Okay, so Niagara Falls is the most awesome place in the UNIVERSE.
And the Canadian side is clearly better than the American one, because it has the Horseshoe Falls and the manmade caves behind them where you can walk around with thousands of tonnes of water pounding just above your head, and then go to a couple of places where the tunnel just falls away (well, there's a safey rail, but still) and you can watch the white water bucketing past from the inside of the waterfall--
--and y'know, I think there actually might not be words for how utterly fucking awesome it is.
I was kind of jealous of the American side's open-air decking walk thingy that was so close to the water it may as well have been under it, and that looked like it was one hasty step away from matchwood, but we had creepy creepy tunnels that were more condensation than concrete, and boats going right up to the damn Horseshoe Falls (and dude, believe me when I say the sheer volume of wind and spray off the thing is almost frightening :D), so we win. Yes, I know I'm not actually from Canada. But I'm visiting, so I'M ALLOWED TO PRETEND.
Oh oh oh, and there was a gorgeous butterfly conservatory as well, where the things kept landing on ![[info]](https://www.scribbld.com/img/userinfo.gif) lienne and me. We spent the longest time trying to work out why they apparently only had four legs. And this is the place where aplysia_06 PWNED AT PHOTOGRAPHY. (Somewhat unrelated note: I met some of their friends, and we made deadly garlic bread that wasn't so deadly, and EVERY ONE OF THEM IS MAD AWESOME. *capslocks for Canada*)
And then there was this huge... I dunno, casino district thing going on, with entire streets where the buildings looked like they'd been stolen from a theme park. Simulators and wax museums (we passed Rock Gods, which made Pyth very happy by advertising a new statue of Geddy Lee, and Movie Legends, with a slightly hilarious Jack Sparrow not-quite-anamatronic rotating slowly out the front) and children's indoor playgrounds. And haunted houses. Apparently Niagara has a hard-on for haunted houses. On one street, there were two huge ones set up next-door-but-one from each other. Also, there's a castrated CN tower sitting there being all not-quite-as-tall-as-Toronto's.
...speaking of which, we passed by the CN tower late at night on the drive back, and you don't even want to hear about the freaky special effects that were going on. It looked like a light-show version of the later stages of highly decorative syphilis. o_o
In summary: I LOVE THIS COUNTRY. |
