[Fic] Deathly Hallows Drabbles

Rocco Kirke
Setting: Hogwarts, just before The Battle.
Summary: Ravenclaw is awoken by a ruckus in the common room.

Raised voices roused Rocco from his light slumber. Clutching his wand tightly, he sat up in his bed and stared at the door leading out to the stairwell, which led to the common room. He couldn't tell what was being said, but he knew it was Professor McGonagall and at least one of the Carrows. What they could be possibly doing in the common room at this hour, he didn't know.

"What's that?" Eric sleepily murmured at Rocco's right without sitting up.

Rocco shook his head. "I haven't the foggiest," he quietly replied as he climbed out of bed and pushed his feet into a pair of slippers. He was wandering out to the stairs when a man's scream split through the night and had the rest of the boys clamoring out of their beds.

Wand raised, Rocco felt his pulse ramp up as he slowly peeked out of the room, not willing to dash out into whatever ruckus was being caused. He saw wand light coming from the other boys' rooms and felt his roommates bunching up behind him as he blocked the doorway.

Terry Boot was the first to appear on the stairs leading down from the seventh year's room, followed quickly by Goldstein and Corner. "You coming?" Boot said as he passed a baffled Rocco.

"Stay in your room," Goldstein quickly corrected. "All of you stay in your rooms!" he added in a raised whisper as more Ravenclaws began to trickle out onto the stairs.

Rocco followed that order for all of ten seconds before he saw the sleepily mussed heard of his cousin start down the stairs. "James!" Rocco hissed loudly as he sprung out behind the three older boys and was soon followed by the rest of his year-mates. "James don't you dare go out there!"

Startled and terrified voices floated up the stairwell as the younger children wandered out into the common room. Rocco gasped in utter astonishment when he entered the room to see that both Carrows had been attacked and Harry Potter was the likely culprit. No answers for the scene were given before the entirety of the Ravenclaw house was being ushered out of their tower and toward the Great Hall.

Rocco swallowed over his parched throat as he tried to remain calm while he located his sister Rosalie in the ensuing crash of students pouring out into the rest of the castle. He kept James in his sights and held his sister's hand as they rushed along the halls. Rocco knew he had to find the rest of his family once they reached the Great Hall. That was priority number one in the madness. This was a nightmare and he feared that things were only just getting started, which was confirmed when the Dark Lord's voice boomed through the castle and demanded that they produce Harry Potter or else.

"He'll kill us all," Rosalie said in a shaky voice as Rocco pulled her close. He shared the same fear.

There was always a point when Rose was talking that Tim's eyes started to glaze over and he stopped listening. It wasn't exactly something that could be helped. She was his girlfriend and all, but honestly, there was only so much a seventeen year old boy could take when it came to talking about hair, clothes and most of all, other girls.

"Can you believe the nerve of tha-tha-that harpy?" Rose stammered as she fumed. She let out a high-pitched noise of disgust that made Tim's spine want to twist into loops. "She should be expelled! Don't you agree?"

Suddenly those big green eyes were looking up expectantly into his face and Tim had half the sense to nod, though he couldn't recall what he was agreeing to. "Wait," Tim said slowly as he considered the implications of what he was about to say and proceeded cautiously. "What exactly did she do, again?"

"Timothy, haven't you listened to a word I've said?" Rose said shrilly, making Tim wince. "I can't believe you haven't been listening. This is important!"

Tim struggled not to roll his eyes. "I know, I know," he conceded. "I'm sorry. It's just...You talk about Ella so much that I'm starting to think you care about her more than me."

Rose scowled. Tim braced for a stinging hex. That clearly was not the right thing to say and he knew he would pay dearly for it, which is why he was astonished when tiny hands with surprising strength grabbed his collar and yanked him down for a kiss. Teetering on his feet, Tim's hands flailed as he caught his balance in the second before Rose released him.

Blinking dumbly, Tim just stared at Rose with his mouth agape. Rose smirked and took his hand to tug him along as she started walking down the corridor toward the Great Hall. "Tell me more of what you think," Rose demanded.

"I..." Tim said as he stumbled forward. "I think snogging is wonderful," he finished with a stupid nod.

Rose's wrinkled as she giggled, which made some sort of weird but pleasant feeling scurry through Tim. "You're funny," she replied.

"Yeah?" Tim said curiously. "Are you laughing with me or at me?"

Rose grinned. "Both. What else are you thinking?"

"I'm starved," Tim said as his stomach gurgled at him. He felt like he was always hungry these days.

Rose tilted her head. "Starved for what?"

Pie. Tim wanted to say meat pie. But this was totally a trick question, right? He could tell by the expectant look she was giving him. This had to be about her, obviously.

"Your..." Tim started without knowing what he was going to say next and he realized that body parts were the wrong words. "I'm starved for your affection?" he tried.

Rose rolled her eyes. "Try saying it without staring at my chest, Timothy," she huffed before she practically skipped into the Great Hall and over to the Hufflepuff table.

Tim sighed. If only he could put into words what he really thought about Rose.

"Oy, Greengrass!" came a shout from the Slytherin table. "Have a nice talk about dresses? You going to wear one, too?"

Rolling his eyes, Tim took a seat at the table. "Shut it, Avery, and pass the pie."

“You’ve never—?“ was all Jonas could get out before Prisca was shushing him with a kiss. He gently cupped her beautiful face and held her close for fear that she would tug away and call this whole thing off. It was her room, after all.

“It’s okay, love,” Jonas said with a quiet laugh as he held her gaze. Her blue eyes were guarded as she pulled back to blink at him. Oh, he was an idiot. She probably thought he was laughing at her, when really, he was laughing at himself. “I haven’t either,” he confirmed with a nod.

Honestly, it was embarrassing to be so near adulthood and have never shagged. Granted, he did have his religious reservations about it – sex before marriage and all – but to a young buck like Jonas, those guidelines were quickly tossed to the wind. It was easy to do when you had a girlfriend like Prisca. She was callous, she was vain, she was downright mean, but most importantly, she was drop dead gorgeous. How Jonas had landed in this fledgling relationship was beyond him. She’d simply pulled him aside at a school dance and proceeded to snog his face off.

Now, here they were, two weeks later, contemplating sex. Things certainly went fast in this school.

There was relief in Prisca’s face as he said the words and she chuckled. “You couldn’t get any? Ha,” she said in disbelief. “I don’t know if I want to be with a boy who couldn’t get at least one pair of knickers before leaving school.”

“Well,” Jonas said uneasily, that wasn’t entirely true. He’d fooled around a little with some girls, but it was never anything like this – they were in a bloody bed for Zeus’s sake! – and he wasn’t one to kiss and tell. Instead of refuting her claim he settled for kissing her. His tongue pushed past her lips and wrapped hers. Prisca returned the favor, and they continued to kiss in a smash of lips and tongues until they were both out of breath.

Jonas let his tongue slip out and flick against her bottom lip as he ran his hand through her hair. He nuzzled his face to the pillow as he stared at her, faces flushed and breath coming in pants.

“What?” Prisca demanded, eyes becoming guarded, again, as he watched her.

Jonas smiled, lopsided and sweet, as he fingered her collarbone. “I would be honored to be your first,” he said quietly, feeling a pang in his belly as he said it. He was already turned on from the tumbling in the sheets, but this went beyond arousal. He knew he was falling for her, though there was no way this relationship could last. She was an old money Pureblood, after all.

Prisca rolled her eyes. “Oh, how sweet of you to say,” she sardonically spat. “I no longer have to wonder why you are a virgin if that is your pick-up line.”

That got a breathy laugh from Jonas. “I wasn’t trying to pick you up, love,” he said as he trailed his fingers along her face. He then promptly tugged at his tie and pulled his jumper over his head. “I already have you, right here, flush and more beautiful than anything I’ve ever seen.” His hair was wild when the jumper was tossed away. “You do know that, right? How beautiful you are?” he added as he pressed light kisses to her neck, making her sigh. “I don’t think I can say it enough.”

Prisca groaned in resignation as she watched him slowly undress. She unzipped her skirt before watching Jonas pull it off of her gorgeous thighs. He then gave a small yelp as she grabbed him down into a lip crushing kiss. Their tongues tangled once more. Jonas focused on mapping out her mouth, finding little spots that made her pant. Zeus, did he ever love kissing. He could never get enough of it.

“If you tell one bloody soul,” Prisca growled as she gripped at the hair at the nape of his neck.

Jonas rolled his eyes. “I know. You’ll hex my bollocks off.” He sighed. “You know, that’s really not an arousing thing to say to a bloke.”

Prisca grinned – finally – and seemed to relax. “I don’t think I need to say much more to give you a stiffy,” she huffed, indicating his already hardening erection. He silently thanked God for not making him go limp from the performance anxiety he was currently feeling. That would have certainly put a damper on the afternoon.

“Just lie back and we’ll figure this out…together,” Jonas said as he rolled them so he was on top of her.

Prisca sniffed snootily. “You better make it good, Ackerly.” He could see the nervous tension in her eyes but she was putting on a damn good smirk. “Or I’m kicking you out, without your trousers.” She sighed when he dipped his head to press kisses to her throat as he unbuttoned her cotton shirt.

“I make no guarantees,” Jonas mumbled against her breast. “But I’ll definitely give it a go.”

“Give it a go,” she repeated hollowly. “Your seductive skills are marvelous.”

Jonas shushed her with a kiss. “I’ll let my hands do the talking,” he whispered gruffly as he pulled open her shirt. Prisca moaned softly as he fondled each breast with calloused thumbs, massaging her nipples into peaks before letting them turn soft, again.

“And I’ll be good to you, Prisca,” he added quietly, leaning down to nibble on her ear. “I’ll always be good to you, no matter how much you push me away.”

Prisca chuckled, though he could see a flush rising into her face. “You certainly have a way with words,” she whispered before he sealed off her mouth with another hot kiss.

Ow, ow, ow...

Rafe grumbled under his breath as he rotated his heavily bruised shoulder. He'd taken a nasty hit from a bludger about three-quarters in. United had won by forty points over the Falcons. It had been a brutal match. Then he'd been bombarded by reporters the moment he touched down. Rafe had obliged them. A hundred or so flash bulbs later, he finally trudged into the United locker room with a slight grouch going thanks to a now-stiff injured shoulder. It was nothing the team medic couldn't fix but the room was deserted and the medic nowhere to be found.

Great.

