (given that her father's reputation was beginning to spread and Dresden was also gaining a reputation as a lay-low school for children of famous parents); she chose Big Sky to stay close to her mother.

Sighard was not in Germany long enough to warrant an invitation from Durmstrang and so had only Big Sky and Dresden to choose from. Having his father's independent spirit he opted for Dresden. His mother insisted that he use her maiden name to register, urging her son to disassociate himself from Valemont if only to protect him from the rumors that had circled him all his life.

Around his third year Sighard decided he wouldn't mind the notoriety of being the son of a vampire and he insisted on going by his proper name of Valemont. It had consequences he didn't understand. Some of his dearest friends would no longer talk to him because their parents were afraid, or worse, they were afraid all on their own. Rumors circulated that Sighard was actually a half-vampire, that his dad had been turned before his conception. He didn't have much evidence to deny this claim because so little is actually known about vampires.

He spent most of his fourth year alone and his fifth year rebuilding some friendships. He didn't bother switching his name back to Loveland, not considering that everyone in the school knows now, but he's made up his mind to go by Loveland after graduation.

Any notable differences from the pb? Marina stands at 5'3". She is athletically built and is in very good physical shape. Being light she does a lot of flying on the cheerleading squad.

She has a very expressive face; her moods are easily visible unless she opts to disguise them. She uses this to her advantage in drama club, but sometimes she's over-expresisve.

She dyes her long, curly hair wild and ridiculous colors. She's currently in a red on top, purple on bottom phase. It's mostly about self-expression and pushing boundaries. She has to condition her hair a lot from all the damage she does to it.

Kirsty took her and Max in after the accident that killed their parents three years ago. Kirsty was quite a bit younger than her sister (9 years younger) and was only 26 when she was granted legal custody.

Any other relations we should know about: She has a great Aunt Charlotte Barry who has been helping to fund her educational costs to attend Dresden, but Charlotte was too old and set in her ways to take in two children, which is why they ended up with Kirsty.
Significant Others: Not sure, but I'm pretty sure she's having secret sex with someone.
Friends: She's one of the theatre crowd and she's also a cheerleader. Marina is essentially friends with everyone.
Enemies: N/A at the moment.

Personality
Likes: Pop rocks, rainbows, Saturday morning cartoons, playing board games with friends, instrumental music (techno, classical, ambient, jazz), Slings & Arrows, tv shows that don't make much sense (she adores later seasons of Space Ghost and all of The Mighty Boosh, Bath and Body Works.
Dislikes: Dishonesty, rap music, pranks, violence, Lifetime movies, the word "cunt," fancy cheeses (especially blue ones).
Quirks:
- Marina took gymnastics classes when she was very little. She's good enough to be ranked, but she won't leave school to train intensively.
- She struggles with lying to her brother, but she can do it in a pinch.
- She loves the Old Spice "man on a horse" commercials and has actually written fanfiction about it.
- Carries a rosary in her backpack, though she doesn't often pray on it. Having it with her is a bit of a reassurance that someone out there is looking out for her.
- She's a horrible cook.
- She used to be terrified of the dark and slept with a nightlight for many years. She would also sleep with a flashlight under her pillow. She can't really explain how the fear went away, but since her parents' deaths she's not afraid of the dark anymore.

Weaknesses: Secretive, but not very good at keeping other's secrets. Very gossipy. Headstrong (ends up being a weakness more than a strength).

Detailed personality:
Marina has always been willing to strike out on her own. She's brave, happy to forge ahead in those situations where others could not. She's smart, but so headstrong that she often turns away from good reason to forge ahead.

She loves talking and sharing stories, even stories that aren't hers to share. She gets herself in a lot of trouble by revealing secrets. She's very expressive when speaking, both in her tone of voice and facial expressions. She talks with her hands too.

She is occasionally given to fits of histrionics, big, public, emotional outbursts. Most of the time she's faking it, whether for attention or to see how people would react even she isn't sure. She is not easy to anger, but when someone has done it they had better be prepared for the holy wrath of Saint Marina. She has a temper that is long fused but explosive.

Personal History:
Marina had a happy childhood. Growing up with her family as a loving, close-knit group. She took an interest in gymnastics early and having her childhood free from conventional school she trained competitively until it was time to go to Blue Ridge.

Three years ago Marina and Max were in a tragic car accident with their parents. The front end of the car was crushed, killing their parents as the car set ablaze. Marina managed to get out of her seatbelt and help Max to climb from the car before they were burned alive. Max sustained injuries that makes him dependent on a wheelchair. Marina's gymnastics career was never quite the same after and she lost her national ranking; her aunt is convinced that it's psychosomatic given how good she is when cheerleading.

