basics
NAME Seamus Liam Finnigan.
AGE/BIRTHDATE 17 / 3 November 1979.
HOUSE/YEAR Gryffindor / Seventh.

BLOOD STATUS Halfblood. As he's fond of saying - his mam's a witch, dad's a Muggle.
LOCATION Galway, capital of Galway County located on the west coast of Ireland. He lives with his mother.
SEXUAL ORIENTATION Bisexual. But kind of on the DL. Meaning he hasn't bothered to tell anyone but he hasn't not bothered to tell anyone, either. He'll just settle for making very homoerotic comments and seeing if anyone gets the hint.

political affiliation
Dumbledore's Army. But it took him a while to get there - his mother's influence combined with his suspicion and, okay, slight jealousy towards Harry Potter made sure of that. He'd never believed any of the things people said about blood purity, anyway, but his mother tops the list of influential people in his life - it was only natural that he'd listen to her before even listening to any of his friends on matters of allegiance.

appearance
As much as he hates the comparison, even he would have to agree that he's almost a spitting image of his father - both have the sandy blond hair and green eyes that are typical of the Finnigan family, though Seamus has inherited his mother's smile (whether or not this is a good thing is yet to be seen - his father often claims it was her smile that led him to blinded him to her Satanic black magic and other witchly habits). Unlike his father, however, he keeps his hair shaggy and the smile permanently on his face - unless he happens to be yelling at someone. He's fairly average in all respects - he stands at 5'10", and he's neither skinny nor fat (those days are long gone, thank you). His metabolism is good enough that he doesn't need much exercise to stay in shape, but a certain vanity keeps him from letting himself go entirely.

Seamus likes to pretend that he doesn't put a lot of effort into his appearance, when in fact he spends quite a good bit of time making sure that he looks like he's just rolled out of bed. He embodies the look of the 'carelessly disheveled,' but anyone who decides to have a closer look could easily tell that he cares more than he lets on. However, Seamus is still all about the jeans and tee-shirts (none of those sweaters and khakis for him, thanks!), and he's grateful that his mother allows him to keep some Muggle influences in his life, especially when it comes to fashion.

PB Charlie Hunnam.

personality
Seamus has one life rule - work hard, party harder - and it's quite obvious that he's chosen this as his life's philosophy. He literally throws himself into everything he does, often making it seem as though he's rocketing through life at lightning speed. (Which wouldn't be far from the truth, actually.) Any and all requests to 'Slow down!' will go unheeded, as he'd love to think that his energy is boundless and that he is invincible. No one's really quite sure where this idea of immortality sprung from, but it certainly hasn't done Seamus any favors. He's often among the first to suggest some dangerous activity - in fact, his bravery (or foolishness) lies more in the area of stripping down naked and charging through the castle on a dare than sticking up for some poor firstie who's being harassed in the halls. But when it comes to doing the Right Thing, one can almost always count on Seamus to do it in the end, even if he doesn't seem very willing to at first.

Seamus isn't necessarily narrow-minded - it's just that his world is a tiny one, only involving himself and the people he cares about most. And it's not that anyone outside this circle is subject to an overbearing amount of suspicion, either - Seamus would much rather be on everyone's good side, but he long ago accepted the fact that not everyone was going to like him, so he shouldn't go out of his way to make them like him or like everyone himself. He's never pretended that he was someone he wasn't, and he's very upfront about his opinions and his thoughts about other people. However, it's rare that he intentionally forgets to sugarcoat things - he's actually rather tactless, and is often the one to accidentally bring up the thing everyone's thinking, but no one wants to say.

Having fun is one thing that Seamus would like to think is his area of expertise. Schoolwork has its place, and Seamus knows that - but the only reason he works so hard at school is because he knows the benefits of a good party await him just around the corner. He's usually the first person that people come to if they're interested in having a good time. Those who are a bit on the calmer side - namely his best friend - would tell him that he has a tendency to overdo it, but Seamus doesn't quite care. Drinking, partying, excessive flirting - all of them are excellent ways of forgetting one's problems. He has truly mastered the art of escapism, which is a dangerous art to master. He sort of knows this, too, but will keep going for the sake of a good time. After all, it's all in good fun, right? He believes that he'll know when to stop himself if he ever gets in too deep, but with the looming threat of war he also knows that people need to have fun more than ever.

Seamus would love to blame his hotheaded nature on that quick Irish temper - but even he knows that isn't all there is to it. It doesn't take much to make Seamus angry, and when he's angry, oh - he is angry. He's prone to ranting for hours on end about the smallest of things, waving his hands around in the air and yelling just to make sure that everyone's heard his points loud and clear. He's also rather fond of dueling and physical violence, though he'll usually resort to physical violence if he doesn't think that a hex or curse will get his point across. He holds grudges and has no problem letting them simmer for years on end - it's safe to say that his little falling out with Harry in the beginning of their fifth year wasn't just because of all the suspicion being cast on him, but also because he'd been let onto the Quidditch team in their first year which Seamus thought was totally, completely, and wholly unfair.