Carefully, he pulled off the team robes and let them fall to the floor. Rafe cringed at his silly mistake--a mistake that only the rookie would be nailed for--and bent down to gather up the robes and walk them to a laundry bin. On the way back to his cubby, the bruised beater started pulling off his under-clothes. He was fairly gone as far as exhaustion went--or at least that was his excuse for not noticing her sooner.

Rafe, down to nothing but his shorts, blinked dumbly at his wife. "Erin?"

Merlin, she moved fast. Since when did she move that fast? Oh Gods, just don't let her touch the shoulder. Not the shoulder, please.

He stared down in confusion at mousy blonde hugging his waist. Wait a second. He knew that smile. He knew that smile all-too-well. And it was dangerous. She could make him do anything when she smiled at him like that.

"Erin, what are you--?" but he was interrupted by her shushing him by putting a finger to his lips. His brows rose high.

"Mmm, let's go make a baby," she mumbled and pecked a kiss on his sweaty chest. The next thing he knew, she'd grabbed the hand of his good arm and was tugging him toward the showers. There was a determined smirk on her face.

Rafe flustered about for words. "Baby? Now? Here?," he blinked several times and stopped walking. "You want to shag here? In the bloody locker room?!"

She was then walking backwards and there was that smile again. The smile that would surely be the death of him. He adored it so very much. "But--But--" he stammered for words. "Finn! Finn could still be around! I don't think he'd like us shagging in the showers."

"Oh, I have it on good authority that Finn is currently preoccupied."

Rafe just stared in amazement at his wife as he followed her into a shower stall. She was being blatantly devious. ...And it was starting to turn him on.

"I don't imagine Joy had anything to do with that one," he muttered, pushing his shorts down and toe-ing out of them.

Erin's shirt was gone and she was hastily unbuttoning her slacks. "Hey, hey, hey--Let me help you there," Rafe said as he reached a hand to her. Erin slowed after stepping out of the slacks which Rafe took from her to drape over the curtain bar. Stepping near his wife again, Rafe gave her a lopsided grin and her arms came up to hug his neck.

"Hi," he said softly and dropped his forehead to hers. "Hi," she echoed.

His large calloused hands traveled her back and toyed with the clasp of her bra. Erin bit down on her lip and Rafe had difficulty keeping himself from kissing her for it. "Hmm, do I know you?" he continued calmly as he helped her slip out of the bra. "I think I've seen you at a few matches, big Prides fan, right? Ow! Hey!"

Rafe's facade had abruptly fallen when she tapped his sore shoulder--causing him to give an unmanly yelp and cringe. Then she was on him like an anxious mother. "Oh Gods! Did that really hurt? I'm sorry! I didn't meant to--"

It was Rafe's turn to silence his spouse and he chose to do it with his mouth. He hiked her up to his mouth with his good arm and gave her a sound kiss. His free hand brushed her blond locks back over her bare shoulder. They were both smiling when he nudged her brow with his and gave her lips one more peck. There was a murmur of approval in his throat as he gazed down at the perfect breasts pressed against his broad chest.

"They'll get bigger," Erin said with nod after her own glance down at her chest.

Rafe gave a light laugh as he moved toward the shower facet, Erin tiptoeing along with him. She wiggled a bit in his embrace to push off her knickers and blindly fling them away. Rafe bit into his cheek as he used the hand of the bad arm to turn on the water, spinning the handle all the way to 'hot'.

They both gasped and Erin did an awkward little dance on her toes when the first jet shot out and sprinkled them with cold water. He let go of his wife momentarily to reach up and angle the shower head to spray closer to the wall. Rafe flinched when he accidentally sprayed himself in the face but he never took his eyes off Erin. It never ceased to amaze him that he was so lucky.

"What?" she prompted shyly, fidgeting with a wet lock of hair. She took Rafe's outstretched hand joined him under the warm water.

Rafe pressed his lips to her forehead and sighed. "You're already perfect, Erin," he said quietly. "Just as you are."

"Oh, please, he's just a boy!" Erin snapped moodily after two fourth year girls who had just given her a set of dark glares as they passed the pair sitting on the bench. Dropping her hand from gesturing to Rafe, she sat back with a huff.

Though she was staring forward, Erin could sense the boy watching her incredulously so with an irritated sigh she rounded to him. "What?"

Rafe shrugged in his lounging seat next to her and feathered a hand back through his hair. "I just think you're blowing it out of proportion, is all," he replied nonchalantly.

Erin blinked before raising a finger toward his face because, oh, she definitely felt like yelling now. "If you think I'm just going to let that--that--slag say--"

"I think," Rafe interrupted as he sat up and turned toward the ranting blonde, "you should forget the slag and her silly rag paper and snog as many Quidditch players as you want." He raised up a hand and slipped his fingers through her hair while give her a half-smile.

She sighed again. "A serious conversation and you just want to snog."

Rafe shrugged again. "Never accuse me of being complicated," he mumbled as he leaned in to plant a soft, lingering kiss on her lips.

Her tears were of joy.

Brady could recall every painful, heartbroken minute of holding his young wife close as she wept out of fear and the unrelenting burden of her plight. She would shake with sadness and go limp against his chest; hiding her eyes and muffling her sobs. Slender fingers would grasp blindly for a hold of his shirt to cling to his resolve--she no longer possessed any. She was frail, so frail like the sickly child she'd always been, always would be.

Those tears were not happy ones.

But these were and yet, there was an ache in his chest all the same. As were the foreboding thoughts in his mind--albeit now for a different reason, but nevertheless deeply concerned.

"I don't understand," he began quietly, careful to reel back the worry in his tone, "the doctors, the healers... Not one said there was even a remote chance."

Harriet hiccupped a laugh against her husband's strong neck. Her fingers flexed into the flesh of his chest. She pulled back her face. Steely-blue eyes shined back at him. Her appled cheeks had a flush he hadn't seen in years. "Don't tell me you don't believe in magic," her sarcasm was lost in the strain of emotion in her voice.

"We're pregnant, Brady. We're pregnant," the last word was nearly lost in another gasp for the breath she'd lost minutes before.

Not even Brady could remain stoic after that one. He winced harshly as his felt his heart bash itself wildly against his ribs making his chest explode with pain. His next breath was gasping and shaky as his fingers lost themselves in her mousy dark blonde hair. He held her tight, terrified that this--their child--not the cancer in her bones could be the death of her.

Because she was pregnant. Harriet Higgs was pregnant. Brady Jefferson Higgs was going to be a father. Orson and Petra Higgs were going to be grandparents--which was a miraculous feat when their only child was their gay son. They were bringing a new life into the world and it was because of him. And because of her. And because of Gods knew what.

No. It was because of magic. Not wizard magic, but it was magic.

A tear escaped down either of Brady cheeks as he opened his eyes, but his lids quickly went heavy as he huffed a laugh. Seeing her dimpled smile had him pining for more naive days. "I love you, Harry doll," he said with an adoring toothy grin.

A warm palm cupped his jaw and the tiny blond wiggled close enough to bump her brow against his "I love you, hunky B," Harriet replied in a lusty tone and claimed her husband's mouth with her own.

"Oh, fuck off," Brady groaned and flicked what remained of his fag at Malcolm's legs. The drunken wizard lurched forward as he shoved himself upward from the stone floor; walking his hands and shoulders up the wall behind him. He swatted away his friend's attempts to help him to his feet.

Malcolm's face was stern and impatient. "You're not doing this again," he said firmly--though he had to shout to be heard over the music. He put his hands to Brady's chest in an attempt to pin the grouchy, taller man and prevent his escape. "This is not 'happy'!"

Brady scowled and gripped the front of Malcolm's shirt with both fists. "Depends on your fucking definition," he sneered and roughly shoved the other man away.

Brady gave himself a push off the wall and staggered a few steps before regaining his balance. A swagger was then back in Brady's step but his step was still in a daze. The tonic he'd taken had dilated his pupils and put a thin sweat on his skin--which was only added to by the humidity generated in the dance club packed full of bodies.

Before Malcolm could catch him, Brady had plunged into a crowd of dancing and gyrating pieces of meat. He let his hands wander as much as feet did with a grip here, a pinch there, and generally fondling any who would let him. On the anniversary of the death of your wife--who never knew your marriage was a complete sham meant to make your queer self feel better about her dying before she was even in her mid-twenties--you discriminated very little. And when you looked like Brady Higgs, there were few who would complain about the aggressive attention anyhow.

After a good five or ten minutes--perhaps shorter, perhaps longer; his brain wasn't in its highest functioning state--he became bored with the lackluster selection. Brady gave a roll of his eyes and began weaving toward the door. He had to get out of this stink hole and onto the next before Malcolm caught up.

Stupid fucking ponce, that Queen was. Tried to convince Brady (again) that promiscuity wasn't happiness. As if he knew anything of happiness--moping around after a worthless tripe of a pouf who wouldn't give a bleeding second look. Happiness. Fuck that. Honestly.

Brady was a half-step out of the door when a hand clamped down on his shoulder and pulled him back across the threshold into pouf-land. Fucking Malcolm... He shot back a glare and ripped his arm out of the grasp. "Shove off!" he slurred and hit the door once more.

Cold air was a welcome change on Brady's face. The club had been stifling. But once again, hands seized at him. This time Brady jerked away so abruptly that he nearly knocked himself off his feet. He stumbled into the wall of the building to brace for balance.

"I told you to fuck off!" he barked angrily and gripped at the brick to keep from falling flat on his arse. "I don't need your bleeding sympathy, Malcolm. I'm fucking sunshine and daisies over here, alright?"

It was then that a concerned face that wasn't Malcolm's swam through Brady's vision and hands went to his arms to hold on loosely. He heard a familiar voice say his name but he was too high to place how or why he knew the man.

"Who the fuck are you?" he muttered, eyes closing momentarily to combat the spinning of the world.

Hands touched his face. One swept over his brow while the other tucked limp locks of his hair behind his ears. Fingers were on his neck and then his chin--tilting his head gently as he was examined. Brady's heavy eyelids blinked slowly as he stared up from his slouching against the wall into worried dark eyes. A jacket was being draped over his shoulders when a hazy memory of the face came back to him.

"What the hell are you doing here?" Brady asked as Dan's hands fretted over him. "If Malcolm--"

A finger pressed to Brady's lips and he blinked wildly in surprise that someone would actually cut him off. "Malcolm had nothing to do with it," the scruffier wizard quickly corrected. "You practically molested every bloke in there. It was difficult to miss."

