NAME Tabitha Emily Rivers.
AGE/BIRTHDAY 16 / April 16th, 1980 (Aries).
HOUSE/YEAR 12th / Slytherin.
SOCIAL STATUS The Riverses came into money about two generations ago, but for some reason they still have the mindset that they've suddenly just acquired wealth and that it will disappear any second. As such, they spend more money than they save and recent money troubles have made them a bit of a disgrace, but the traditional Rivers refusal to learn from one's mistakes means that it is likely these money troubles will continue. But they will live fabulously while they can!
A-LEVELS Film Studies, Business Studies, Media Studies, and French.

appearance

While Tabitha hopes to be described as 'breathtakingly gorgeous,' the best she can possibly hope for is 'cute' - if that. Truthfully, her looks aren't very remarkable in any way. She has dark brown hair that she wishes were blond, or at the very least a pleasing shade of auburn, and after cutting it just above her shoulders, she wishes it were longer or at the very least a cute pixie cut. Her secret passion for sweets means that losing the baby fat was never an option for Tabitha; while she certailny couldn't be considered fat, she does have a round face and curves that she really, really wishes to be rid of. At the very intimidating height of 5'3", Tabitha always wishes that she were taller, leading to many an incident involving too-tall heels and twisted ankles. She has a tendency to frown, glare, or look disgusted nearly all the time, but when she smiles she can be very cute.

Dress Style Tabitha's appearance is very important to her, because she likes to think of herself as a complete package - sparkling wit and stunning good looks. There is a fine line between knowing how to dress oneself and piling on designer clothing simply because one can, and Tabitha toes that line too much for her own good. Without the help of her more fashion-conscious friends, she would most certainly be a wreck - Tabitha buys and wears clothes because she can, without any thought to whether or not they look good on her. Her style of dress is very practical, though, with little accessories to speak of.

personality

Tabitha isn't naturally good at anything - she has to work extra hard to keep her grades up and wake up incredibly early to do her make up and straighten her hair so that she doesn't look too awful, so she surrounds herself with ugly people and things in order to boost her self-esteem. Unlike a few of the other girls in the Slytherin Circle, Tabitha doesn't make it a point to hang out with only them. Of course, they're her best, best friends, but she's not above gracing a few Hufflepuffs with her presence if it means that everyone will be looking at her as a paragon of intelligence and beauty instead of at them. She likes to think that she's very personable and friendly, but her tendency to get easily bored combined with her complete dissatisfaction with everything has made her rather bitchy and opportunistic. She picks up friends and drops them at will, partially because she's afraid that one day they'll realise that she might just be using them. She also often finds herself in fierce competition with her friends, though she'd never tell them as much. She can't let all of her fake friends be better than her, can she?

As hard as she tries to be dainty and feminine, she has a rather aggressive nature that rears its head more often than she would like it to. Give her even the smallest amount of power and she'll go mad; having people under her thumb is one of her greatest secret desires. However, Tabitha stays far, far away from signing up for any positions of leadership - she does have an image to protect, and she tends to get rather ugly when put in charge, barking out orders and almost literally whipping people into shape. That is Tabitha's highest priority in life - protecting her supposed image of being the only sweet and friendly Slytherin girl there is. Unfortunately, Tabitha is anything but sweet and friendly, and her act is ridiculously transparent - niceties make her grit her teeth, and any compliments from her come out sounding cheesy and fake. She can't stand it when people insult her, so her natural instinct is to immediately lash back at them with some dig at his or her weight or social status. Her wit isn't biting but it's certainly there; she just never feels like racking her brain for some clever insult because she doesn't want to waste them on someone who doesn't mean anything. She's a profuse apologiser - any rude thing she says to someone she's trying to be friends with will be followed with one of the most annoying apologies known to man.

Since making a boatload of friends and being wildly popular while still keeping some of her Slytherin dignity has never seemed to work out quite well for Tabitha, she prides herself on having top-notch marks and being, well, a bit of a nerd. She does try very hard to keep herself from falling into the role of 'the smart one,' even though she does have to smile smugly when her friends come to her for help in various subjects. There are a lot of classes that she actually enjoys, and she'll spend hours working on a paper so that it's just right - even then, she's never very happy with the finished results, but she is pleased with the results. However, she's the kind who studies for the test - once exams are over, Tabitha forgets everything she's learned. She sees knowledge as a means to an end rather than an end. Her inability to apply anything she's learned to real life applies in other situations, as well. She's eternally doomed to repeat her mistakes because she refuses to learn from them, and if anyone calls her out on this, she'll probably call them fat and move on with her life. In fact, she hates it when anyone calls her out on anything, as she'd much rather live in her world where everything she does isn't hypocritcal.

