An inside source at Parliament has informed our staff that paperwork was filed just last week setting the naming of a new king into motion.<br /><br />Ginevra Graves has been serving as Interim King since the disappearance of Camden and Katrana Graves just over two years ago.<br /><br />Katrana Graves was the first Queen ever named to the throne. Camden was the first King to serve a term longer than ten years. The prophets stopped naming new kings after the appointment of Camden Graves and have repeatedly declined to comment on the reason.<br /><br />It is not yet known who the new King will be, or if he or she will have a Queen to share their appointment to the position. Given such short notice the official announcement from Parliament tomorrow afternoon could be poorly received.<br /><br />It is also unclear if this news has any bearing on the disappearance of the King and Queen. Archibald Murina of the LEOS stated "Any accusation of bewitchment must be taken seriously and scrutinized thoroughly. We could not allow this accusation to stand, especially because it concerned Prince Reed, the next in line as interim king."<br /><br />The LEOS performed a thorough search of Miss Marlowe's home and conducted an interview under truth serum. Both the search and the interview concluded absolutely that Miss Marlowe is not guilty of bewitchment.<br /><br />Prince Reed has been tested as well. He was not under any sort of spell at the time of the investigation. He refused to press charges stating that: "This whole thing is ridiculous. Miss Marlowe is innocent and Lily is an awful sister. As for Buttlescutt; I'd prefer it if that creature would just stay out of my life."<br /><br />What does this mean for Miss Buttlescutt and her informant Lily? She made no further comment as to whether foul play was suspected or if the couple would make a swift return. Little is known about Rathsas but that he was a student attending the academy to study abjuration for little more than a year. He was orphaned after the murder of his parents shortly before enrolling at Salem.<br /><br />At present the Leos have no leads, but Commissioner Burton Peeps has guaranteed that his best detectives are on the job. "When the safety of our children is at risk we take every precaution possible and follow every lead. We have Leos posted outside of every dorm on campus and can ensure that your children will be protected.<br /><br />"We believe this to be an isolated incident and want to stress that there is no cause for alarm," Peeps continued on to say.<br /><br />Marta Crane was the only member of the board of directors available for comment this morning. The Hotel Mosaique was engulfed in flames that responders seemed unable to quell.<br /><br />Early reports from the scene indicated that while the VEFS employed all the techniques at their disposal the flames were unresponsive to every method. There are indications that the fire may have been charmed, but it's entirely unclear why and to what purpose. Once the building was razed the flames were extinguished quickly. Other structures nearby were evacuated, but the fire did not spread outside of the Hotel.<br /><br />Reports of casualties have poured into the New Meridian Clinic all morning, as well as missing persons being reported to the LEOS headquarters. This fire swept through the bar quarter on Silk Road. Six buildings burned down completely, several more were damaged by water and smoke.<br /><br />Three fatalities were reported in the wake of the fire; four people are in critical condition at the New Meridian Clinic, while at least a dozen more were injured. It isn't clear yet when the fire started, but it was after business hours. Many people were trapped in the apartments situated above the bars and had to wait for rescue from the VEFS.<br /><br />It was only last year that many of these bars had to close temporarily after a rash of still unexplained illness swept the district. Miss Arnatuilë did not list the father of the baby.<br /><br />Emelie Waldemar recently gave birth to a son who she named Alexzander Albertine. His claimed father, Fernand Albertine disappeared earlier this year. Fernand was, interestingly enough, younger than the typical fertility age for mages. Miss Waldemar has not been pressed as to the true paternity of the child, but many doubt that it could be the upstanding young Albertine.<br /><br />And perhaps the most talked about birth of the year: Gideon and Isadore Morrow are proud to announce the birth of their daughter Katrana Morrow on April 1st of this year. The Golden Sun Dojo, a fixture in the mostly secretive and hidden Daemon culture of New Meridian, burned to the ground last night.<br /><br />The Volunteer Elemental Fire Squad was called to the scene by a neighboring business owner as soon as he spotted the blaze. The fire had raged out of control before their arrival; the VEFS representative has stated that they could only prevent the blaze from spreading at that point.<br /><br />An investigation was launched first thing this morning. There is no positive evidence as yet, but rumors are circulating about a darkly dressed figure seen on the premises before the fire started. It wasn't until later when her purse was found next to her brutally mutilated body that she could be identified as Miss Sundra Littleton of New Meridian. The LEOS have not released an official statement on the matter, but the severity of the attack and carnage left behind has been attributed to an unidentified werewolf.<br /><br />This, after recent legislative changes that allow werewolves to wear silver identification tags akin to those worn by shifters instead of being branded by unique marks. It's not clear about the far reaching consequences of this attack, but certain parliamentary officials have already made it clear that they intend to repeal the recent bill.<br /><br />"It's simply unacceptable that werewolves be allowed to attack innocent citizens and be practically unidentifiable," stated Gideon Morrow. "The previous provisions of the law made it easy to identify an attacker. Each werewolf had a unique mark on a visible part of their body and the marks could be recalled through eyewitness testimony. It is nearly impossible to positively identify an attacker wearing the same, tiny silver bracelet as every other werewolf. You can be assured that I will push for a repeal of this law and a return to our previous law. The LEOS branch of Parliament was flooded with letters from concerned citizens about the mysterious disappearances.