THREE THINGS ACQUAINTANCES WOULD KNOW
1) Seamus has tried every year, without fail, to get onto the Gryffindor Quidditch team, and every year he falls just short of the cut. It's become something of a running joke within Gryffindor - a running joke that Seamus does not find amusing in the slightest.
2) If Seamus knows you, he will flirt with you. And the more uncomfortable a person is, the better!
3)

TWO THINGS CLOSE FRIENDS WOULD KNOW
1) He's actually very into music, and his good friends have often heard him talk about how if he weren't so into this whole Wizarding thing, he'd want to be a musician. Seamus often hums under his breath and when he's bored he'll even burst into song.
2) He's not as lazy as he seems. In fact, the Sorting Hat almost put him in Hufflepuff before Seamus begged it not to let him into a House with the word "Puff" in its title. He's incredibly diligent for someone so intent on having a good time, and he'll get very, very angry at the poor soul who dares interrupt him when he's trying to do schoolwork.

ONE DEEP, DARK SECRET
Seamus is almost one hundred percent positive that he's going to die young. It's part of the reason why he lives so dangerously now - might as well get your kicks in while you can, right? To him, it makes perfect sense - he's reckless, he's an idiot, and he doesn't know when to stop. It would be the fitting end to a crazy life for him to do the wrong thing in the wrong place at the wrong time, and end up dying for it, especially with the war coming closer and closer. Consequently, he has absolutely no real plans for his future, and he will probably have no idea what to do with himself if he makes it past the ripe old age of twenty-five.

history
MOTHER Eileen Flannery
FATHER Patrick Finnigan
SIBLINGS A bunch of stepsiblings that he would rather not acknowledge the presence of.

Eileen Flannery didn't mean to be an evil seductress, no matter what her former husband might say. But life was rather unexciting for a single woman fresh out of Hogwarts who lived in a dingy flat in Galway. The only way to make her life a bit more interesting was to head out to the local pubs and flirt with the men who hung out there. Even that got boring, until she met Patrick Finnigan. To say that it was love at first sight would be a bit of a lie - but Eileen had to admit that she was head over heels for him within two minutes of their conversation. Patrick had never met anyone like her before - she was funny, outgoing, and just a tiny bit overbearing, and she seemed to have this mysterious quality about her that a man like Patrick could appreciate. (Until he found out the truth behind that mysterious quality, of course.)

Eileen's parents are always telling Seamus that the marriage was too rushed, and it probably was. They were married only a year after they first met - they were both young and in love, and prone to making stupid decisions like that. Eileen had decided to wait until after the marriage to tell Patrick that she was a witch, but soon after the wedding she found out that she was pregnant, so of course she couldn't tell Patrick then. She'd just wait until after Seamus was born! But after Seamus was born, Eileen still hadn't broken the news to Patrick, fearing what he would do if he found out. Naturally, Patrick was suspicious - he knew there was something that his wife wasn't telling him, but he just couldn't figure out what. Sure, there were owls flying about the morning, and Eileen's parents were odd enough to make even the least perceptive of people think that something was up, but Patrick was quite sure it wasn't anything so odd.

It wasn't until Seamus received his Hogwarts letter that Eileen finally told Patrick, to disastrous results. It wouldn't be wrong to say that Seamus got his temper from his father - harsh words and heavy objects were thrown about at liberty, and Seamus had to spend the final two weeks of his summer before Hogwarts at his grandparents' home. He didn't know how to deal with the situation (he still doesn't), so he covered up the hurt with a joke - "A bit of a nasty shock for him when he found out!" 'A bit of a nasty shock' didn't even begin to cover it. By the time Seamus came back home for the winter holidays, his father was gone and it was just the two of them. Fortunately, this led to the budding of what Seamus jokingly refers to as "a beautiful relationship" between him and his mother.

Seamus's life was fairly boring - or about as boring as life can be when you're Harry Potter's roommate - until his mother announced that they were going to the Quidditch World Cup. It had only been Seamus's dream since he was a young boy, and now it was finally coming true! Of course he invited his best friend Dean to go with him, and Seamus is quick to label his summer at the Cup the happiest, best moment of his life. Until the Death Eaters came and instilled a fear in the heart of his mother that Seamus says ruined his life.

Indeed, Seamus expected the summer between his fourth and fifth year to be not necessarily great, but at least a welcome break from everything that was going on in the world. He knew that his mother was worried, of course - what mother wouldn't be? - but he hadn't expected to be put under house arrest literally the moment that he stepped into the door of his house upon returning home for the summer holidays. Eileen expressly told Seamus that he absolutely would not be returning to Hogwarts in the fall - the fight that came because of it resulted in one of the worst fights he's ever been in, with anyone, and Seamus sort of cringes every time he thinks about it, even if he does think he was completely justified in his anger. The two didn't speak to each for a month - this was probably easier since Seamus went off to live with his father and stepfamily for the better part of the summer. It was there that he realised that there was no real hope of him ever having a good relationship with his father, so he was all too relieved when his mother tearfully insisted that he return home. He did so on one condition - he had to go back to school for his fifth year.

This didn't stop Eileen from constantly reminding Seamus that Harry was lying and that Voldemort hadn't really returned - Seamus was so convinced of this by the time he returned to school that he couldn't help but explode at Harry on their first night back. It took a while, but eventually Seamus came around and joined the DA - more because Dean was already in it than anything else, but he quickly came to strongly align himself with the Light. Unfortunately, Eileen and Seamus's relationship has never returned to what it once was. She didn't want him to go back to Hogwarts for his sixth year, but he did; she doesn't want him to go back to Hogwarts for his seventh year, but he's going to anyway. Unfortunately, he's spent much of this past summer on lockdown.

</td>

quivive
