Happy Easter, everybody! A day late, but yesterday was a very busy day, as usual for Easters with my family. Somehow, even though I don't live there anymore, it's always assumed that I'll be there bright and early Easter morning to sing in the choir during service and supervise the children's egg hunt at the picnic afterward. I might be getting too old for that. Maybe I should've helped my mom in the kitchen this year and swapped with Dana. After all, soon she'll have a kid of her own to be running after.

And that was enough family time until...I could probably get away with Fourth of July, though my birthday is in a couple months. Twenty-five. I am getting old, as my mother likes to remind me. Time to stop playing with children and start having children, or some philosophy along those lines.

History

Darcy Anne was born the middle child of Geoffrey and Caroline O'Hare, with all the stigma that came with the position. Her father was a Baptist minister, her mother a homemaker, both loving people who truly wanted to do good for the world, but with a strong set of values and expectations to which they expected their children to adhere. Their oldest daughter Dana did so to a tee. She made straight A's and volunteered at her father's church and was for the most part a good and dutiful daughter, and the youngest child, Damian, chose to enter seminary to follow in his father's footsteps to become a minister.

And then there was Darcy, who was never content living in tiny Awendaw, South Carolina, living the quiet life her family seemed perfectly fine carrying out. From an early age, she loved to stand out. She was a friendly, ougoing child, who grew up singing in the church choir and performing in community theater. Her bright smile and vivid hair helped her attract the attention she loved, first from doting adults and then from boys, when she got her braces off and her frizzes became curls. Her parents would've much preferred that she was more like her quiet older sister, but Darcy always liked the social aspect of school more than the learning part, becoming very active in drama.

Things almost went very wrong when Darcy graduated high school and announced that she was going into acting as a profession. Her mother sobbed and begged her to stay home, and her father didn't think it was a suitable career for a daughter of his. But Darcy is nothing if not determined, and despite their disapproval, enrolled in and graduated from Savannah College of Art and Design with a major in performing arts. During her time there, she experimented with everything a minister's daughter shouldn't do, and had an absolute blast right up until she was turned loose into the real world.

Of course, South Carolina isn't Hollywood. In fact, it's an entire country away. So Darcy was faced with the option of either hitchhiking across the United States, or finding a job to pluck up the funds to make it on the West Coast on her own. It's been almost two years, in which she's witnessed her sister's marriage and the announcement of her first child, and her brother's ordainment, and endured her mother's subtle hints that she should follow in her sister's footsteps. But Darcy isn't ready for marriage and pregnancy yet. She has dreams to fulfill, and that's not part of the plan, though she does love children. Instead of having any of her own, she works at Wild Dunes Resort in the day care center by day, keeping children occupied while their parents take advantage of the resort golf courses. By night, she's a torch singer. No, seriously. She's regular entertainment at the resort, usually performing at restaurants or at weddings and other events held there, and has moved into a little place of her own on Isle of Palms to be closer to work and escape the constant scrutiny of her family.