An indignant scowl crossed Brady's face and he pushed at the other wizard in attempt to make Dan leave. "Another bleeding good Samaritan--just what we fucking need. You going to marry a stupid dying bint, too? Is there a club now? Selfish Queer Fuckwits for the Terminal Muggle?"

Dan sighed and pressed back against the surly wizard. "You really can be an idiot if you set your mind on being one," he huffed on Brady's shoulder.

"Fuck--" was the only angry word Brady got out before the other wizard kissed him.

Fingertips pressed into the nape of Brady's neck and silenced him. Dan's brow brushed up against his. The tension left his shoulders and he rested his now droopy head back against the other man's. Brady's hands cupped Dan's scruffy warm jaw and the other man shivered under the touch.

"Your hands are cold," Dan muttered against the edge of Brady's mouth. He swallowed hesitantly and Brady's eyelids rose to half-mast to meet Dan's gaze. "If you say they're cold to match how you feel inside," the shorter and significantly more sober wizard began. He pressed another kiss on Brady's mouth before adding, "I'm revoking your speaking priveleges."

The morning air was sticky--no, it was suffocating--and it was impossible to breathe, but Elphias didn't dare loosen the black tie on his equally coal black dress robes. The tight pressure against his throat was the only hold the young man had on his sobs. His square jaw tightened down to the point of shaking, Elphias sat ramrod straight in the uncomfortable chair. He tried to focus on the words in the eulogy being given by Mycroft, but his mum who sat on his left hiccuped after every few words and Elphias had to chew the inside of his bottom lip to keep from dissolving into tears himself. He felt one sneak out anyway. It slipped down his cheek and over his chin to mingle with the perspiration on his neck.

"Berk wasn't just any Auror, he was--" Mycroft seemed to choke on the next words and had to pause to regain his voice. "He was my brother."

Elphias vaguely registered the lazy travel of the subsequent tears down his face. He'd wept enough in the last two days that he'd been numbed to the sensation. If only he could say the same for the persistent ache he felt with every thought of Berk. Elphias was certain that pain would never fade.

"Just tell me where you were!" Phoebe demanded in frustration.

Elphias flinched. The look of hurt and confusion on her face made him feel absolutely horrid. He knew he shouldn't be keeping secrets, but telling her would only make matters worse. Phoebe could be as headstrong as she was caring and Elphias knew she'd want in. She'd want to join The Order and fight alongside him, but that was something he couldn't allow to happen. He wasn't strong enough. He'd seen several comrades fall already and Phoebe...

Phoebe was his rock. She was the one place he could forget the fray and just be a normal wizard--or at least, as normal as one could be in a time of war--who had a hunger for old books and good tea. She was good. She was warm. She was the one glimmer of hope that he'd live to see the end of the war with He Who Must Not Be Named. Then they would be married and start a family--and Merlin help him if he ever lost her.

But right now? Things were iffy between them. Phoebe had grown weary of him excusing away the times he left the house abruptly only to return with scrapes and burns, not to mention the string of late night visits from Emmeline and Dedalus that she was excluded from. Elphias hated lying to her and it seemed pointless now that he knew she didn't believe him, but it was the only way he could proceed. He'd sworn an oath to The Order and he intended to keep it.

"I went to Hogsmeade to examine a book," Elphias told her quietly. He couldn't bring himself to meet her stare. His wand hand fidgeted underneath his sleeve hiding the burn where he'd been hit by a Death Eater's stinging hex.

Phoebe's chair scraped on the kitchen floor and Elphias didn't even have to look up from the table to know that she'd left the room. He felt colder already.

"Is this a date?" Phoebe quietly asked. Her knuckles were white as she gripped her tea cup.

Elphias's spoon clattered to the table. He winced and felt as though the entire shop was watching them, now. "Well, I asked you... So, I think that means it's a date?" he tried futilely.

They were hopeless.

"Oh," Phoebe replied without commitment. She sat down her tea and leaned across the table. Elphias's tea cup nervously rattled with his hand. "Well, people kiss on dates, right?"

And now, his tea was on the floor.

"I-I-I--" he stammered as they both crouched beside the table with their napkins. "I suppose so?" he offered feebly.

Pausing a moment to take in a look at her, Elphias surmounted the courage to lean forward and clumsily press his lips to Phoebe's. Phoebe's eyes went wide and she reeled back with a little squawk. Embarrassed, Elphias stood quickly and yelped when the back of his head collided with the table.

They now sat opposite each other, on the floor, spread eagle and redder than the table cloth.

"If I run away in shame, now, will you go with me?" Phoebe whispered, averting her eyes from the rest of the room.

"Absolutely."

Forty-six minutes. It had been forty-six minutes and he was certain that she still hadn't...you know. He certainly hadn't--which was a little disconcerting. And they had been going at it for so long that he wasn't sure if there was even a point to continuing. He was tired and he knew she had to be wearing out as well. He'd wanted so badly to make her...you know, but he also was terrified of hurting her on their first go. And. Well.

Elphias's body went limp with a defeated sigh. Even his arms gave out and his full weight pressed down on Phoebe's chest as his face flopped nose-first into the pillow beneath her. Phoebe smiled against his neck and her arms reached up to embrace it weakly. Her breathless giggles on his skin sent cascading shudders along his spine, causing his sweaty form to erupt in goose flesh.

Bloody hell, he loved that sensation. Her laugh always made him feel so warm. At times it did make him feel a little embarrassed (like right now) but it never made him feel ashamed--only loved. But oh was he ever embarrassed now. He wasn't even able to finish on the first go and he knew that was bad. He vaguely remembered a couple of girls back at Hogwarts going on at length about how many rounds some Slytherin bloke could go in one night and well, it definitely wasn't just one. One that he hadn't even made it through. Bugger. Bugger. Bugger.

He puffed a heavy breath into the suffocating fluffy mass his face was sunk in before he rolled off her onto one shoulder. Phoebe held on and followed him. Her bare thigh grazed upward to rest on his hip. She was smiling and it was infectious. Elphias laughed lightly in embarrassment and felt some color rise into his ears. He suddenly felt very awkward and unsure of what to say.

"I'm sorry, Pheebs. I just couldn't--I couldn't get it to--"

Phoebe silenced him with a soft kiss. Swallowing his words, Elphias brought a hand up to slip his fingers into her tousled red locks and give the handful a gentle squeeze. He was content to just snog her now--that he knew they did well, in his opinion anyhow. They could work on perfecting the sex another day.

Looking a fright, John arrives home to a squawk of, “Oh, no! No!” Matilda is darting at him before he can get both feet over the threshold. She fawns and generally behaves like a panicked ninny.

“Stop,” John futilely demands, It doesn’t come out as more than grave huff. He winces when Matilda makes another shrill noise. Eyes narrowing as anger bubbles up beneath the exhaustion, he roughly seizes her arms and gives her one good shake. “Stop this nonsense before you wake Johnathon.”

Matilda just hangs in his hands. There’s a mix of horror, pain, and confusion on her face. Her eyes are wild. She mouths soundless babble as tears shine in her eyes. John sighs heavily. She does have a reason to be upset. He looks like he’s been though a battle to the death. His robes are ragged and covered in a murky slop of sea water, sand, and blood. There’s dirt in his hair. Scratches and bruises cover his face and arms. There’s a burn and gash on his wand hand. He holds Matilda out at arm’s length to keep her from getting soiled.

“I’m fine,” he says evenly. “I’m fine, Matilda. Most of this isn’t even my blood. There were Aurors. We weren’t expecting there to be Aurors with them.” Matilda gasps a sob. John shakes his head slowly. “I’m fine. Honestly.”

He knows it’s coming when she whimpers, “Oh, John!” She throws herself against his aching chest when he releases her.

With his unmarred hand, he gently pets her hair. “I need to bathe,” he whispers. “We don’t want Johnathon to see this.”

Matilda hiccups as she reluctantly pulls away. She vigorously nods her head and gives a hard sniff. “I’m going with you,” she mumbles. “I want to see what you’ve done to yourself.”

John grimaces. He knows how horrible this is going to be. “I don’t think it’s a good idea.”

“I don’t care,” Matilda says sharply.

“All right,” he replies with a sigh.

John takes her hand and leads them to their washroom. The lights pop on as soon as they enter the room. With Matilda’s help, John peels off what remains of his robes and underclothing. Matilda gasps with each new wound that’s uncovered. It hurts John to see her so upset. He realizes that he should have went to a safe house to clean-up before returning home, but honestly, he’s not even sure which houses are safe anymore.

Pain slams through Mortimer's abdomen as the right-half of his torso is impaled, leaving him mangled and for dead. He cries out, but it's lost in the thunder and crunch of the world collapsing. The shock paralyzes him. He strains to breathe as he stares up at the gaping expanse of nothingness where a staircase used to be. Black spots begin to cloud the corners of his vision as the dizziness overtakes him. He knows he needs to move, but futilely screams, again, when he attempts to do so.

Suddenly, there are hands on him. He's startled by the touch. He expected to lay there much longer before the Mediwizards reached him.

Morty rouses with a shaky breath. The hands on his shoulders grip and pat him gently. He can barely hear Malcolm's voice whispering his name over the ringing of his ears. Slowly, Mortimer's eyes bat open. The room is dark and cool. He gets a chill from the sweat on his back. Hissing a breath, he puts a palm to the scar on his side. The nightmares always make it hurt.

"Malcolm?" Morty's voice is near-frog level of croaking. It's dry and cracked, and a little delirious.

Warmth of a body moves closer. Morty's eyes flutter closed as the sheets are pulled up around him. Malcolm whispers some hushing coos, which Morty would feel patronized by if he wasn't so tired from the fit in his sleep.

Malcolm's fingers brush over the stubble on Morty's cheek. "I'm here, love," Malcolm says thickly. He cups Morty's jaw. "You had a nightmare."

"I know," Morty hollowly replies. "I've been having them since that day."

Two hands are now on his face. "You could have told me."

"I didn't want you to worry."

"I was already worried."

Morty sighs in defeat. He reaches out to put his palm to Malcolm's bare chest, which he braces against as he adds, "It still hurts." He feels Malcolm swallow.

"Let me get you something."

When Malcolm begins to move, Mortimer rolls to his side to possessively grips at Malcolm's bicep and tug. "Stay," he says sternly. "I don't -- I don't want you to go anywhere."

"All right." Malcolm settles back down. "I just want to help."

