The Swan Kingdom: prologue [Apr. 25th, 2007|10:00 am]
Reviewing: “The Swan Kingdom” by Zoe Marriott
Chapters: Prologue.
Rating: Not half bad.

‘Alex and the Enaid’… sounds like an Enid Blyton book )

For all my expectations, that was a pretty good prologue: it was short and concise, actually relevant to the story (something a lot of fantasy prologues could learn from), and introduced some ideas – such as this “we are the land’s heart” thing – that I’d like to know more about. As for the downsides… well, there’s a whole book over which they can improve. A full novel will offer more space for Marriott to stretch her emotional and characterization wings than will a cramped prologue.
