Strengths: Lily is quite adept with her magical ability, particularly in potions and charms. She is well read, and often referred to by her close friends as a 'great source of useless knowledge'. She can likely be caught spouting facts both muggle and magical at any given moment. Aside from being quite strong academically, Lily is an excellent leader. She speaks her mind, doesn't back down, and takes shit from no one. She is willing to step up and take responsibility, even when nobody else is, and make sure that situations are under control and well managed. It is this skill that makes her quite a good prefect, even for just starting out. She has wanted to be a prefect since beginning school, so she's been honing her skills for years now. Though most people don't realize it, she also isn't really bad at flying; she's quite talented in fact. She just really has no taste [or time] for Quidditch.
Weaknesses: Lily often follows her views on rules and justice to a fault. She is almost always serious when it comes to school. It sometimes keeps her from just relaxing and enjoying herself, or having just about any fun at all. Upcoming tests keep her in a state of stress and worry. She also sometimes neglects some of her other obligations when she gets caught up in reading something particularly good. She's also rather poor at herbology, but she manages to pull off a good grade with a lot of effort and extra credit assignments.
Darkest Fear: That the rumors about dark wizards rising are twice as bad as they sound, and that something terrible could happen to Hogwarts.
Boggart: Having Dumbledore take back her prefect badge, and kick her out of school.
AppearanceOne of the first things that people notice about Lily is her bright red hair. It reaches the middle of her shoulder blades, and is dark red in color and rather thick. She usually wears it down most of the time, but sometimes pulls it back when she is reading or studying, to keep it out of her face and eyes. Said eyes are a vibrant green in color, almond-shaped, and always look even brighter when knowledge is at hand. Her face is just short of being round, with high cheekbones, a thin nose and somewhat pouty lips, which are usually curled into a good-natured smile. Or a familiar scowl, if the trouble makers of her house are up to their old tricks. Her eyebrows are also kept thin, and match the vibrant red of her hair. Her skin is well taken care of. It is rather light, just short of genuinely pale, and devoid of most blemishes, though she does have some freckles on her shoulders and arms.
Despite her strong will and attitude, she isn't very large in size. Lily isn't particularly tall, standing at just about five feet and five inches in height [always standing at her very best posture, of course!], and weighing probably somewhere between one hundred and ten to one hundred and twenty pounds. Her weight is distributed well for her size, leaving her with a rather slender figure instead of curvy; though she does have a formidable chest for her age, and decent hips, much to her dismay. She really doesn't fancy the attention.
She isn't really concerned about her appearance, since other things are much more important. Conventional beauty isn't really of interest to her, and she likes to be natural and relaxed. Still, she has the ability to work it when she needs to, and she realizes that she is quite pretty by most average standards. She is rather modest about it, and usually shrugs it off if people compliment her.
People mostly being James Potter.
Lily doesn't focus much of her time onto fashion, and between classes/studying/reading & prefect duties, she barely considers the chance to change out of her school robes. Most of the time, they are what she can be seen wearing around the common room and corridors; sometimes with her tie undone, or the first few buttons of her blouse unclasped, in moments of particular stress and aggravation.
When she does have a chance to wear something different though, she is quite content to wear some of the muggle clothing that she took with her from home. She has some formal wear for special occasions, some nice dresses and blouses and skirts and things of that nature, as well as a pair of dress robes that she picked up in her third year [and has yet to have a chance to get decent use out of]. But if she's going to be dressing casual, then casual it shall be. She has a wide variety of casual muggle clothing packed into her trunk too after all. Jeans and an old tee shirt with a simple pair of trainers, and she would be set for a weekend at Hogsmeade.
PersonalityLily Evans is a generally pleasant girl. She isn't very egotistical, though she is serious, down-to-earth, and mostly calm. She can be quite sweet and charming, and even cheeky at times to the people whom know her the very best. Lily refers to herself simply as 'sane' to best describe herself. She has many friends, and is loyal and kind to all of them, even if sometimes she does lack the time she'd like to spend with them.
With all of those close to her, Lily is loyal to a fault; once she is your friend, she will always have your back, and never back down from a challenge. She stands up for herself and her friends alike. Though she'll rarely be the one to apologize first in an argument.. she's a bit too stubborn for that, and usually believes she's in the right in most fights. Even if she may not always be. Sometimes she can be a little thick-headed for such a bright girl. She believes the best of everyone in most cases and genuinely likes to think that everyone has a little bit of goodness and honesty in them somewhere.