Morty winces. "I know." He pauses to slowly nod before sidling his body close enough to Malcolm's that their chests are grazing. Morty drapes an arm around Malcolm's waist. "I know. I'm sorry I'm being such a git."

"Hush," Malcolm huffs. He brushes his fingers through Mortimer's oily locks. It sends a warm, loved feeling through Morty. "Do you think I care if you're grumpy? Well, the answer is 'no.'"

A small, sheepish smile crosses Morty's face. He ducks his eyes. "I guess I'll shut up, then."

When Malcolm kisses him, Morty can feel the mutual spike in their heart rates. He nuzzles his face closer until their foreheads are touching. Malcolm pulls one more kiss out of him before pausing hesitantly. Morty scratches his fingers against Malcolm's lower back as he quietly breathes. There is more he wants to say to Malcolm, but he's too tired for it -- he just wants to snog.

Morty drags Malcolm's lower lip into his mouth to suck and nibble upon. Malcolm's fingers tense in his hair; Morty pushes forward. He drops his jaw and rolls his tongue into Malcolm's mouth. They each embrace the other (Malcolm's hold is more gentle than Morty's) as the kiss deepens. He kneads and massages Malcolm's hips and arse. The thrill of his easily awakened arousal sends a tingly buzz through him, which also harps on the ache in his side.

Morty breaks the kiss to stutter a breath in pain. Malcolm frowns against his cheek and brushes swollen lips across his temple. As shivers rock through Morty, Malcolm simply holds on to him and they ride them out. The pain eventually dulls and Morty is able to breathe, again. Grateful and slightly ashamed, he makes no protest when Malcolm kisses him softly before slipping away. Morty pulls the covers closer as he waits for Malcolm to return with a pain relieving tonic. Maybe, he will get some sleep tonight, after all.

HOW IT WORKS

The Gist
Each of my character will (eventually) have their own page with ten 500+ word fics based upon the words in the word bank. Links to their pages, which will created as needed, can be found next to their names.

Requests
Pick one character and one non-stricken word from the bank. Once a word has been requested, it will be stricken and cannot be requested again. The current cap for fics per character is ten. So, spread the love around.

Nothing in these fics should be considered game-canon unless the players of the characters involved deem it to be game-canon.

Originally, I was just going to link back to the 30 Random Kisses for me to work on, but then I realized how much the relationship status of my characters has changed within the last 8 months. Thus, here is a new table. So, without further ado...

Brady had sent the owl to Dan and gone about his after-work routine with the assumption that an owl of reply would return citing a later time that evening when Dan could be expected. There was no question if Dan was coming, not after the younger man had so ravenously panted and pawed as he creamed in Brady's hands barely a week prior. It was a question of when. Brady had assumed he'd have at least another couple hours to make himself presentable. In actuality, Brady barely had time to see off his son with the sitter and loosen his tie before his flat's chimes were ringing again indicating a knock on the door.

Raising a curious brow, Brady picked up his wand from the coffee table and gave it a flick. His shoes and court robes soared off to their place in his closet. He approached the door and made a swish in the air to drop the wards; the door popped open with an obedient creak. Brady's face settled into a knowing smirk when an eager Dan was revealed. The younger man was across the threshold before Brady could invite him in.

The kiss was rough and hungry. Brady gave a hasty blind wave of his wand and the door slammed closed. The wand clattered and rolled away on the wooden floor. Brady's hands moved to catch the shorter man's face as Dan's fingers dug their way beneath Brady's undershirt to travel is torso. The force of Dan's pounce made Brady stumbled back a few steps. He made no protest to the 'hello'-less fondling. What bleeding idiot would protest this?

Clothes began hitting the floor. Brady slung away his tie and dress shirt before his hands seized Dan's neck again. He pressed back, tilting Dan's head as he shoved his tongue down for a taste. The hands on his torso scrambled to lift the Brady's remaining undershirt. Brady finally broke away from the snog to hike the undershirt over his head. Dan's mouth leapt to his chest before the shirt even hit the floor.

Brady mumbled an appraising, "Fuck," as he watched Dan's head descend and felt a moist tongue sliding from his sternum to navel. It gave him a fucking rush to both heads. Brady's eyes fluttered closed and he issued a soft grunt. He was very appreciative of the sudden and aggressive attention.

The dizziness subsided. Brady glanced down his front and feathered fingers through Dan's short yet silky soft locks as the other man placed kisses on the sensitive skin beneath his navel. He gave Dan an encouraging roll of his hips as calm fingers worked open his trousers. There was another swear on Brady's lips when Dan yanked the trousers and then pants off his hips fast enough to unsteady his stance.

Dan's scruffy chin slid over Brady's abdomen as the kneeling man tilted his head back to shoot up a lopsided smile. A breathy chuckle escaped Brady and he pushed his fingers through Dan's perfect hair again. "Definitely working your arse over at least three or four times before morning," he told the other man nonchlantly as Dan worked a hand over Brady's prick, coaxing up an erection.

"I was thinking more like...six," Dan replied boldly with a grin. Dan's jaw then went slack and Brady winced with wanton ache as Dan swallowed the length of his prick on the first go. Lips hit Brady's body and Dan's nose pushed into his lower abdomen.

Brady's head lolled back and his jaw went slack with panting moan; his fingers gripped tightly at the hairs they held. He met Dan's upturned gaze with a heavy-lidded one and watched the younger man go to work a chuckle of disbelief. Brady panted another approving swear and the hand in Dan's hair slid down to rest on the nape of the other man's neck. Dan's hands gripped onto Brady's naked hips as he sucked off Brady in a marvelously learned fashion.

"Bloody fuck," Brady hissed finally, unable to keep the pleased smile off his face as Dan's head bobbed against his hand. "Let's just make that an even ten."

"But we're in the loo of the bleeding Ministry, we can't--" Malcolm was interrupted by his own grunt as Brady dragged his hips up Malcolm's front once more.

Brady smiled wide against Malcolm's flush cheek. He rolled his shoulders out of the robes he wore and let them fall from his arms to the marble floor. Brady wrenched Malcolm's chin down to a placement of his liking and planted a kiss on the reluctant man's lips. Malcolm's hands--which had swung limply at his sides since Brady had first cornered him in the stall--went for Brady's tie and tugged it loose before yanking Brady's shirt free of his trousers.

There was a chuckle in Brady's throat when he drew back. "I knew you'd come around," he taunted in a low voice and pressed his mouth to Malcolm's once more. Brady's fingers went to his own belt to make quick work of the buttons but it was Malcolm's hands that pushed away the trousers in the mad dash to cop a feel of Brady's naked body.

Brady drew in a nasalized breath as he mouth continued to twist against the warm lips of his would-be lover. Brady palmed Malcolm's groin until the younger man had to break away for a gasp and then grit teeth over his own whimpers when Brady's hand pushed inside his pants.

Malcolm tilted his head back against the stall and panted, eyelids falling as Brady worked. "Just like seventh year," Brady whispered breathlessly against Malcolm's ear as he pushed down the other man's trousers. The remark got a delirious smile out of Malcolm before Brady had spun him around and pushed him face-first into the cool surface of the stall's wall.

A hand reached back to grasp blindly at Brady's shirt tail and trail it back to a naked hip. "This isn't Hogwarts," Malcolm said in a huff between his gasps for air. He groaned when Brady laughed and pressed against him.

"I know, you silly pouf," Brady said against the nape of Malcolm's neck before giving it a kiss. "No graduation to break things up here."

"Fuckin' right--Merlin buggering hell!" Malcolm gave a shout and futilely braced against the smooth surface of the wall when Brady's fingers raked over his arse.

After another heavy neck-wrenching kiss from Brady that left them both flush, Malcolm preemptively bit down on his bottom lip while Brady's palms smoothed down the lines of his hips. Brady smiled against the spot of back between the other man's shoulders. Malcolm shot a hand up to grip the top of the stall as Brady's confident hand tucked a massage into the curve of Malcolm's warm arse to relax the muscles.

"Every day that you're here, doll," Brady huffed. He gripped Malcolm's body fast to him and pulled the tight embrace down Malcom's toned torso as he went to his knees. Brady lifted Malcolm's manhandled shirt and wiped his tongue over the small of the other man's back. Malcolm hissed a swear and squirmed impatiently against Brady's touch.

Brady was grinning once more. "Every day," he repeated, now speaking to Malcolm's beautiful arse with a trill of hunger in his voice. Brady put firm hands on Malcolm to hold the other man in place as he slid his tongue down the tailbone of the Ministry's newest employee for a proper Brady Higg's introduction to the fold.

"The wife has been a bloody bint about the separation," Brady was explaining to his secretary when a younger wizard came in and dropped paperwork onto his desk. He didn't even acknowledge the other man and continued to layout his afternoon schedule with Bess--until he noticed that there was more than case notes in the delivery.

"Stop!" Brady barked at the first year attempting to squeak out his office door without an explanation for the small parcel he had snuck in beneath the stack of parchment. The boyish wizard flinched and halted with the door half-open. Brady pulled a terse smile when he glanced back up to his assistant. "Give us a moment, Bess."

The tall blond nodded and retreated out of the office. Stebbins waited until she had gone before he finally turned back and nervously shoved his hands away into pockets. He did meet Brady's gaze, but his eyes were nonetheless terrified. The older wizard's face set and the parcel was fished free to be tossed atop the desk's pile.

"What the bloody hell is this?" Brady demanded and gave the wrapped box a jab with his finger.

Stebbins teetered on his feet. "A present," he mumbled.

Brady rose a brow. "A what?" he prompted sharply.

The younger wizard anxiously scratched at his hair and crossed his skinny arms over a skinny chest. "A present," he repeated more firmly, "for Terry."

"Terry?" Brady's entire brow rose high and he sat back casually. "And why are you presenting me with gifts for my child?"

"Well...it's his birthday, yeah? This weekend."

There was no change in Brady's cool demeanor. "Are you the bribing sort, Stebbins?"

The question seemed to startle the young wizard. "W-what?" he stammered, arms falling back to his sides. "Mr. Higgs, in no way was it my intention to bribe--"

"So, it was out of the goodness in your heart?" Brady interrupted. "No ulterior motive whatsoever?

His even gaze seemed to be making the younger man squirm. It caused a slow smirk to pull at his lips. Stebbins seemed to be considering his words carefully. The color in the first year's face drained when Brady stood. "I-I can take it back," Brier rushed to offer.

