Reviews of some of the films and anime I've watched recently. Spoilers included.
:: Dan In The Real Life ::
Synopsis - Dan, an Agony Uncle columnist, stumbles on a special woman in a bookstore but later finds out she is dating her younger (and cuter) brother.
Otherwise known as There's nothing great about Marie. The female protagonist irritates me. Seriously, I fail to see what is so special about her and how the family gushes over her like she's some prized bull. Dan's daughters, sans the youngest, are one-dimensional characters. Typical prep girl and typical angst girl. Not worth any mention. Anyway, Marie looks and sounds like a phony. I did a mental cheer during the double date scene. Woot! The phony bitch shows her true colours when Dan went dancing with the hot plastic surgeon. She's a bloody coward as well, which she exhibited brilliantly by running away at the first sign of trouble and confrontation and left it all to Dan to sort it out.
The redeeming parts in the movie were the fun events and games that took place during the family get-together. It promotes family togetherness. I wish my extended family visits were that interesting.
Despite all his flaws, I think Dan is the most put-together and honest person in the entire family. The rest of them looks like they are out to persecute him.
:: Enchanted ::
Synopsis - A beautiful damsel living in a fairytale land of Andalusia meets a handsome and dashing Prince. They decided to get married and lived happily ever after but his evil stepmother has other sinister plans for them. To thwart their wedding, the evil queen sent the poor girl to another world where there are no happy endings.
Walt Disney + Kevin Lima = wonderful eye-candy. After all the 3-D animations that dominated the Disney screens in the recent years, it's a refreshing change to see some good old school art. I thought it would've been more unique if they had retained Giselle in her 2-D form in New York to give it a sort of Roger Rabbitnesque feel.
The soundtrack is excellent, there's no going wrong with Alan Menken.
:: Persona - Trinity Soul ::
Synopsis - Kids in Ayanagi these days are not interested in the usual vice. They're Shadow-stripping each other without paying heed to its consequences or after-effects. On the grim side, three brothers are caught up in the conspiracy of the "Persona" along with a string of gruesome and inexplicable events.
I'm sticking with this one for a while. It looks pretty decent and the storyline is quite intriguing. But really, I will never tire of listening to Takehito Koyasu.
:: Hatenkou Yuugi ::
Synopsis - A young girl, Rahzel is sent out of her house quite suddenly by her father with instructions to "see the world". Her exciting journey begins when she met a young thief, Alzeid. Together with her cheeky companion, Baroqueheat, they seek out their purposes.
First of, why would someone call himself Baroqueheat? Storyline is choppy and not well-presented. I'm up to ep. 04 and there's no mention how Baroqueheat meet our lovely albeit ditzy heroine. Ditching this series.
