Another important element of the program is parent involvement.

A volunteer sign-up sheet in the entrance way invites parents to get involved in the classroom experience.

"Parents are the child's first and best teacher," Bilbay said. "We encourage the parents that this is not just a drop-off place."

Activities in the classroom all focus on different areas of learning.

Children can develop social and emotional skills in the dramatic play area with dress-up games and babydolls; hone their gross motor skills on a mini playground area; and work on their fine motor UGG Classic Cardy Bootsskills with the sand and water table or with blocks and toy cars. In the quiet area, blankets are laid out for babies to have "tummy time" and practice sitting up.

Rocking chairs are in place for teachers to read stories and children also can pick out their own books and puzzles.

The old record was held by former Sehome runner Mason McHenry, who ran a 13:06.0 on Sept. 19, 2007, before heading to Arizona State.

Carlyle made his record run despite having his left shoe come untied again.

"I don't know what it is," Carlyle said. "For some reason it's the same leg. I even switched shoes, so I have noClassic UGG Cardy Boots idea what it is. It's like I've forgotten how to do something (I learned in second grade)."