If there is one thing that Tabitha isn't, it's satisfied. She's never happy with anything the first time around; even less so the second time around. She'll paint her room green only to decide ten minutes after that green doesn't suit at all, and she'll spend another age and a half trying to decide on a new colour. She's like a diva sans the delusions of grandeur and the desire for fame - Tabitha knows she'll never be very famous or very important, but she'll be damned if she can't have everything just the way that she wants it. She takes ages on deciding what she wants - to eat, to wear, to listen to, to watch, to do in general. She's an early riser not because it's natural, but because she knows it will take her at least forty-five minutes to decide on what hair accessory she'll wear that day. It's a stupid, annoying habit and Tabitha knows it, but she claims it's not her fault that she wants everything around her to be perfect. It's just the way things are.

DEFINING CHARACTERISTICS

Tabitha often alternates between extreme House pride and extreme House loathing - while she loves being a Slytherin (not only do they have the cutest boys, and not only is green a great colour, but they've also go such an incredibly legacy), she knows that it's getting in the way of her making self esteem-boosting friends. She tries way too hard to separate herself from the Slytherin Stereotype while playing into it quite a bit - she's catty, opportunistic, and singularly focused on her goals in a costs-be-damned sort of way. However, she does have to work for a lot. The only thing that comes natural to her is dissatisfaction, and if that's a life skill than Tabitha will run through the halls of Hogwarts College naked, free of charge.

LIKES

1 Clothing. Tabitha truly loves clothing - ugly clothes, baggy clothes, colourful clothes, shiny clothes, etc. She likes owning it more than wearing it (most of the more colourful things she wouldn't be caught dead wearing, anyway), because how much fun is it to say 'I've got seven closets just filled with dresses!' She's a compulsive hoarder of any and all articles of clothing, even though she only wears about an eighth of the things that she does own.
2 Movies. Much like with her clothing, Tabitha will watch a movie even if it's the worst piece of cinematic trash ever. This doesn't say much about her taste for the finer things in life, which she swears is in there somewhere.
3 Classic novels. And here we've found Tabitha's taste for the finer things! She gets very caught up in the books she reads, and classic stories of romance and women with indomitable wills are her favourite.
4 Vegetables. A rather sensitive stomach has led Tabitha to embrace vegetarianism, and she's totally convinced that it is by far more chic than eating meat will ever be.
5 Winning. It seems rather obvious, but winning is certainly in Tabitha's list of Top Five Favourite Things.
Other Likes Breakfast At Tiffany's, bright lipsticks, soap operas, alcohol (shh!)

DISLIKES

1 Hypocrites. Of course, this is rather hypocritical of her to say so, but Tabitha just hates it when people say one thing and do another. It's so disgusting.
2 Messy things. It's only natural - Tabitha spends hours cleaning her own room to make sure that everything is neat and that the way things are placed is to her satisfaction.
3 Overly flirtatious boys. This isn't to say that she doesn't like it when the boys pay attention to her, but she hates it when they make a big show of it or are overly aggressive. They're certainly pursuing the wrong girl if they want someone who's going to fall for a few choice words, because Tabitha will most likely laugh in their face.
4 Crying. Though she does it more often than she'd like to admit, Tabitha can't stand it when other people cry. It's all right for her to go around crying at random, but when other people do it? No way. They need to learn how to take it like a man.
5 Unfriendly people. Since she's always going out of her way to befriend the less fortunate - that is, those who are ugly or stupid or something equally undesirable - she thinks that the least they could do was accept her friendship. Never mind that she's doing it for personal gain! Those people should be glad that someone actually takes the time to notice their existence!

INSIDE SCOOP

1 Despite her strict vegetarianism, Tabitha has had a lifelong love affair with sweets, most notably chocolates. She likes to promote an image of herself that is healthy, fit, and very into leafy green vegetables, so Tabitha can usually be found stuffing chocolates into her mouth in the middle of the night, behind closed doors.
2 Tabitha has never been able to keep any pets without them dying a short time after they're bought.
3 When she was twelve, her brother Thompson told her that she was fat, so she threw a glass at his face. This was probably not the wisest of decisions, and Thompson had to get sixteen stitches under his eye because of it. Tabitha never mentions this particularly violent episode to anyone because it really isn't ladylike at all.
4 Tabitha claims to stay away from most sports because of mysterious medical problems, but it's really because she's totally and completely uncoordinated when it comes to anything involving running and balls.