Aunt Kirsty took the children in, moving them into her home in a rural farmhouse in eastern NY. It took Marina a long time to adjust, removed from her friends and support system besides Max and her aunt. Slowly, she turned her grief into art, focusing her energy on creative endeavors. She also turned to religion, having a particular fascination with the Virgin Mary in Catholicism and other sects that focused on the feminine side of worship.

The children switched schools and Marina found that Dresden was a very good place to deal with her grief, though she lost touch with most of her friends from BR. It was easier for Max given that he's younger.

She's become a bit more secretive in the past year. She still tells Max plenty of things, but nothing about her emerging sexuality or her dabbling with drugs. She isn't sure how he'd feel about either of those things and she doesn't want to risk alienating him.

Her father groomed her from an early age to take up the family mantle as a politician, but as soon as Royal was born he began doting on the boy instead. Left in the lurch, Carly generally dislikes her brother and doesn't trust her father to have her best interests at heart.

She likes Marguerite enough when she's not trying to be her shadow.

Carly protects her mother's secrets, especially her alcoholism. Of all the people in her family she trusts her mother the most (though she should probably trust her the least).

Familiar: She doesn't have a very good hand with animals and thereby doesn't have a familiar.
Any other relations we should know about: Grandfather Cecil Travers is retired politician, now a man of leisure, his wife Marguerite Travers was a housewife (and died four years ago). Grandfather Carl Thompson Margulies was a business magnate (died before Carly was born), his wife Jennifer Margulies was an uptight socialite, but after her husband's death she had something of a personal renaissance and reinvented her life.

Carly's relationship with her grandfather Cecil is a complicated one. She constantly wants to please him but can never measure up, simply because she's a girl. He thinks it's a shame in the most patronizing of ways. She rages at how he treats her because of the bits she was born with.

She thinks her grandmother Margulies is off the rails compared to the rest of her family who have all the political politesse and know the social etiquette from start to finish. She can't quite believe it when her mother tells her stories of how her grandmother used to be.

Significant Others: Dated Hawthorne Nikitin in their sophomore year. When he moved on she didn't and she's been relatively obsessed with him ever since.
Friends: Hard to come by in her line of business. Mostly she has people she gossips about and then the handful of people that she doesn't; they're about as close as she gets to having friends.
Enemies: Pretty much any girl that Hawthorne takes an interest in. She makes a good share of enemies with her vicious gossip.

Personality
Likes: Rock and hip hop music. Terrible reality tv.
Dislikes: Romcoms, useless decorative items that have no function, girls who take a shine to her Thorny.
Quirks: -Gets terrified by horror movies.
-She's incredibly flexible.
Secrets: She doesn't have an truly devastating secrets, but she tends to act as though she does.
Strengths: Strong willed. Capable.

Detailed personality: Gossip monger extraordinaire; she doesn't bother with that tiddly shit Shell Horton published in the DA Post. She's hard to know, rather harsh. She keeps her own secrets, but drops others like its no one's business. It's a wonder anyone bothers to put any amount of trust in her. She can't really articulate why she does what she does. Maybe it's a safety mechanism, maybe it's just how she's learned to function when surrounded by other people. She's not quite self-aware enough to confront it.

She's not entirely unknowable, but she doesn't make herself very vulnerable. She takes a long time to truly trust anyone.

She's an achiever, desperate to please her family even though they've dropped her in favor of Royal.

She can be fun and lying just underneath the bitchy surface is a bubbly, vivacious girl who enjoys a good party with good people.

Personal History: The Travers side of her family has a storied political legacy. Her grandfather Cecil Travers was a high ranking official of LAW before his retirement. He is constantly saying that Carly should have been born a boy and then she'd be truly magnificent.

She was groomed to be the next politician among the Travers line, but then Royal was born and when he reached the appropriate age for the typical training he started to show some talent. Carly was left by the wayside.

She started getting a bit vindictive, particularly to her younger siblings. This spread into school and her interactions with other children. Pretty soon she was the gossip queen and no one would cross her for fear they'd end up on her list.

In her sophomore year she started dating Hawthorne Nikitin. He seemed like a good idea at the time, fun and weird, someone who would probably horrify her parents. She didn't expect that she'd fall ridiculously in love with him. She didn't think he'd break up with her for some other girl, even though that was MO. She didn't expect the heartbreak, the seemingly unending depression that almost held her back a year in her studies.

Eventually she recovered from the wounds, but she never quite got over Hawthorne. She has jealous fits over any of his current/former girlfriends and is particularly vicious about them in her gossip.

