Lucas Redcliff was, once, a Victorian gentleman of good breeding, leading a perfectly ordinary life. From a moderately wealthy family, and suitably engaged to a young lady of social standing despite his somewhat rakish charms, Lucas enjoyed the gentleman's clubs and related establishments as an eligible bachelor, gambling idly, drinking to excess and flirting wildly. On his way home from one of these excursions, he ran into Norton Peregrine, who attacked him in an alley, turning him vampire, bloodthirsty and cold, and revealing to him the existence of the Island. For some time, he immersed himself in the depraved nightlife of the English underworld but later tired of London, and left shortly after the Whitechapel murders. The fact that Jack the Ripper was never heard of again may or may not be related to this departure. He has been at the Island ever since.

Lucas harnessed his seductive vampire powers quite early on, becoming quite the danger to the young unmarried at the time. Over time, he has come to enjoy the seduction more than the resulting bloodshed or sex that would follow and would just as soon have you charmed with him for the sake of entertainment. This might make him even more dangerous.