social

Best Friends Pansy Parkinson, Daphne Greengrass, Tracey Davis, and Millicent Bulstrode. They travel in a pack, you see.
Enemies Girls as sweet as Tabitha don't have enemies! No, just kidding. Tabitha doesn't so much have enemies as she does have people that she dislikes a lot. Most of these people are boys: Harold Dingle and Philip Pontner being at the top of the list, though she also really can't stand Morag MacDougal or Lavender Brown.
Significant Other There is a weird, incredibly dysfunctional relationship with Nikolas Vaisey. Don't ask.
Crush See above?
Past Relationships None to speak of. Tabitha is saving herself for someone special (which really means someone who can put up with her) so she hasn't bothered to spend much time worrying about boys. Until now, of course, but whatever.
Turn-Ons Intelligence, straightforwardness, taller than she is, dark hair, strong hands, the ability to carry on a conversation not related to: sex, her boobs, or her legs, cleverness, a sense of humour, possibly a Knight in Shining Armour
Turn-Offs Stupidity, rudeness, crude habits, unfortunate perversions, the overly flirtatious, dominance, hypocrites, freaks, geeks, losers, Vincent Crabbe (sorry, Daphne!)

history

FAMILY
Richard Rivers The quintessential neglectful father, Richard has spent his parenting years either ignoring his children or showing his children with presents in order to make up for the fact that he's ignored them. He has no idea what goes on in his children's lives, but he certainly puts up a good front of pretending to. He's also woefully absent-minded in general, and forgets everything from birthdays to wear he's just hung up his tie.

Darla Rivers Everything about Darla is fabulous, fabulous, fabulous. She must have the most expensive version of everything, and she spends more than she saves, causing much of the Rivers' troubles with money. She adores delightful presents for her darlings, and when you get down to it, she can be quite a bitch if need be. But never to her precious children, of course! Darla plans on winning Mother of the Year.

Thompson Rivers He can basically be described as a moody, whiny bitch. When one first gets to know him he is charming, but they will soon see that beneath the charming exterior lies an emotional young man who is prone to chain-smoking, carrying around a notebook of poetry, and commenting on the utter worthlessness of life. He also happens to be rather ruthless, though, and is currently a university student who should do well for himself in the cutthroat world of business. His relationship with Tabitha is something of a love-hate relationship: sometimes they love each other, most of the time they hate each other.

Richard and Darla Rivers weren't exactly the best parents around. Two somewhat wealthy people who met at Hogwarts College, they envisioned their lives being filled with parties, trips abroad, and general luxury and opulence. Unfortunately, they were wrong - there was some actual work involved in living the way they did, though their lavish spending (often of money they don't even really have) does nothing to indicate that. Their firstborn son, Thompson, got everything he asked for and then some, and they didn't hesitate to do exactly the same for their next child, Tabitha. Of course, three years later when Tabitha was born, they could no longer afford their nanny and they had taken to the habit of spending money that they didn't have - something that Richard and Darla weren't quite proud of. They decided to completely ignore this minor problem in their lives and continue with business as usual.

Thompson and Tabitha were forced to spend an unnatural amount of time together from the start. At social functions they were presented as a set; when the family went on ridiculous holidays, they were forced to stick together while their parents did whatever they did when they weren't with their children. Rather than this leading to some impenetrable bond, Tabitha now cannot stand her brother, at all. She thinks he's a pathetic excuse for a human being and that he is completely and utterly not worth her time. She feels all of this in the most loving way possible, of course - despite the fact that she often claims to hate him, she still misses him and wishes he'd talk to her more than on birthdays and at Christmas.

Over the years, Richard and Darla have tried their best to ensure that their children know nothing of their money troubles. The quality of things that they own only continues to increase, and Tabitha has absolutely no idea that she isn't as wealthy as she thinks she is. She and Thompson received the best sort of education before Hogwarts, having private tutors (ones that mysteriously disappeared whenever Richard could no longer pay them) and plenty of trips abroad.

Tabitha grew increasingly more annoying when Thompson left for Hogwarts. She lived under the impression that she was the perfect angel of a child, when in reality she was a bit of a spoiled brat. Everything had to go exactly her way or she would get very, very upset. Not only that, but she also believed that she was the smartest thing ever - a child prodigy, even. She only learned to tone it down when she reached Hogwarts and learned that not only wasn't the the prettiest princess in all the land, but she was also really not as important as she might have liked to think. This was a bit of an embarrassing realization, so for her first year at Hogwarts, Tabitha stuck to the circle of Slytherin girls that she lived with. It was only after her first year that Tabitha began to branch out and secretly try to forge alliances with girls in other Houses. Of course, her rather duplicitous nature was always apparent from the very start, but she tried anyway. Other than that, Tabitha's time at Hogwarts has been woefully uneventful. She expects to continue getting excellent marks and making excellent friends.
