(A ten year old Mera attempts to harness her newly discovered magical ability)

"I do so have magic powers!" Mera said defiantly, staring daggers at her older brother.

Alex Harper smirked at his little sister, having fun in getting a rise out of his little sister. "Sure you do, Fish Face," he said.

"I do! Daddy says so! And Grandpa Garth had me tested when he visited with Grandma Dolphin this weekend!"

"You sure it just wasn't to make sure that your gills weren't ingrown or something?" His smirk grew wider.

"Positive!" She looked at him with a self-assured look. "I've been reading some of Daddy's spell books. I could probably totally do a spell to turn the table over there purple, or something."

"Prove it, then."

Mera narrowed her eyes. "I will," she said, closing her eyes and beginning to mutter the spell that she had skimmed over in her father's spell book.

"MERA!"

Mera opened in her eyes mid-spell...and saw that her brother was covered from head to toe in purple polka dots.

Mera couldn't help it. She burst out laughing. "See?! See, I told you I could do magic."

"Fish-Face, I am going to kick your butt." Alex sprung at his sister, and Mera jumped back, knocking a lamp off of the table.

"What's going on in there?" Cerdian's voice came from down the hallway, and he walked into the living room. Seeing Alex, he suppressed a laugh, and shot a stern look at his youngest. "Starfish, did you do this."

Mera's eyes shifted from side to side. "Yes, Daddy," she said, looking at the ground.

"Were you reading my spell books after Grandpa Garth and I told you that you weren't ready yet?"

"Yes, Daddy."

Cerdian sighed, waving his hand and clearing Alex of the purple polka-dots covering his body. "Alex, I'd like to talk your sister in private please."

Alex shot Mera a final look before leaving the room. "Busted," he hissed at her under his breath.

Mera stuck her tongue out at Alex before turning to her father. "Am I in trouble?"

Cerdian sighed. "I'm not going to ground you, but I did tell you not to look in my spell books without me there to supervise you, Starfish."

"I know...I just wanted to prove to Alex that I could do magic. I didn't mean to turn him purple, honest!"

He laughed. "I know. But you still shouldn't have tried to do it without having any prior training. Something could have gone very wrong, and you or Alex could have been hurt. Do you understand that, Starfish?"

She nodded. "Yes, Daddy."

There was a long pause. "But you are going to start training me soon, right Daddy?"

He laughed. "We start your lessons tomorrow, Starfish."

"Promise."

"I promise."

She held out her pinkie. "Pinkie swear?"

Cerdian linked pinkies with her, smiling. "Pinkie swear."

Abilities: Being half Atlantean, Mera possesses increased strength in the water (currently three tons, but she's still growing), increased durability, and slightly enhanced reflexes. She has had some hand to hand training from her parents and extended family members, and while she's a decent shot with a bow, she doesn't have half the natural talent that her older siblings do.

Under her father's tutelage, Mera is currently studying Order magic. While she still has much to learn, Mera is currently versed in the following spells:

Communicate with sea life: While she can give complex commands or hold full conversations, Mera can ask sea creatures yes or no questions.

Water manipulation: While larger amounts of water can be more difficult for her to work with, using her magic, Mera can form basic whips, whirlpools, and moderate size waves (giant tidal waves are extremely taxing), to use in a fight. For this to work, of course, she must be either in or close to the water.

Mera also knows a spell that allows her to remain out of the water for extended periods of time.

Weaknesses and flaws: Being half Atlantean, Mera cannot be out of the water for long extended periods or she will suffer. Mera has a tendency to leap before she looks, and can both impulsive, and extremely stubborn at times, especially in matters where she Knows She Is Absolutely Right.

As she is still learning, Mera's spells require a great deal of concentration for her to cast them properly.

Mera has also inherited her mother's knack for getting into trouble.

Backstory: Mera is the only child born to Cerdian and Lian Harper, and the youngest of their three children. Mera had a happy childhood, surrounded her family, their friends, and their children, which Mera was one of the younger ones of. She was raised around her parents' friend's children, and most of them are like cousins to her, though Cait and Ty's two children are like older siblings than anything, Cait and Ty also being Mera's godparents.