Lily is very diligent to the rules of Hogwarts. She believes that they are all there for good reasons, and that Dumbledore wouldn't enforce them otherwise. Thus they should be respected and followed at all times. She has a strong sense of justice, and has no problem stepping up to right a wrong that she sees happening, even if she may not be directly involved. She is a brand new prefect for the Gryffindor fifth year class, working along side Remus Lupin, and is often chiding him about being easy on his mates when they're breaking the school rules. She sticks by what she considers to be right in the world, muggle and wizarding alike, and isn't quick to sway her opinion away from what she believes in. Being a muggleborn, she is very intensely invested in the rights of muggles and equal rights. Lily is strongly set against the idea of pureblood supremacy
She also has a little-known fondness for music, particularly muggle rock and roll, and will gush for hours given the chance. Some of her favorites include Janis Joplin, Fleetwood Mac, Bob Dylan, the Sex Pistols, Eric Clapton, the Rolling Stones, and the Doors.
Though she has a bit of a temper, it takes quite a bit to make her snap. She usually tends to keep it under control, unless someone genuinely crosses her; either doing something to one of her friends, or by insulting one of her causes/beliefs. Letting out her temper, though, usually ends in someone hexed and possibly some shouting and cursing on the side. It's best to keep Evans calm, if possible, since she can be quite a force to be reckoned with when she's angry or peeved.
HistoryBorn to a simple muggle family on a snowy morning of January 30th, Lily was the youngest of two daughters. The Evans family owned a just above average home in Northern England, though not far from the rundown neighbourhood of Spinner's End, and it was in this area where Lily did all of her growing up. Her upbringing was really fairly ordinary for the majority that Lily can recall. Just simple times. Her immediate family included only herself, her mother, her father, and her older sister, Petunia.
She and her sister were very close as children, they played together frequently despite Lily being younger and the two got along quite well. That was until it was discovered that Lily was a witch, and that she would be going away from home and to private school at which to learn magic. Both of the Evans parents were proud of and thrilled with their youngest daughter's news, as was Lily herself. However when Petunia's jealousy and animosity toward her sister grew, the closeness between them disappeared. Petunia began to view her sister as a strange 'freak', and the broken relationship between the sisters has never quite healed.
It makes Lily's summers at home quite awkward at best.
A couple of years before she had even received her letter, however, Lily had met a boy named Severus Snape after a particularly nasty confrontation with Petunia. Though he was a bit odd and strange to her, he and Lily got along quite well, and very quickly became the best of friends before a year had even gone by. It was through Severus that Lily was informed about the full extent of her magical ability, finding out that she was indeed what one called a 'muggleborn' witch, a trait that would allow her to attend Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry with Sev when the two of them turned eleven. Even though they were sorted into opposing houses, with her in Gryffindor and Severus in Slytherin, Lily and Severus remain close friends still, years later. Even if she isn't fond of his growing interest in the darker side of magic.
Outside of Severus, Lily has been quite a social girl and made other friends at school, though none as close as Sev. She gets along quite well with the majority of her house, even with some of the more troublesome students who drive her crazy, though she never misses out on a chance to berate them and tell them to behave themselves for once in their lives.
Already in her fifth year, Lily is considered by her teachers to be a very gifted witch and an excellent student, especially in potions. She has really grown into her own, and into her role at school. She is bright and attentive to her studies, and has finally become a prefect, as she has wanted to do since beginning learning at Hogwarts. It's a role that she takes very seriously. She believes strongly in Dumbledore, and in her duties as a prefect to Hogwarts.
Writing SampleLily hadn't been fond of the idea of this 'amazing' party from the minute that the plot had left James and Sirius' mouths.
That was only natural, of course. Pretty much any plan those two came up with could only end in trouble for her, and anyone else in the castle who lived a life by the rules. Plus as the lowest prefects on the Gryffindor totem pole this year, she and Remus would probably be the ones stuck cleaning up the mess and fixing whatever James and Sirius did to the first and second year students who were daft enough to trust them. It wasn't something that she was looking forward to. The weekends were much better for resting, when you finally had a break from classes.. curling up in bed, or an armchair, and getting down to that charms homework, or transfiguration paper.
Detention had been tiring her out, too. It was her first time in detention, in all of her five years at Hogwarts, and that in itself was rather traumatizing and draining. She hated to think that she, a prefect, had let her temper get the best of her. And then there was her detention partner, of course, and Narcissa Black was tiring on one's patience at the very best of times, let alone when she was supposed to be getting her pretty hands dirty and doing some work.
For the last four nights, one of her sisters had been slipping her a wand, and the blonde had been managing to get out of doing any work at all, while Lily worked her hands practically to the bone, scrubbing trophies and bathrooms. It was infuriating, at the very least, not to mention demeaning.
Trudging her way up to the tower, Lily was just about exhausted by the time she reached the Fat Lady's portrait. She had no trouble gaining entry; the Fat Lady didn't even ask for a password, just giggled at her, said something Lily didn't quite catch, and then swung open before disappearing out of her frame again. Sighing heavily, the redhead stepped inside just in time before the door slammed closed behind her. She could already hear the music, and see some thing that looked like fireworks going off just down the short walk into the room, and she sighed heavily; one hand coming up to rub anxiously at her forehead and the bridge of her nose.
It was going to be a long night.