"No," Brady countered lightly as he came around the desk to stare down at shorter Stebbins. "That won't be necessary. My son does quite like presents."

Brier's throat bobbed as he swallowed hard. He held the older wizard's gaze but there was still a fleeting nervousness in his slight frame; it twitched as though he might soon dart away. The tell-tale anxiety only bolstered Brady's interest. He thoughtfully dragged his teeth slowly over his bottom lip and watched the young wizard's eyes follow the movement.

"Do you like presents, Brier?" Brady prompted in the same calm tone.

The question seemed to rattle the other man. "Mr. Higgs, I'm not sure--"

Stebbins's words were cut off by Brady clapping a hand to the back of his neck. The young wizard's eyelids fluttered as he mouthed a soundless response. A knowing smirk was back on Brady's lips as he massaged the heel of his palm into the tense muscle of the man's neck where a racing pulse throbbed. Brier put a hand to Brady's front but he didn't shove the other man away. The touch hung there while both of Brady's hands smoothed down either side of the timid man's face and gripped his shoulders.

"I-I'm not--" Brier stammered but his fingers grabbed blindly at the taller man's shirt with gasp when Brady cupped the groin of his trousers.

Brady let out a breathy chuckle. "Sure you aren't, doll," he replied with a knowing grin and yanked the shorter man up into a kiss.

11. a jumbled up mess

Brady was anxious, that much was evident. It had been over a month since he'd felt another man in his hands. It was difficult to get away from the house with Harriet being such a light sleeper.

It was getting easier though. Harriet had begun to sleep more and more which was likely to propagate until the day came that she didn't wake. Whether or not she would live long enough to deliver their child was a toss-up. Her life had been in a balance for the past year. The doctors and healers never agreed on the shaky but inevitably dire prognosis. The answer seemed to change week by week. Some said a month. Some said six. And yet others gave an optimistic two years before the disease would kill her. It had Brady on edge. He could not stand or sit still for longer than a few seconds and he had tore a number of heads off at the office with the moody demeanor resulting from all the stress.

A fist raised and rapped erratically at the door in front of him. Brady hadn't told Malcolm he was coming, but in was nearly four in the morning and he knew Malcolm wouldn't stay out this late on a weekday. Brady hoped that there wasn't another man inside. He needed his best friend (and lover) right now before he really did lose his bloody mind.

The door opened a crack and a sleepy Malcolm poked his head out, shielding his eyes from the corridor lights with a hand. "Brady? What's wrong?" his voice was thick with sleep. Brady's response was to seize the other man's face with both hands and jerk him into rough kiss. Malcolm gave a yelp of surprise before returning the kiss as his hands went to Brady's arms.

Brady had no intention of wasting time on twenty questions from Malcolm as he acted the concerned friend. Brady wanted a shag. He wanted another man. Now.

Biting down on Malcolm's bottom lip, Brady pushed the other man back into the flat and kicked the door closed. The whole place was dark save for a hallway light that Malcolm had likely turned on as he wandered to the door. Brady didn't waste time with finding more lights. His hands had clawed their way under Malcolm's shirt to rove over the skin he was desperate to feel. Brady's breathing was quick and shallow on Malcolm's mouth which he peppered with hungry kisses.

Brady continued to back the other man toward the bedroom. Clothes fell haplessly to the floor as he undressed them in the dark. Malcolm blindly worked Brady's belt free as Brady put hot kisses on his neck causing hushed whimpers to escape Malcolm. When they hit a wall, Brady pressed his weight into Malcolm to pin the other man as he fondled Malcolm's naked body. The other man's taunt nooks and curves felt bloody fantastic to Brady's desperate hands.

Malcolm let out a groan against Brady's neck when Brady fisted the other man's hardened prick. Brady muttered an intelligible swear when Malcolm returned the favor. After several seconds of foreplay, both men were panting for breath. Brady bumped his forehead against Malcolm's as he let himself forget about the rest of his life. All that mattered right now was shagging and feeling every millimeter of Malcolm's skin.

Talking was entirely out of the question.

Pushing off from the wall, Brady watched Malcolm's hand work over his prick and gave an appreciative groan when a thumb massaged his head. Clapping Malcolm's strong neck, Brady continued to avoid the other man's eyes--worried that he or Malcolm would say something ridiculously stupid--and led Malcolm to the bedroom. Pivoting awkwardly on his heel, Brady hooked Malcolm's naked waist and slung the other man down on the bed before toppling to his knees himself.

Brady could hear Malcolm's labored breathing as the other man sat forward and wrapped Brady in an embrace. Malcolm planted his lips on Brady's chest and drew a soft cry out of Brady when he bit down on a nipple. There was remorse mixed with the arousal in the pants of Brady's breathing; regret for putting Malcolm through the ringer with his marriage, for making loyal Malcolm continue to wait. His hands went to Malcolm's face to tip the other man's head back so Brady could kiss him once more.

Gods he wished this could happen more often--every day even--like it had been before. Before, before, before... Brady couldn't change what he'd done. Nor did he want to. As much as it pained him to bench Malcolm, it would kill him to take away the new life he'd given to Harriet. But he could feel Malcolm beginning to slip away. There was nothing Brady could do without destroying it all.

Using his body, Brady pressed Malcolm back to the bed and let his fingertips graze over Malcolm's outer-thigh. The other man shivered under his touch and hungry hands splayed over Brady's abdomen. It has been much too long since their last shag.

Brady's hand instinctively went to the nightstand and groped for a tube-shaped object. He sat back when he'd found it and a hand went to Malcolm's arse to massage the muscles loose before opening the lube. Malcolm sighed out a groan when Brady's fingers followed the cool lubricant inside him. Brady put his free hand to the smooth skin over Malcolm's hip bone and slumped forward to let his lips find the other man's erection in the dark.

Malcolm arched suddenly when Brady dropped his jaw and took the prick into his mouth. Brady sighed in content as he swallowed over the erection he was servicing. He was only able to give a few pulls with his tongue and lips before he felt Malcolm's body tensing.

Fuck. He needed--no, loved--Malcolm Brown so much it was ridiculous. But everything about Brady's life was ridiculous. 'Simple' just didn't take.

Brady tensed and arched with a moan as he suddenly came. The stress had him pent up like an angsty teen with no boy to stick his prick in. The momentary release of all the frustration made his body go nearly limp. Brady's face landed with a flop in the pillow at Malcolm's shoulder and he sucked for air. Malcolm's feet hesitantly left Brady's shoulders and fell back to the bed as Malcolm continued to make terse, unfilled pants and grunts. Brady winced in realization and mild embarrassment at his folly. Pulling out he moved to drop his body next to Malcolm. Brady used a hand to roll Malcolm away and onto his side before shoving an arm underneath the other man. Brady pulled Malcolm back to his chest and planted a breathy kiss to Malcolm's neck.

Breathing against Malcolm's shoulder, Brady's free hand reached over the other man's toned waist and encircled the waiting erection. Brady confidently worked his hand to coax Malcolm to climax as he brushed kisses over every bit of skin in craning distance of his neck. But Brady was soon dizzy and his temple drooped to Malcolm's cheek. Brady attempted to breathe calmly but his pulse continued to pound at his chest, throat, and even his thoughts; making it impossible for him to focus.

He never wanted it to end.

In his own moment of delirium, Brady hugged Malcolm to him and lifted his lips to put a strained whisper over the other man's ear. "I love you, Malcolm," Brady had to gasp to reel in the remorse cracking in his voice. "So fucking much."

"Oh, fuck off," Brady groaned and flicked what remained of his fag at Malcolm's legs. The drunken wizard lurched forward as he shoved himself upward from the stone floor; walking his hands and shoulders up the wall behind him. He swatted away his friend's attempts to help him to his feet.

Malcolm's face was stern and impatient. "You're not doing this again," he said firmly--though he had to shout to be heard over the music. He put his hands to Brady's chest in an attempt to pin the grouchy, taller man and prevent his escape. "This is not 'happy'!"

Brady scowled and gripped the front of Malcolm's shirt with both fists. "Depends on your fucking definition," he sneered and roughly shoved the other man away.

Brady gave himself a push off the wall and staggered a few steps before regaining his balance. A swagger was then back in Brady's step but his step was still in a daze. The tonic he'd taken had dilated his pupils and put a thin sweat on his skin--which was only added to by the humidity generated in the dance club packed full of bodies.

Before Malcolm could catch him, Brady had plunged into a crowd of dancing and gyrating pieces of meat. He let his hands wander as much as feet did with a grip here, a pinch there, and generally fondling any who would let him. On the anniversary of the death of your wife--who never knew your marriage was a complete sham meant to make your queer self feel better about her dying before she was even in her mid-twenties--you discriminated very little. And when you looked like Brady Higgs, there were few who would complain about the aggressive attention anyhow.

After a good five or ten minutes--perhaps shorter, perhaps longer; his brain wasn't in its highest functioning state--he became bored with the lackluster selection. Brady gave a roll of his eyes and began weaving toward the door. He had to get out of this stink hole and onto the next before Malcolm caught up.

Stupid fucking ponce, that Queen was. Tried to convince Brady (again) that promiscuity wasn't happiness. As if he knew anything of happiness--moping around after a worthless tripe of a pouf who wouldn't give a bleeding second look. Happiness. Fuck that. Honestly.

Brady was a half-step out of the door when a hand clamped down on his shoulder and pulled him back across the threshold into pouf-land. Fucking Malcolm... He shot back a glare and ripped his arm out of the grasp. "Shove off!" he slurred and hit the door once more.

Cold air was a welcome change on Brady's face. The club had been stifling. But once again, hands seized at him. This time Brady jerked away so abruptly that he nearly knocked himself off his feet. He stumbled into the wall of the building to brace for balance.

"I told you to fuck off!" he barked angrily and gripped at the brick to keep from falling flat on his arse. "I don't need your bleeding sympathy, Malcolm. I'm fucking sunshine and daisies over here, alright?"

It was then that a concerned face that wasn't Malcolm's swam through Brady's vision and hands went to his arms to hold on loosely. He heard a familiar voice say his name but he was too high to place how or why he knew the man.

"Who the fuck are you?" he muttered, eyes closing momentarily to combat the spinning of the world.

Hands touched his face. One swept over his brow while the other tucked limp locks of his hair behind his ears. Fingers were on his neck and then his chin--tilting his head gently as he was examined. Brady's heavy eyelids blinked slowly as he stared up from his slouching against the wall into worried dark eyes. A jacket was being draped over his shoulders when a hazy memory of the face came back to him.

