Spain!	[Jul. 6th, 2004\|07:35 pm]
I haven't written about Spain yet! Sporks self Well... Picture it: 24 hours on a stuffy coach, with a year 8 kicking the back of your chair and someone endlessly trying to sell you stuff you don't want for twice its value. Until we reached France. Night. Raining. Cold. Bliss. ^_^ Ohh, and service station with flushing toilets! Cloud Nine! Aanyways, then back on the coach (with, mercy of mercies, a DVD of Finding Nemo) till we reach Spain. Is it that hotel? Nope. How about that one? I want a window on the cliff face! Nope, further on. Several winding mountain paths and an evil half-hour tunnel later, we arrived at Hotel Monte Alba! It's actually a skiing resort, but it's open in summer too, and there are some spectacular views. First full day, we went on a walk through the mountains, took a wrong turn, walked several hundred miles uphill and arrived back half an hour late. 'Twas fantastic! Then lunch (and Eru do they do massive lunches over there), and back down the mountain and into town for ... White-water rafting!! Tres spiff! "My name is Pablo," says our rafting coach as we struggle vainly into our wetsuits. "If you cannot pronounce that, call me Paul." Okay, Pablo. He sat at the back and steered while we (six to a raft) rowed. If you only do one sport in your entire life, make it white-water rafting. It is amazing! It is exhilarating! We all fell (aka "were pushed by Pablo") out and Miss White nearly went down the rapids! Brr. I don't care how thick your skin is; never go swimming with bare arms/legs/anything in glacier runoff. Talk about frostbite. Then none of uss could get back in the raft! And there was Pablo, backflipping in and out like it was easy. -_- He eventually pulled us back in, though. Not till my fingers dropped off with frostbite, though. :D That was without doubt the best day of them all. ^_^ We also went shopping in Barcelona (not on the same day, you understand: we need our beauty sleep ^_^), where a guy in a shop on the beach front tried to sell me a sword. I was looking for one that resembled Sting... Me: Ooooh... O_O Guy: You want to buy? 130 Euros. But for you, merely 70! Me: Uh... Guy: You like swords? Genuine samurai! Me: Sorry, but (much as I would like a sharp pointy) I don't have 70 Euros. Guy: How much? How much d'you have? Me: Uh... ten Euros. Guy: ... Me: ... Guy: Put deposit, come back tomorrow! Unfortunately, that was our last day in Barcelona. Phooey. ^_^ On the upside, I did get 15 Euros off of a pair of sunglasses. And I managed to haggle 1 Euro 50 from this really sweet dragon statue! It is adorable! Apparently he looks evil, but he goes beautifully with this blue one I already have. I think I'll call one Sugar and the other Splice. <3 We also spent a day at the lake, canoeing and banana boating (or, IMHO, hotdog-boating) in which we all fell off. Every time. Repeatedly. Fortunately, this lake was not glacial run-off. ^_^ And Miss Ziebeck gave out prizes at the end of the week! I got one for disco queen. Go me! Then there were prizes for Lobster (most sunburned); Shortest Miniskirt; Disco King and Taking The Most Mickey Out Of Mr. Lynn For Eating Salami. A most excellent week. ^_^
