The Hood exhales watches the fog lifts from every part of the world around her inside the room. A young woman, no more than two years older than her, sits in a rocking chair facing the window. Her hair is stark white, unusual for her age. The Hood remembers how the doctors said a traumatic event could do such to a person, as well as provoke the catatonic state her sister now enjoys.

Melissa Robbins pulls the hood back and kneels before her sister Bree, smiling into her vacant eyes as the woman continues to stare out the window and into the garden of the Shadybrook Asylum. Melissa remembers their father, Parker, taking them to meet their grandmother in a place much like this one when they were younger. Melissa hated this place as much as she hated that one, but she came every Sunday to see her sister anyway.

“I found someone who’s gonna help me find Daddy, Bree. I wanted you to know, because if I don’t come for awhile, this is why. I just have to help this person with… stuff. Stuff like Dad used to be into. I need to know you won’t hate me for this, big sis. Sometimes I think I’m going crazy, but I’ve never felt like I was more right in my life.

I’m gonna bring Daddy home, and then you. Then we’ll be a family again. I swear it.” Melissa says.