<br /><br />Most shockingly, among those who have disappeared are the youngest prophet Edvin Sándor, King Thongchai Saenamuang, and his consort Evelyn Wilheard. Other high profile disappearances included the Albertine family, Madeline who had been working in Parliament, and her younger siblings Fernand and Lucie.<br /><br />The LEOS have released a statement on the matter. Burton Peeps, the LEOS Chief Commissioner announced: "the disappearances have our full attention and concern. However at this time we cannot state a conclusive cause. We have been contacted by the prophets who have assured us that this was an isolated incident and that there will be no further, related disappearances." Still, residents are not satisfied with the efforts of the LEOS and have lodged multiple complaints at their Parliamentary offices.<br /><br />Only one prophet was available to comment on the matter. Maris Solange was not willing to offer an explanation, but she repeated what Burton Peeps asserted. "This was a single incident and we are sad to have lost so many people. To our knowledge they cannot be recovered, but we are certain that no one else will disappear in the coming weeks."<br /><br />Miss Solange went on to say that an interim King was being placed until the prophets could convene to name a proper King to replace Saenamuang. It is clear from this action that the prophets did not see this mass event before hand.<br /><br />LEOS have been dispatched to various locations to prevent rioting and panic. A curfew has been instated for New Meridian beginning this evening at 10pm. All residents must be clear of the streets at 10pm every night until 6am. It is believed that she died of natural causes due to old age.<br /><br />The other prophets have confirmed that Agatha intended to step down from her position as prophet before her passing. It has not yet been revealed why she had intended to do so.<br /><br />Agatha was the oldest prophet, living or deceased. She was the last remaining prophet to have witnessed the forming of Parliament and the kingship at New Meridian.<br /><br />She has always been seen as the wisest prophet, even in her younger years. Many believe that her kindness and her light-handed approach to Fortuna magic made her the most favorable prophet as well.<br /><br />Agatha retreated to a more private life after the murder of her daughter Lilith and her son-in-law. Her daughter had been expecting a child when her life was cut short. The murder remains unsolved to this day.<br /><br />A mourning ceremony will take place this evening and tomorrow evening at Parliament in New Meridian. He fielded questions from a number of reporters and answered many concerns.<br /><br />Hamlin Graves used the conference to announce the fact that he is immortal and that he was the original Hamlin Graves. Graves was quick to explain that he chose to reverse his age and experience his childhood again. When asked why he would keep it a secret, Graves replied that he felt it was really no one else's business but his own.<br /><br />Graves also confirmed rumors that he was once secretly married to Ganymede Orion, that his father was not Bernard Graves but Kenichi Abe, the first king of Aylasia, and that he was involved in the accidental death of the prophet Gibous.<br /><br />When questioned further about his involvement in Gibous' death, Graves seemed to pull back into himself. He was not as forthcoming regarding this matter, which he was careful to explain had to do with his guilt over the young prophet's death. "It was a terrible thing," Graves said, "a thing which I will never be able to forgive myself for."<br /><br />Among all of these questions he was comforted by his wife Samra Chance, who was present for the proceedings. Other questions surfaced regarding the recent kidnapping of their adopted son Enki Chance, but all of these questions were politely and firmly deferred. "I called this conference to discuss my own past, not that of my son," Graves said on the record. "We are still processing the kidnapping ourselves and are not prepared to issue any official statement on what happened in Marik."<br /><br />The conference concluded shortly thereafter when it seemed that the questions were no longer pointed at Hamlin but at the kidnapping incident. Chance and Hamlin Graves traveled to Marik where Waldemar had been holding Enki Chance in his parents' vacation home in the mountains.<br /><br />After a standoff, the parents were reunited with their kidnapped son. However, Waldemar managed to elude the couple from apprehending him.<br /><br />The reasons for the kidnapping are yet to be disclosed and the family is requesting that their privacy in this matter be respected. Hamlin Graves is perhaps better known for taking up his grandfather's work as a liaison to Parliament. They are the first couple affected by the Blanket Plague to have a child after losing their magical abilities. It was uncertain whether or not their child would be affected as well, since the passing of magic from one generation to the next has not been well documented.<br /><br />Tristan was observed for several hours at the New Meridian Clinic where he was born to determine the extent to which his magic may have been affected. It was not announced until early this morning that the child did not have any magic.<br /><br />"It's simply unthinkable," said nurse Amy Cohan. "Can you even imagine growing up incapable of magic?"<br /><br />It is still unclear if the Blanket Plague has passed from this generation into the next, or if it is simply the nature of how magic is passed from parent to child. Most students were clever enough to avoid a confrontation, however one Miyako Miyazaki attempted to contain the situation. Master Kanaan cast an unknown spell on the boy whom promptly disappeared. His whereabouts are yet to be discovered. It wasn't until the Headmaster of the Upper School arrived that Master DeVries was properly subdued.<br /><br />News of the scene was repeated from gossip to gossip until it reached the board of trustees for Salem Academy when Master DeVries was "politely requested" to resign from his position. The board has yet to name an interim Vice Principle to the Lesser School, though with all the recent changes at Salem Academy perhaps it is too much to ask for a speedy replacement.<br /><br />Ms. Sasha Pertiogarv has resigned from her position as the cafeteria mistress, though it was not clear ifthis was in any way related to Master DeVries' breakdown.<br /><br />Master DeVries is reportedly resting in the countryside.
