Once your character is accepted to occultus, you are asked to remove the out of character and journal samples sections on the app. To make it easier, I have already done so in the following code - all you have to do is copy and paste your character's answers. Simple, yes?

TIMELINE

A basic timeline of events before the game leading up to the game's start of 31st October, 1998. Players can use this as a guide when applying for a character and writing their history. Most of the dates have been taken from the Harry Potter Lexicon and have just been modified to suit the game. If you wish to add an event or have a question, comment below and we'll get back to you ASAP.

1940's
1946 - The Knights of Walpurgis, a Pureblood supremest group, is formed and wins that year's Ministry elections by playing on the old Pureblood families' fear that Muggleborns will change their society and take it over for themselves. The first Minister for the Knights was Abraxas Malfoy, who led the country until his untimely death of dragon pox in the mid-seventies. He brought forth the Muggleborn Registration Act which still stands today. Early members of the Knights include Avery, Dolohov, Nott, Rosier and Mulciber.

1950's
1954 - Lucius Malfoy is born.

1958-59 - James Potter, Sirius Black, Remus Lupin, Peter Pettigrew, Lily Evans, Severus Snape and others in their year at school are born.

1960's
1969 - Molly Prewett and Arthur Weasley wed.

1970's
1970 - James Potter, Sirius Black, Remus Lupin, Peter Pettigrew, Lily Evans, Severus Snape and others start their first year at school. Bill Weasley is born.

1973 - Charlie Weasley and Nymphadora Tonks are born.

1974 - Sirius Black (age 15), disgusted by his parents support of the 'Riddle Regime', runs away from home and is blasted from the Black Family Tree.

1975 - Marcus Flint and Oliver Wood are born.

1976 - Abraxas Malfoy dies of dragon pox. There is a formal Ministry funeral attended by many of the Pureblood elite. Succeed by Cornelius Fudge as Minister - a bumbling fool who is easily bought by the Knights. Percy Weasley and Penelope Clearwater are born.

1978 - Fred Weasley, George Weasley, Alicia Spinnet, Adrian Pucey and Dominic Montague are born. Lily Evans and James Potter wed, Sirius Black acting as Best Man.

1979 - Katie Bell, Hermione Granger and Tiger-Lily Oswauld-Spinks are born.

1980's
1980 - Harry Potter, Ron Weasley, Neville Longbottom and others in their year at school are born.

1981 - Ginny Weasley, Luna Lovegood and Colin Creevey are born.

1982 - Astoria Greengrass is born.

1990's
1991 - Harry Potter, Hermione Granger, Ron Weasley, Draco Malfoy, Neville Longbottom and others start their first year at school. For the Muggleborns of Harry's year, it is the start of a reprieve from being treated differently as Albus Dumbledore did not tolerate prejudice in the school (that is not to say it didn't happen, of course - kids will bully one another).

1994 - Quidditch World Cup is hosted in the UK. Ireland wins but Viktor Krum (from Bulgaria) catches the Snitch. The Triwizard Tournament starts at Hogwarts. Beaubatons, Durmstrang and Hogwarts each have a champion. Cedric Diggory (from Hogwarts) is named the winner.

1995 - The Order of the Phoenix - a new group formed in oppose to the Knights - gathers strength with more Muggleborns, Half-bloods and even some Pureblood families seeking a Ministry reform and sick of the Knight's increasingly outlandish laws regarding Muggleborns. The latest sending in an 'enforcer' (Umbridge) into Hogwarts to tell Dumbledore how things should be run.

1996 - The sacking of Cornelius Fudge as Minister. He is replaced by Pius Thicknesse - the current Minister of Magic.

1997-98 - Harry Potter and the rest of his year's final year at school.

1998 - The Ministry decides, to boost moral and to ease the unrest developing within society between Purebloods and Muggleborn, to host a Halloween Festival in various wizarding locations across the UK. The Minister will be attending the one in the only all-wizarding village, Hogsmeade, which will be attacked by vigilantes against the Knight's Regime. This will start a chain of events that will lead to anyone affiliated with the Order of Phoenix to be branded a traitor and thrown in Azkaban for treason. Game starts 31st October, 1998.

INTERNSHIPS

Characters in their sixth or seventh years at Hogswarts are invited to partake in the Internship Program on offer. There are only three 'businesses' involved in the program so far: the Ministry of Magic, St. Mungo's and Gringotts. The internships available will give students the opportunity to explore what they want to do as a career as well as give players of student age characters some valuable game time outside of Hogwarts' walls.

The student characters can be supporters of either side (not members as neither side accept members under 17 years of age): Knights of Walpurgis (written in green), the Order of the Phoenix (in red). A majority, however, are neutral (purple).

Internships can last as little as a month or can be extended to two - three months depending on the employer. Students undertaking an internship will still be expected to attend school a few days a week to keep up with classes. But apart from those few days at school and their allotted time working in their internships, students will be allowed to explore the world however they wish. (Within reason, of course, there are some things that are still not open to those under the legal age in the wizarding world - 17 years).

