The little key felt heavy in his hand, but Rhett knew that Belle had meant for him to use it when she gave it to him. And that was what he was going to do. He needed to write, and while usually he could lock himself in the tiny office in his apartment to do so, they were fumigating the whole building and he was forced out for the next two days. It was short notice. A flea infestation from a fellow tenant's dog had gone from bad to worse to out of control. The apartment manager hadn't had any choice but to give everyone a few hours notice of the bug bombing and then to let the pest control guys tent the building and fumigate. That left Rhett scrambling to gather up what clothes he needed while he checked his blackberry for appointments and meetings he might have had. Nothing for the next three days, so he packed casual clothes, work out clothes. His lap top and a few other various things he thought he might need. Originally his intention had been to get a hotel. Hole up in the place and write away the three days that he was going to be locked out of his apartment. But then he remembered the little key and for a long time he weighed the options. Go to Belle's and risk infringing on her privacy or go to a hotel and risk inciting anger over his blatant disregard for the fact that she had invited him into her home. In the end he figured if he annoyed her that badly she could kick him out and that would be better than appeasing anger or hurt feelings that would follow a hotel stay. It was early afternoon when he arrived and he knew she would still be on the set so it gave him time to write for a while. He sat at her kitchen table, working from his lap top in the quiet of her beach front property. This was a far better place to write than his apartment where he could always hear everything everyone else was doing, from the woman downstairs who always left her tv on too loud or the woman next door who couldn't control the volume of her voice during sex. Here there was just the sound of the ocean on the sand because he had opened the back door when he got there. Around the time he knew Belle was going to be getting home he saved his work and left his laptop on the table so he could start something for dinner. The least he could do for her if he was going to be invading her space was cook a little. He wasn't the best at it, but he started up the grill, intent on making some chicken and maybe some sort of vegetable or fruit. Grilled fruit was wonderful and he wasn't sure if she'd ever had it before.