"What the hell are you doing here?" Brady asked as Dan's hands fretted over him. "If Malcolm--"

A finger pressed to Brady's lips and he blinked wildly in surprise that someone would actually cut him off. "Malcolm had nothing to do with it," the scruffier wizard quickly corrected. "You practically molested every bloke in there. It was difficult to miss."

An indignant scowl crossed Brady's face and he pushed at the other wizard in attempt to make Dan leave. "Another bleeding good Samaritan--just what we fucking need. You going to marry a stupid dying bint, too? Is there a club now? Selfish Queer Fuckwits for the Terminal Muggle?"

Dan sighed and pressed back against the surly wizard. "You really can be an idiot if you set your mind on being one," he huffed on Brady's shoulder.

"Fuck--" was the only angry word Brady got out before the other wizard kissed him.

Fingertips pressed into the nape of Brady's neck and silenced him. Dan's brow brushed up against his. The tension left his shoulders and he rested his now droopy head back against the other man's. Brady's hands cupped Dan's scruffy warm jaw and the other man shivered under the touch.

"Your hands are cold," Dan muttered against the edge of Brady's mouth. He swallowed hesitantly and Brady's eyelids rose to half-mast to meet Dan's gaze. "If you say they're cold to match how you feel inside," the shorter and significantly more sober wizard began. He pressed another kiss on Brady's mouth before adding, "I'm revoking your speaking priveleges."

Bloody hell was he young.

Brady had guessed the bloke was twenty-something by his boldness at the discotheque. Those dim lights added at least eight years to any face. Still, the younger man clad in black had the stones to waltz past Brady into the flat and help himself to a seat on the khaki sofa. The kid was arrogant--that much was apparent. But he was still a good ten years younger than Brady if not more. It was unlikely he could hold composure for long in the older man's hands.

Door shut and warded, Brady kicked off his polished shoes before his shirt and trousers soon joined the heap. Though Brady still faced the door, he knew the other man was eying his backside as he stripped. Brady unabashedly made a flourish of letting each article of clothing fall to his feet. He hooked his thumbs under either side of his underwear's waistband and turned around before pushing them off his hips.

Brady smirked when he saw that the handsome bloke had already unzipped his trousers to palm his prick.

He held the intense gaze of the other wizard's gray eyes as he strode to the couch. The younger but slightly taller man let out a groan when Brady confidently climbed on and straddled the man's lap. He feathered a hand into the silky black locks. Hands were on his thighs but Brady ignored them as he forced the man's strong jaw to tilt up and rest the head of soft hair to the back of the sofa. It also made the other man meet Brady's stare.

"How old are you?" Brady deadpanned.

The gray eyes rolled upward to dismiss the question. "Old enough."

"--to get your arse fucked by an older man?" Brady amended. "I should say you are."

The bloke's gaze darkened and slid back to Brady's. "I normally do the fucking," Sirius replied calmly. His brow pressed into a line when Brady chuckled.

"You 'normally do the fucking'," the older man echoed. He pressed his palms to either of the younger man's temples--to keep him from shrugging off the next question. "How many, lover boy?"

There was still defiance in the brunette's expression when he spoke. "Plenty," he quipped. "Skirts and blokes."

"Ah, I see," Brady said, his tone becoming lofty. "Hogwarts' newest Casanova, are you?"

Sirius's gaze slid off to the side and a muscle his lean, strong neck tensed. "I didn't come here to talk--" the man's words were cut off when Brady draped an arm over the cushion at either side of Sirius's head and lowered himself to press closer.

Brady dropped his forehead to the top of the silky head of hair and watched hungry hands wander his torso. After a second of pause, Brady posed his theory. "You've never had a bloke shag your arse and come inside you." There wasn't any waver of question in the older man's voice. He knew it was truth.

There was a ripple of momentarily tension in the younger man--an anxious flinch that betrayed his youth. "I've never felt the need," he replied passively.

Brady's forehead rerouted itself to Sirius's. He was no longer chuckling but the ever-present smirk remained. "You need to know," Brady told him calmly. "You need to appreciate the other bloke's position."

Sirius kept his gaze lowered as he pondered Brady's words. He then gave another roll of his eyes. "You'd say anything to fuck me," he retorted in a pointed but anxiety-riddled tone. He sucked in a sharp nasal breath when Brady ducked to press a hard kiss on his mouth.

Hands splayed over the curve of Brady's back as he arched his strong hips forward and pushed the kiss deeper. He held either side of Sirius's head with his elbows as the younger man chased his lips in the hot and heavy snog.

"Bloody'ell," Sirius gasped when their mouths broke away.

Brady brush his lips over the other man's shadowed jaw and nipped at the nearby earlobe. "Oh, you'll be yelling more than that," Brady breathed, his lips bumping over the ridged flesh of the ear, "when I fill your arse with my prick and give you the best fuck you'll ever know."

A shiver went through Sirius. His throat bobbed with a hard swallow before he licked his abused lips in frustration. "Fuck, somehow you're making me hard saying that."

With a conquering smirk, Brady pulled away and braced his left hand to the back of the couch as he loomed over Sirius. His right went to cup the other man's groin and palm his prick.

"Happens to us all, love," he told the handsome brunette before leaning off the bloke's lap and letting himself fall into his own seat on the couch.

Sirius let his head loll to his cheek to hold Brady's eye line. His eyes closed briefly with each aroused exhale he made as Brady pulled at his prick. The younger man suddenly issued a grunt and a hand suddenly shot up to clamp onto Brady's bare shoulder.

Brady bit down on his lower lip to hold back another laugh as he grinned. The hand in Sirius's lap didn't relent. "Take off your clothes," he firmly reminded the younger man who was now flush with want.

The hand fell from Brady's shoulder and went to assist its mate in unbuttoning the polyester shirt. Sirius raised himself up a few centimeters as he worked to bring his face near enough for another kiss which Brady gladly met.

A black shirt was tossed dismissively behind the couch and Sirius's hands seized Brady's face. He pushed defiantly against the older man but Brady quickly rolled his weight and was on top of the brunette once more.

Brady removed the hands from his face and slid off crouch on the wood floor before the sofa. Trousers and underwear were removed from Sirius's skinny hips with deft yanks downward. Brady stretched himself out to reach his wand which had ended up on the floor and cast a wordless summoning spell.

"Turn over," he told the other man. "Put your belly to the back of the couch." His voice was even but not mocking. Sirius seemed hesitant but when a tube flew into Brady's hand, he obliged the instructions.

Standing, Brady observed tell-tale stiffness in the younger man's frame though his square jaw still held firm. Making slow but deliberate movements, Brady sunk a knee to the sofa on either side of the brunette's legs and brushed up his chest up close to Sirius's back.

"I want to be able to walk in the morning," Sirius blurted, shooting a hard look over his shoulder which loomed just centimeters above Brady's chin.

Brady smiled against the other man's pale skin and slipped a hand around to encircle an erect prick. "I'm taking care with you," Brady told Sirius with the same confident air that seemed unflappable. "I never want you to forget this."

A hundred or so flash bulbs later, he finally trudged into the United locker room with a slight grouch going thanks to a now-stiff injured shoulder. It was nothing the team medic couldn't fix but the room was deserted and the medic nowhere to be found.

Great.

Carefully, he pulled off the team robes and let them fall to the floor. Rafe cringed at his silly mistake--a mistake that only the rookie would be nailed for--and bent down to gather up the robes and walk them to a laundry bin. On the way back to his cubby, the bruised beater started pulling off his under-clothes. He was fairly gone as far as exhaustion went--or at least that was his excuse for not noticing her sooner.

Rafe, down to nothing but his shorts, blinked dumbly at his wife. "Erin?"

Merlin, she moved fast. Since when did she move that fast? Oh Gods, just don't let her touch the shoulder. Not the shoulder, please.

He stared down in confusion at mousy blonde hugging his waist. Wait a second. He knew that smile. He knew that smile all-too-well. And it was dangerous. She could make him do anything when she smiled at him like that.

"Erin, what are you--?" but he was interrupted by her shushing him by putting a finger to his lips. His brows rose high.

"Mmm, let's go make a baby," she mumbled and pecked a kiss on his sweaty chest. The next thing he knew, she'd grabbed the hand of his good arm and was tugging him toward the showers. There was a determined smirk on her face.

Rafe flustered about for words. "Baby? Now? Here?," he blinked several times and stopped walking. "You want to shag here? In the bloody locker room?!"

She was then walking backwards and there was that smile again. The smile that would surely be the death of him. He adored it so very much. "But--But--" he stammered for words. "Finn! Finn could still be around! I don't think he'd like us shagging in the showers."

"Oh, I have it on good authority that Finn is currently preoccupied."

Rafe just stared in amazement at his wife as he followed her into a shower stall. She was being blatantly devious. ...And it was starting to turn him on.

"I don't imagine Joy had anything to do with that one," he muttered, pushing his shorts down and toe-ing out of them.

Erin's shirt was gone and she was hastily unbuttoning her slacks. "Hey, hey, hey--Let me help you there," Rafe said as he reached a hand to her. Erin slowed after stepping out of the slacks which Rafe took from her to drape over the curtain bar. Stepping near his wife again, Rafe gave her a lopsided grin and her arms came up to hug his neck.

"Hi," he said softly and dropped his forehead to hers. "Hi," she echoed.

His large calloused hands traveled her back and toyed with the clasp of her bra. Erin bit down on her lip and Rafe had difficulty keeping himself from kissing her for it. "Hmm, do I know you?" he continued calmly as he helped her slip out of the bra. "I think I've seen you at a few matches, big Prides fan, right? Ow! Hey!"

Rafe's facade had abruptly fallen when she tapped his sore shoulder--causing him to give an unmanly yelp and cringe. Then she was on him like an anxious mother. "Oh Gods! Did that really hurt? I'm sorry! I didn't meant to--"

It was Rafe's turn to silence his spouse and he chose to do it with his mouth. He hiked her up to his mouth with his good arm and gave her a sound kiss. His free hand brushed her blond locks back over her bare shoulder. They were both smiling when he nudged her brow with his and gave her lips one more peck. There was a murmur of approval in his throat as he gazed down at the perfect breasts pressed against his broad chest.

"They'll get bigger," Erin said with nod after her own glance down at her chest.