There are only 40 internships available, so please read the list carefully if choosing one of the following as an internship for your character. We work on a first in gets the position policy with these but if your character misses out on one of the internships now, check back in a month or so when they may become available again.

ST. MUNGO'S

Healer Interns are basically there to observe. They are not allowed to assist in the actual healing of the patients but Healers will give them scenarios in which the Intern will have to solve and write a case study on. Most of the work in these internships is purely theoretical.

A more 'hands on' Internship can be found at Gringotts as Goblins feel that if the wizard or witch has working limbs they are good enough to be put to work. Guard Interns do several shifts of guard duty with a fully-fledged Guard before given something minor to guard on their own - usually the front door. Curse-Breaker Interns will be given a crash course in curse-breaking before being teamed up with a Curse-Breaker and assisting with minor curses on artifacts found in the UK.

The Ministry of Magic is the absolute power for the characters in this game. Most characters will hold positions within the Ministry, however, Muggleborns and Halfbloods are limited to to job titles they may hold. The higher ranked positions within the Ministry will be Knights of Walpurgis/Supporters (written in green), but there will be an odd few that are from the Order/support the Order (in red). A majority of Ministry workers, however, are neutral (purple).

There are only a set amount of positions available, so please read the list carefully if choosing a Ministry career for your character. Also, please be realistic when choosing a job - someone just out of school would NOT be the Head of a Department straight away. They'd have to train first which, like out in the real world, takes years. For example, Auror training goes for three years before a person becomes a fully fledged Auror.

Ministry of Magic

Located in London, the Ministry of Magic is the governing body that rules over everything in the Wizarding World. A majority of witches and wizards seek employment here but the current Ministry in power is heavily biased toward purebloods and the ways of old. Muggleborns will find it difficult to get a job there.

St. Mungo's

St. Mungo's Hospital for Magical Maladies and Injuries, the only known Wizarding hospital in Britain, is located in London and hidden from Muggle view by an abandoned department store. There are five levels to the hospital - the first four floors catering to various ailments while the fifth floor serves as a Visitor's Tearoom and Hospital Shop. Employment at the hospital is not a strict as the Ministry and Muggleborns find it easier to gain a job here.

Diagon Alley

The main source of shopping for all your Wizarding World needs in the heart of London, hidden behind the Leaky Cauldron. Inside the alley is an assortment of restaurants, shops, and other sights. All items on the Hogwarts supply list can be bought in Diagon Alley. The alley is completely hidden from the Muggle world which is right outside of its boundaries.

Hogsmeade

The only all-Wizarding village in all of Britain, located in the Scotland Highlands and home to Hogswarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. Never Never Land

Co-owned and founded by the Weasley Twins, Never Never Land is an underground night-club in the Docklands, London which is open to witches and wizards of all blood statuses. It also caters to Muggles - who enter the club and have a slight bewilderment charm placed on them so they think the magic of the place is fancy special effects. The Ministry don't know this place exists for obvious reasons.

MINISTRY LAWS

Just a list of laws passed by the Ministry since the Knights of Walpurgis come into power in 1946 - also known as the 'Knight's Regime'. Many Pureblood families think nothing of the laws and do not understand the full meaning of the laws unless it directly affects them. There are a few groups that go against the laws but none as influential or as well known as the Order of the Phoenix. As the game progresses more laws may be added to the list depending on the swing of power.

MUGGLEBORN REGISTRATION ACT

Passed in 1946, this act was one of the first passed in the 'Knight's Regime' and basically says that Muggleborns are to register like any other creature (eg Werewolf, Vampire, Animagus). Muggleborns have their own liaison at the Ministry like all other beings - but in a corrupt government they really don't have that much effect on Muggleborn Rights.

Also, in accordance to this act, Muggleborns no longer have the right to vote (just like any other creature, beast or being) and due to public opinion find it very hard to hold jobs other than what are considered beneath the Purebloods to do. However, they can gain employment in places such as St. Mungo's but it is highly unlikely to find them employed within the Ministry.

Any who don't register are sentenced to Azkaban - sentences usually lasting from 6 to 12 months (or until the Muggleborn cracks and registers). Further sentencing can apply if the Muggleborn still does not register. Maximum penalty is having their wand snapped and cast out of wizarding society

THE ANTI-TREASON ACT

This act has been in place for centuries but has only recently resurfaced due to the rising number of people opposing the Ministry and its laws. In accordance to this act, any member of society found opposing the Ministries laws in an attempt to usurp them will be trialled with treason. The maximum penalty for such a crime is 10 years in Azkaban.

The current Ministry, however, are abusing the act and the trials they hold for the vigilantes are extremely biased. Because the Knights fear loosing power to the Order they have made it so being a member of the Order is traitorous to the Ministry.

WORLD INFO

The basic concept of occultus is the question 'what if?' How would the removal of one character affect the lives of the rest of the characters we know and love?

In this world, Tom Riddle never existed. There was no Voldemort. No Death Eaters. And no Order of the Phoenix.