She managed to pick her grades back up and started applying to magical universities. She was accepted to several of the schools she applied to, one of them in Virginia; the same school her father attended. But she wanted to stay at Dresden because of Hawthorne. If her father knew the real reason she stayed he'd pull her from school and put her on a bus to Virginia.

Name: Prudence Louise Stark. She's been known as Pepper since her fourth year at Dresden. Her father calls her Pru. Her mother calls her Prudence.
Residence/Hometown: She grew up in Lake George. She presently lives just off St. George's Way in a tree house set back in the woods. The sleeping area is raised above the small kitchen/living area. Just to the side of this is Pepper's pride and joy: her home library; it's larger than the interior of her home could support and needed multiple charms to hold it in place.

Any notable differences from the pb? She doesn't have any tattoos. She doesn't have her ears gauged, but she knows a charm to make them look that way. It's a little trick for shock value when people wander into the shop expecting her father and find her instead.

Pepper shops out of one of those catalogues for saucy ladies who are perfectly happy to show off copious amounts of skin. She thinks a corset is suitable as a stand alone top.

School/Magic Stuff

Wand One: 12 inches. Yew wood. Phoenix Tail Feather. Springy. This is the wand gifted to her by her grandfather when she was three years old. It has been passed down to the first born child of the current wandmaker at Starks and was the first wand that the shop ever produced.
Wand Two: 9 inches. Poplar wood. Dual core of Griffin Feather and Mallowsweet. Sturdy. This is the wand her father crafted for her to use at school. It's a reliable wand and well suited to her personality. She continues to use this wand.
Wand Three: 10 inches. White Oak. Dragon Heartstring. Rigid. This is the first wand she made herself. She can't use it herself, but she can't bear to part with it yet. She hasn't found someone to resonate with it. Should she find someone she plans to make a gift of the wand.

Schedule: Took magical crafting as an elective three times in a row. She had a particular interest in literature. Divination was only a partial skill and she was removed from Mother Criss' classroom when she repeatedly failed to meet with the seer's approval. Took wandless for the thrill of it, but decided after the first semester that she'd much rather have the weight of a wand in her hand.

She has a close working relationship with her father, since she helps run his shop. She gets exasperated with him for some of his business practices, but he's too set in his ways to try and change him. She trusts her mother more than anyone else in the world. She was once very close to her brother, but they grew apart when she started school and they've been drifting further apart ever since.
Familiar: A Kneazle named Irene who likes to go to work with her.
Any other relations we should know about: She's Abernathy and Bernadine's second cousin (their father's first cousin on his mother's side). She's not terribly close with her aunt Lorraine's children (since they're all at least 9 years older than she is), but she makes an effort at family gatherings to say hello to everyone and check in on their lives. She also makes an offer to craft wands for which ever witch/wizard is up and coming in the family.

She's friends with Jools Le Gallo and Bobby Eisley (who graduated 2 years ahead and in the same year respectively).

Personality
Likes: A good rainstorm, cat naps with Irene, books (new, old, fiction, non-fiction), reading glasses (to wear and on other people), good conversation.
Dislikes: Distractions, obligations she didn't agree to, muggle shops (air conditioning is obnoxious and she hates the way muggle shops are laid out and the way shopkeepers treat her just on visual impression).
Quirks: - She see auras on people and wands; when they match (or are very similar) the wand and person are a good pairing. She hasn't been able to explain this properly to anyone (and Mother Criss largely discredited the idea as hogwash), but her record for making good pairings on the first or second try stands for itself.
- She uses this same talent to put wands together, especially with difficult cores which are prone to exploding. She allows the aura of the materials (which is faint before they're assembled) to guide her.
- Takes a mid-day siesta break from work.
- Tore her ACL in a skiing accident; needed surgery to graft a donor ligament and has two pins in her knee. She can tell when it's going to rain because her pins will ache. She has a scar, and a slight limp that gets worse when the weather is bad.
Secrets: Unknown at present.
Strengths: Very smart, hands on learner, loyal, protective.
Weaknesses: Struggles with book learning, sucker for a man in a suit, sometimes she's too curious, risk-taker.

Detailed personality: Like a cat in many ways. She's curious, silky, loves a good nap, adores being petted and preened, will let you know when she's not interested in having attention paid to her (which isn't very often), and has a way of moving about a room that can take a man by surprise.

She's a very intelligent woman who enjoys the pursuit of knowledge almost as much as the knowledge itself. She prefers her romantic interests to be intellectual; she finds brains far more sexy than outward appearances (though, hey, those don't hurt either).

She's a lusty girl and not afraid to admit it. She considers herself pansexual; mostly she doesn't let gender identity or the physical sex of a person get in the way of her dating choices. She's not ashamed to admit that she looks at porn and she whacks off just like everyone else (at least everyone else who is willing to admit it with her). Even still, she has high standards for romantic/sexual partners and won't fall into bed with just anyone.