Rafe gave a light laugh as he moved toward the shower facet, Erin tiptoeing along with him. She wiggled a bit in his embrace to push off her knickers and blindly fling them away. Rafe bit into his cheek as he used the hand of the bad arm to turn on the water, spinning the handle all the way to 'hot'.

They both gasped and Erin did an awkward little dance on her toes when the first jet shot out and sprinkled them with cold water. He let go of his wife momentarily to reach up and angle the shower head to spray closer to the wall. Rafe flinched when he accidentally sprayed himself in the face but he never took his eyes off Erin. It never ceased to amaze him that he was so lucky.

"What?" she prompted shyly, fidgeting with a wet lock of hair. She took Rafe's outstretched hand joined him under the warm water.

Rafe pressed his lips to her forehead and sighed. "You're already perfect, Erin," he said quietly. "Just as you are."

"How do you make it..." she purred and leaned forward to run her hands over the seat again. "Fly?" Prisca finished and arched herself back into the man's lean chest, letting her head fall to his shoulder and her nose to his cleanly shaven cheek. Bloody fuck, he smelled good.

The smile he gave was devilish--like a dog ready to bite. He didn't tense and go slack-jawed like most men did around her. The perfectly straight hair and the strong jaw weren't bad traits either. But it was the eyes that had gotten her. They were a sort of off-grey that would subtly shift depending on the light. His eyes were also dangerous. So intense that she couldn't let herself leave the pub without feeling that gaze on her body.

Then he'd mentioned he'd came by way of a "motorcycle"--a muggle vehicle fit for one (or two, if positioned snugly). Her father and brothers would fly into a rage if they could see her. It had to be done.

His soft lips dragged up her cheek to settle on her ear. Prisca's eyelids went heavy. "That would be a secret, love," he said slyly as his fingers found her bare thighs and raked upward until he was scrunching the mini-skirt of the scarlet-red keyhole dress she wore. His eyes left hers momentarily as he fiddled with something on the handles. There was a roar that settled into a rumble as the metal beast awoke.

A soft moan escaped her painted lips and she pressed herself more firmly against the strikingly pretty man--a stranger with suavely bold hands. Her right arm snaked up to drag her long nails lightly over the skin of his neck. "Fortunate then," she said with her brow still tucked to his hair-less cheek, "that I don't care how you get it up."

The warm chuckle he gave made her smirk. Then a hand was on her breast bone and fingertips gazed her throat and chin. Prisca closed her eyes, certain she would moan again if she continued to stare into beautiful, arrogant face. She did have an ego of her own to attend after all. She couldn't let him know that he had her this bloody hot for him that quickly. And the rumbling machine beneath her was not helping in the least.

But Merlin he was...wonderful. What cupboard had he been hiding in all this time? She would have loved to have experienced this treatment much much sooner.

The metal beast roared once more and they were suddenly airborne after a swift jaunt up the alleyway.

Sirius was quiet for several seconds before he murmured sound of realization mingled with a yawn. "I'm guessing it was some kind of itty bitty insect bloke, yeah?" he theorized thickly. "You quashed him good, doll. Will have to thank you properly--"

"I told you to leave," Prisca snapped. "Five. Hours. Ago."

Another pause for yawning passed. Prisca huffed angrily. She refused to face him. She wanted the idiot ponce gone. It wasn't a decision open for discussion. She had more meaningful things to attend to--shoe shopping, in fact.

There was finally movement behind her, but it was not the movement the pampered witch had demanded. The mattress creaked and shifted as Sirius slid across the bed closer to her. Perfectly trim brows narrowed over her hardened blue eyes. This was ridiculous.

"I don't hear you leaving," she seethed and considered reaching for her wand on the nightstand. She could expel the idiot out the window that opened on the courtyard. That would certainly make her point and get her father's attention. The blood-traitor filth could actually prove useful,

Warm fingertips brushed the tousled deep brown locks from her shoulder. The back of a hand slid slowly over her bare skin from jaw downward. Prisca's eyes fluttered closed. The caresses were arousing but she stubbornly refused to yield to them. Lips were soon on her shoulder making soft O's up her neckline. Prisca dragged a bite over her own plump lip, but turned away when the kisses reached her chin and his nose brushed her cheek.

Prisca's strong jaw set and she re-gathered the sheet around herself. "I don't do morning-after shags, hotshot," she said dismissively with a shake of her head.

Mark smoothed a calm hand over...Brie's? Brian's? pale-skinned chest as the younger wizard panted in lust. He'd finally shut up and Mark no longer had to shove fingers in his mouth as Lydia ordered to keep Brian quiet. Lydia was atop him and giving the lad slow grinding treatment. It had set Brian's pulse to slamming in his chest as she methodically pushed him further.

After making sure the young wizard was properly inebriated with a heightening combination of drubs, his foreplay had been to watch Mark and Lydia sleaze their way through a quick and dirty shag. "I-I've never kissed a bloke before," Brian stammered. Mark glanced to Lydia who twitched another smirk but generally looked bored as she sat there and took another drag off a cigarette. He licked his lips hungrily and returned to the task at hand.

Mark's hand went to Brian's boyish face and he gave the young man another kiss. "It's nothing to be ashamed of, all right?" Mark quipped and rolled Brian on his side, his back to Mark.

"What're you doin' now?" Brian asked in a slur--the "medicine" Mark had just given him was surely making him feel like he was floating by now. His wiggle of protest was lackluster as Mark massaged a warm salve against against a very tight arse.

"Relax, love," Mark breathed across Brian's neck having now sidled his naked body closer to the un-adulterated one before him. "You'll enjoy this. I promise."

"Okay," was the sighed response as Mark's hand left the arse to wank his own prick up. Most of the tension seemed to leave Brian and he continued to contently sigh.

Mark pushed himself up to wrap his body to Brian's smaller frame. He gripped at the bony chest and pressed his mouth to Brian's neck. "I don't understand," he began quietly, careful to reel back the worry in his tone, "the doctors, the healers... Not one said there was even a remote chance."

Harriet hiccupped a laugh against her husband's strong neck. Her fingers flexed into the flesh of his chest. She pulled back her face. Steely-blue eyes shined back at him. Her appled cheeks had a flush he hadn't seen in years. "Don't tell me you don't believe in magic," her sarcasm was lost in the strain of emotion in her voice.

"We're pregnant, Brady. We're pregnant," the last word was nearly lost in another gasp for the breath she'd lost minutes before.

Not even Brady could remain stoic after that one. He winced harshly as his felt his heart bash itself wildly against his ribs making his chest explode with pain. His next breath was gasping and shaky as his fingers lost themselves in her mousy dark blonde hair. He held her tight, terrified that this--their child--not the cancer in her bones could be the death of her.

Because she was pregnant. Harriet Higgs was pregnant. Brady Jefferson Higgs was going to be a father. Orson and Petra Higgs were going to be grandparents--which was a miraculous feat when their only child was their gay son. They were bringing a new life into the world and it was because of him. And because of her. And because of Gods knew what.

No. It was because of magic. Not wizard magic, but it was magic.

A tear escaped down either of Brady cheeks as he opened his eyes, but his lids quickly went heavy as he huffed a laugh. Seeing her dimpled smile had him pining for more naive days. "I love you, Harry doll," he said with an adoring toothy grin.

A warm palm cupped his jaw and the tiny blond wiggled close enough to bump her brow against his "I love you, hunky B," Harriet replied in a lusty tone and claimed her husband's mouth with her own.

The window was going to shatter if it shook anymore. Matilda was sure of it. It was because of the wind. The storms had been dreadful. Lightning had struck the front lawns--split a tree in two. The gardens were hopelessly flooded, no matter how many rain shield charms the caretaker cast. The moor was completely saturated. It made the air dense and cold. Rolling fogs kept her from seeing more than a yard out from the window. It made her uneasy--terrified of what was lurking in the mist. She'd seen plenty of shadows and hesitant shapes. She couldn't shake the feeling that something awful had happened.

Rattle, rattle, rattle.

Matilda wished the bloody window would just explode already. Howling wind in her face would be a welcome change. The constant, reverberating noise was going to make her homicidal in her current state. She'd paced and paced and paced the length of the sitting room just off the main foyer of the Mulciber estate. The midwife had the baby which only left Matilda to worry, worry, worry about her husband. His mother was dead and his father was out there in the battle with his son. Matilda loathed them both. They didn't have to worry. Hmph.

Bang!

Matilda shrieked. Either side of the large window had smacked the wall as it was flung open. Wind, rain, fog, and cold rushed into the room in a chilling wave. The blond witch cowered away from the window as her own hair whipped back and stung her face. Matilda's face blanched and her blue eyes went wide as she futilely gripped at a bookcase and squinted outward.

To dark shapes emerged from the fog and were hurtled toward the open window. Two wizards--John and his father--on broomsticks flew straight into the sitting room and pulled expert stops. Both men were soaked and covered in filth. John had several cuts on his face and hands. His father had a patch of mangled flesh where an eye had once been.

"Could they have followed?" John panted anxiously after his father had slammed the windows shut again with a flick of his wrist.

"No. Not in this mess," the older wizard said with a dismissive wave of a blackened hand at the window. With another flick, the brooms soared out of the room on their own. "And that is why we flew."

"But they do suspect," John added pointedly. "How long do you think we have until they realize--"

"John?" Matilda prompted softly. The name came out shakier than intended but it caused both wizards to pause and glance to the source. The harassed-looking witch pushed herself off the bookcase. She made it two steps before she wobbled, feeling lightheaded at the sight of them.

John was across the room and holding her up before she had time to blink. "What's going on?" she asked quietly and looked up to her husband in fear.

An unmarred hand landed on John's shoulder. "I will begin setting the wards," John's father started in solemn tone. "It won't be long now. You know what you must do." A pause. "Think of your family, Johnathon."

The older wizard left the couple in the room. John's face had become stoney. His jaw was squared, his eyes were guarded. Matilda gaped at her husband and tried not to faint before she learned more.

"John, what is it? What's happening?"

He swallowed and met her gaze. "We're going to Tuscany."

"What?" Matilda gasped in shock, looking at her husband as if he'd grown a third eye.

"We're packing and taking Mattias to Tuscany. Tonight. There is a home waiting for us."

"I don't understand. Why are we taking a holiday when he is so close to defeating--"

"He is dead."

"What?"

John glared down at his wife and grasped her upper-arms tightly. There was a wild anger in his eyes--an anger full of fear. "He is dead! Dead, Matilda! And I am too if we don't leave right now!"

