shortly after this

There was a sense of urgency left in Cygnus' last owl that sent Sirius' mind whirling to every hateful insult once spat at his Uncle during adolescence. And again, only moments before. "I didn't mean to," was no longer a valid excuse -- not when the safety of the only man Sirius truly cared for was now at risk, and those words would be left lingering between them.

With the note clutched tightly in hand, Sirius apparated from the small dingy flat he had recently taken refuge in to the hallway of his Uncle's estate. It was there he'd now take refuge; it was there Sirius would stand stubbornly, not for the family in which Cygnus represented but instead his own love, fighting tooth-and-nail for the life Cygnus deserved to continue living.

No words were made to announce his arrival, and no noise other than the brisk footsteps it took to carry him from where he had appeared to where he now stood; before the door, waiting.

(scribbled message on crumpled parchment)

Uncle,

It seems as though your influence has reached yet another member of what was once the majestic Black family. My brother's death lies entirely on you -- what had Regulus ever done to deserve such treatment? You were once our role model, but knowing how eager you were to treat me with such hatred.. I can only imagine what you uttered to him before demanding his leave of your precious home, ultimately leading to his demise. There are no words to describe how utterly disappointed I am to have ever claimed I loved you.

Sirius P. Black

nothing else matters

<sup>

Name: Sirius Black.
Birthday: 16 September, 1959.
Bloodline: Pureblood.
Affiliation: Blood traitor.

Loyal, a lot like the animagus form he takes on. Being raised as a Black, Sirius learned quickly the difference between true loyalty and loyalty due to expectations. As high up in society as his family was, Sirius realised everything he had been taught up until his entrance into Hogwarts was nothing but contradicting; Walburga and Orion, parents whom he never considered parents, fell in line because they had to. There was no loyalty in their actions, it was more to save their own skin. Sirius vowed that those he cared about would know how quickly he'd sacrifice everything, insisting that this Black would not conform because those around him thought it easier.

Stubborn, as any teenage boy would be. When Sirius made a choice, whether right or wrong, it was nearly impossible to convince him otherwise. Sirius strongly believed he knew better than most around him, and in so doing caused more mischief than needed. His failure to think things through always came back to bite him in one way or another.

Snarky, because being raised in a home where the parents were thoroughly rough with their teachings made him as defensive as possible. Sirius knew just how to get underneath his mother's skin, probing with all the wrong questions as if he got some sick enjoyment out of watching her attempting to clarify what it meant to be a true Black when she never was one to begin with. It was as if Sirius made it his duty in life to remind those around him they weren't quite as good as he was, despite refusing to take on the personality of those "cocky pureblood bastards" he referred to them as.

</sup>