She's relatively fearless and willing to try almost anything for the experience. Not an adrenaline junkie so much, but a very curious soul.

Personal History: Pepper grew up in the beauty of the Adirondacks and was nurtured happily as a part of nature by her mother, Persephone who didn't want her father, Lael sucking her into the family business so early that she felt obligated to it.

Her mother taught her a bit of hearth craft as she was growing up, mostly the sort of things they don't teach at school. She let her daughter spend most of her time outdoors and encouraged the intrepid and curious girl to explore her environment fully. Pepper didn't have many cousins her own age to play with, though she had a younger brother. The siblings were ridiculously close in their childhood as they had only each other to entertain themselves.

School changed her a bit. She opened up and jumped into the deep end of the social pool. She drifted a bit from her brother who wanted her to spend her whole vacation with him while she wanted to go visit her friends or have them over without her little brother pestering them.

Puberty gave both of her parents a head full of gray hairs. Pepper blossomed from a gawky preteen into a practical sex goddess. It didn't take her very long to figure out that she adored male attention and even less time to figure out how to get it. She started dressing scandalously (but still just within the dress code guidelines while in classes), breaking curfew, dating around. She was more of a tease in those days and though she gained a reputation once a boy took her out they learned that she was more interested in intellectual pursuits (which if they played into would lead to carnal pursuits, but young boys aren't often clever enough to figure that out).

After graduating from Dresden in 2002 she spent a year apprenticing with Pete Rosenthal on crafting wands before moving on to work in her father's shop. It was a mutual idea, something they had discussed frequently during the course of their studies together when she was student. They worked in the evenings outside of the scope of the academy, but when other teachers learned of Pete's apprentice they thought it would be an interesting experiment to try and began pulling together resources and plans for university house (which opened its doors officially in 2005).

She's been working with her father at their family owned business, Stark's Wands since 2003. He does most of the crafting; she's been relegated to making wands at her own whim and spends more time in the front of the shop pairing wands with users for which she has an unusual talent. Recently she began offering custom-made wands, something which her father has stopped doing; in this regard she's already assumed his responsibilities in their family business.

She knows her father wants her to take over the business eventually. She loves crafting and matching wands to their users, but she wonders if there isn't something else out there for her beyond what she's talented at.

Another production come and gone. I'm always sad when it's over.

And then I can't sleep until late. We're supposed to have our cast party in the theatre tomorrow afternoon. It's going to be pizza and soda on the stage, same as it is every year.

I'm already thinking of ideas for next year's productions, though I'm sure Brennan's already picked them out. Maybe I can talk her into a musical for the spring.

Any notable differences from the pb? She's willowy. She has a pretty fair complexion and burns easily when out in the sun. She stands at 5'7", but she has a bit more to grow.

She likes to dress in period clothing. Part of this stems from her re-enacting experience, some from her method of acting. Sometimes she'll update a piece by matching it with jeans or a modern blouse. She wears a cloak instead of a coat in the winter time.

Detailed personality: She's the quintessential theatre geek. She's given to histrionics and is very emotional. She insists that this helps her on the stage, but it's gotten her the reputation of a drama queen.

Being an only child, she assumed a large amount of responsibility at an early age. On the inverse her maturity fluctuates. At school she acts younger simply because she can. At home she's a grown up.

Personal History: Growing up an only child, Madelyn was treated like a miniature adult.

Her childhood was wildly fun, though devoid of other children. She was allowed free run of her house, being babysat by her maternal grandmother who lived with them in their home. Grandmother Miriam as she preferred to be called was a no nonsense sort of lady, but she had already raised her children and didn't intend to raise another. She let Madelyn do as she pleased, which was mostly to put on one woman shows in her playroom.

Many of her weekends were spent at magical re-enactments with her parents. Her mother was a magical historian and tended to bring her work home. Maddy developed a love for it early on. She also learned to fly on a broom from her father who was a quodpot enthusiast (though he only played on his school team and plays pick up games with the folks at work).

Her father was an alumni of Dresden and played Quodpot; as such he expected his daughter would as well. He also hoped his daughter would seek a career with the League of American Wizards; he worked with the NY branch office in the misuse of magic department.

She wasn't socialized with other children until attending Dresden. It was almost like culture shock. Maddy quickly adjusted, but her maturity remained in flux. At school she acted more her age, sometimes younger.

She blossomed on the stage; performing in the choir, dance and drama troupes became her central focus in school. She enjoyed her classes as well, but never so much as her work after school.