It was then that his words actually sunk in. Matilda felt her knees leave her legs and she slumped against her husband. Her feet refused to cooperate. She just let her cheek slide down the front of his wet robes as she as she started to weep.

The sigh John let out was heavy and full of regret. He gathered Matilda to him and pulled her up into his arms. He rested her weight on his chest. Her arms went instinctively around his strong neck which she buried her face into. John gripped her tight and tangled a hand in her hair.

Matilda gasped for an emotional breath. "How do you know they won't follow?" she choked out.

"They will follow. They will want to me in Azkaban," John corrected. Matilda went limp once more in his arms, suddenly unable to breathe.

"But it won't matter."

Matilda's head jerked back and she gaped at her husband again, this time in utter skepticism underlain with sheer terror at the thought of losing him. The look on John's face indicated he'd expected her reaction. "May father is taking the fall," he told her with sincerity though the words seemed to sicken him.

Realization splashed over Matilda's features and she gripped at his shoulders. "Oh, John," she whispered and attempted a look of understanding though she was secretly thrilled with his father's decision. She couldn't lose her husband. She just couldn't.

"He's lived through enough. He's ready to die," John added, taking a deep breath and swallowing the lump in his throat that would have him cry. "I'm sorry," he blurted in a rush. "I'm sorry for everything I've put you through. Sorry for everything that's happened--the arranged marriage, the nights alone, the--"

Matilda pressed up on the balls of her feet to kiss her suddenly-remorseful husband. She could taste faint traces of blood on his injured lip, but she held on like he was her last breath. It was then that she could feel the beating of his heart. Through all the layers her wore, she felt it slamming away in his chest. John was scared. John was never scared. Matilda shivered in her own fleeting fear.

John's forehead dropped to hers when they broke for breath. The dull ache in Matilda's chest seized when she noticed the tremble in his lower lip. "I'd die before I lost you, Matilda." The blonde winced and sucked in a harsh, pained breath.

If only he allowed her the same luxury.

In all his visits to Hogsmeade, Brady had only stepped inside Honeydukes once and that visit had been cut short after the stock boy had caught young Brady's significant glances. After four years, their partially secluded spot beneath a stairwell at the back of Zonkos had changed very little and the same could be said for quiet and needy young man whose face was buried against the starched collared shirt concealing Brady's taunt abdomen. But unlike the stock boy, Brady had grown from a doe-eyed spindly adolescent to an epitome of arrogance and moxie in that time. Yet he still felt obligated to toss a few minutes to the older man every Hogsmeade visit. It was he who had introduced Brady to 'getting head' after all.

Brady sighed in impatience and threaded his fingers through dark blond mane of the man who still knelt before him. He didn't outright order the man to leave but the hint was clearly taken--the tight hold on his waist relented. Brady carefully tucked himself back into his trousers and fastened the hook and button. The other wizard mumbled a disheartened goodbye and never met Brady's eyes as he made a quick exit around the back of the building. Brady retrieved a dark blue jumper and black leather jacket from the ground where they had been tossed in haste barely fifteen minutes prior. He shook them out and walked around to the side of the wooden stairwell to drape the clothing over a railing and dress himself once more.

"It's rude to watch two blokes going at it without asking, you know," he suddenly deadpanned to the afternoon air. Brady slowly turned around as he shoved one arm, then the other into the jumper. Hazel eyes rolled up upward in annoyance when he saw that the head of dark hair had yet to raise from behind the large wooden crate that stood barely two meters away.

"Oy!" he said louder and yanked the jumper down over his head. "I saw you squirm more than a bit when he was tugging at my pants so there's no use to hiding." Brady paused after straightening his shirts and his hands settled on his hips. "Well, I'm not going to thump you for it, you ponce."

That seemed to do the trick. A younger boy rose up beneath the mop of dark hair looking flushed and nervous. His eyes were big and he was altogether twitchy. Like he'd be caught stealing a country or looking at the Minister's biddies, honestly.

"Oh, calm yourself, mate. It's just a shag. You know, sex between two blokes. Not that you would be old enough to understand--"

"I've shagged a bloke!" the peeper squeaked.

Brady arched a brow in disbelief. "You?"

A vigorous nod. "Lots of times! Last year."

"Oh yeah, with who?" the older boy pried in suspicion. Another pouf in the castle that he didn't know of? It was poposterous.

The boy blanched and stammered a bit. "I can't tell you that!" He cast an uneasy glance away. "And well, he was actually the one that did the shagging--"

"Really now?" Brady's expression brightened and he stepped closer to the crate the younger boy still stood behind. "So, you enjoyed it then?" he asked slyly.

Doe-eyes raised to meet his. "Well, yeah," the boy said with the first flash of a smile.

Brady cracked a smirk of his own. Merlin, a fresh fit boy for him to lay it into. It was bloody mad to have one just fall into his lap. It was never this easy.

"What were you doing back there?" Brady gave a nod to the old crate seated between.

The boy's face flushed once more. "Er--" he started nervously and was glancing away once more. Brady was enjoying how much he was making the cute brunette fluster. "Well, I'd heard that you--uh--you were, er--"

"Queer?" Brady supplied.

That got a flinch. "Yeah, yeah. That you were queer and I was just--uh--thought maybe, since you're queer and I'm queer... Er. That we could..."

"Start a club?"

His shoulders seemed to slump in defeat. "What? No." The younger boy's expression scrunched in confusion at the deadpanned seriousness in Brady's reply. "What I meant was--"

The boy didn't get to finish. Brady's hands and gone to either side of his clammy-skinned face and given an insistent tug forward. There was sounds of scraping as the boy scrambled atop the crate and closer to Brady. The kiss was short and deliberate. Brady broke it letting his lips slide to the soft corner of the other boy's mouth. His breathing was calm and met with hungry pants.

"What's your name?" Brady murmured against the boy's cheek and gripped the back of his sweaty neck with a rough palm.

Hands found the front of Brady's jumper and fisted the knitted material. "Malcolm," was the anxious answer.

Brady smiled slowly and nudged Malcolm's forehead with his own. "Hi, Malcolm. I'm Brady," he said quietly, his mouth finding the other boy's once more.

"I know," Malcolm sighed as Brady breathed him in.

The morning air was sticky--no, it was suffocating--and it was impossible to breathe, but Elphias didn't dare loosen the black tie on his equally coal black dress robes. The tight pressure against his throat was the only hold the young man had on his sobs. His square jaw tightened down to the point of shaking, Elphias sat ramrod straight in the uncomfortable chair. He tried to focus on the words in the eulogy being given by Mycroft, but his mum who sat on his left hiccuped after every few words and Elphias had to chew the inside of his bottom lip to keep from dissolving into tears himself. He felt one sneak out anyway. It slipped down his cheek and over his chin to mingle with the perspiration on his neck.

"Berk wasn't just any Auror, he was--" Mycroft seemed to choke on the next words and had to pause to regain his voice. "He was my brother."

Elphias vaguely registered the lazy travel of the subsequent tears down his face. He'd wept enough in the last two days that he'd been numbed to the sensation. If only he could say the same for the persistent ache he felt with every thought of Berk. Elphias was certain that pain would never fade.

Forty-six minutes. It had been forty-six minutes and he was certain that she still hadn't...you know. He certainly hadn't--which was a little disconcerting. And they had been going at it for so long that he wasn't sure if there was even a point to continuing. He was tired and he knew she had to be wearing out as well. He'd wanted so badly to make her...you know, but he also was terrified of hurting her on their first go. And. Well.

Elphias's body went limp with a defeated sigh. Even his arms gave out and his full weight pressed down on Phoebe's chest as his face flopped nose-first into the pillow beneath her. Phoebe smiled against his neck and her arms reached up to embrace it weakly. Her breathless giggles on his skin sent cascading shudders along his spine, causing his sweaty form to erupt in goose flesh.

Bloody hell, he loved that sensation. Her laugh always made him feel so warm. At times it did make him feel a little embarrassed (like right now) but it never made him feel ashamed--only loved. But oh was he ever embarrassed now. He wasn't even able to finish on the first go and he knew that was bad. He vaguely remembered a couple of girls back at Hogwarts going on at length about how many rounds some Slytherin bloke could go in one night and well, it definitely wasn't just one. One that he hadn't even made it through. Bugger. Bugger. Bugger.

He puffed a heavy breath into the suffocating fluffy mass his face was sunk in before he rolled off her onto one shoulder. Phoebe held on and followed him. Her bare thigh grazed upward to rest on his hip. She was smiling and it was infectious. Elphias laughed lightly in embarrassment and felt some color rise into his ears. He suddenly felt very awkward and unsure of what to say.

"I'm sorry, Pheebs. I just couldn't--I couldn't get it to--"

Phoebe silenced him with a soft kiss. Swallowing his words, Elphias brought a hand up to slip his fingers into her tousled red locks and give the handful a gentle squeeze. He was content to just snog her now--that he knew they did well, in his opinion anyhow. They could work on perfecting the sex another day.

"Just tell me where you were!" Phoebe demanded in frustration.

Elphias flinched. The look of hurt and confusion on her face made him feel absolutely horrid. He knew he shouldn't be keeping secrets, but telling her would only make matters worse. Phoebe could be as headstrong as she was caring and Elphias knew she'd want in. She'd want to join The Order and fight alongside him, but that was something he couldn't allow to happen. He wasn't strong enough. He'd seen several comrades fall already and Phoebe...

Phoebe was his rock. She was the one place he could forget the fray and just be a normal twenty year old wizard--or at least, as normal as one could be in a time of war--who had a hunger for old books and good tea. She was good. She was warm. She was the one glimmer of hope that he'd live to see the end of the war with He Who Must Not Be Named. Then they would be married and start a family--and Merlin help him if he ever lost her.

But right now? Things were iffy between them. Phoebe had grown weary of him excusing away the times he left the house abruptly only to return with scrapes and burns, not to mention the string of late night visits from Emmeline and Dedalus that she was excluded from. Elphias hated lying to her and it seemed pointless now that he knew she didn't believe him, but it was the only way he could proceed. He'd sworn an oath to The Order and he intended to keep it.

"I went to Hogsmeade to examine a book," Elphias told her quietly. He couldn't bring himself to meet her stare. His wand hand fidgeted underneath his sleeve hiding the burn where he'd been hit by a Death Eater's stinging hex.

Phoebe's chair scraped on the kitchen floor and Elphias didn't even have to look up from the table to know that she'd left the room. He felt colder already.