However, just because Voldemort didn't exist doesn't mean that the prejudice against Muggleborns is gone. A group made up of members from some of the old Pureblood families (ie: the ones who would be known as Death Eaters in the books) is currently in power at the Ministry, instilling fear of the Muggles and Muggleborns within society. This group are known as The Knights of Walpurgis and their current agenda is to remove the "Muggleborn Threat" from the wizarding world. But, the Knights know that killing people is generally frowned up in society so they came up with a plan to take over the Ministry and subtly nudge the Muggleborns "out the door", so to speak.

The Ministry in occultus is run very similar to how it was run in Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, where Muggleborns are forced to register like any other beast/being. Those who don't register are placed into Azkaban for six to twelve months (or until the Muggleborn cracks and registers). Any further refusal to register can have the Muggleborns wand snapped and them thrown out of the wizarding world.

Muggleborns that do register generally have no problem and can continue to live quite normal live in the wizarding world. However, due to the prejudice the Ministry has created against them, Muggleborns are not welcomed everywhere.

Muggleborns will find it very difficult to get a job in the Ministry because the Knights know that to keep power the public must remain blind to the prejudice against them. However, Muggleborns are generally free to get jobs in other industries (eg: St. Mungo's) they just won't hold high positions within them.

Most of the general public are unaware the prejudice even exists and think everything is all good with the world. But there is a group working with the Muggleborns to over throw the Knights and current Ministry and build a fairer society for all... this group, of course, is the Order of the Phoenix.

The game starts on 31st October, 1998 (31st Oct, 2011 - real time) with a Halloween Festival being held by the Ministry as a Charity Event to support the new Children's Ward at St. Mungo's Hospital. The event will be filled with Pureblood Supremacists and a group of vigilantes will use the event to try and assassinate the Minister - Pius Thicknesse.

The Order will be blamed despite having nothing to do with the assassination attempt. Giving the Knights the upper hand in public opinions and causing the Order to be branded as outlaws. Because of this, if a person is known to be a member, they are thrown into Azkaban for treason (an offense that carries a maximum sentence of 10 years). Hence the Order now have to work in secrecy if they want to take over the wizarding world and make it a better place.

occultus is a somewhat AU Trio Era Harry Potter game. There is no Tom Riddle/Voldemort. No Death Eaters. Harry was just an ordinary student at Hogwarts and now he, and the rest of his year have graduated and it's time for them to make a place for themselves in the big wide world.

However, not everything is all sunshine and rainbows. The current Ministry is run by the old Pureblood Families and the prejudices against Muggleborns still runs strong within it's walls. It's time for someone to make a stand against the Ministry.

RULES

DRAMA
occultus is a drama free game. We don't care what is happening in other games so don't be bringing it here - it won't be tolerated. We want this to be a fun place. The mods do reserve the right to reject applications on a case by case basis if the applicant has a history of drama, or makes a current player uncomfortable.

AGE LIMIT
occultus is an Adults Only game and therefore players have to be 18 years of age or older (or considered the legal age in their country).

This game will contain adult content (and no, not just of the smut variety). However, as mods, we have limits to what is acceptable. There will be no explicit content of any characters under the age of 17. Any scenes of rape, torture, incest or anything that could possibly seen as extremely objectionable must be cleared through the mods first. Even though the game and ooc journals have warning labels - please friends lock all posts with sexual or extremely violent content.

CHARACTERISATIONS
Firstly, no Mary Sues or Gary Stus or whatever you'd like to call them. We want well developed characters with flaws and strengths. Please be reasonable with your character's background. Not every character can have a horrible life story, nor can every character come from a perfect home life. Most characters will have a normal life, and while there will be circumstances that shape their personality, they won't all be dramatic, tragic figures.

Also, due to the number of canon characters available, no OCs will be accepted at this time. This ban on OCs may lift at a later date when the number of canons available becomes less and there aren't as many options. We feel as though there are plenty of characters to choose from with little to no backstory (that are just a name) that can be built up like an OC to really not warrant the need for them.

SHIPPING
We are open to all sorts of shipping here at occultus but please keep things realistic. A character is not suddenly going to go from 'lonely old man' to 'shagging everyone and their mother'. A family man strongly devoted to his wife is not going suddenly start dating the milkman. Yes, we are aware things like this happen but be reasonable - there has to be a reason for these actions, not just because the players want to write smut.

All ships must be cleared by all players involved. This means not just the two players who own the characters but other players too. We understand not everyone sails on the same ships so we feel it's only fair to discuss it with everyone. In saying that, if you aren't comfortable with a ship in play but it's not affecting any of your characters you have the option of just not reading those threads and ask for a summery of what went on without the shipping bits.

If the number of non-heterosexual characters becomes excessive, the mods reserve the rights to cap or limit them. No ships or explicit content will be allowed by any characters that are first cousins or more closely related.

PB CHOICES
Please keep PBs realistic and age appropriate. Due to legalities, no Suicide Girls/God Girls, Scene Kids or anyone not considered a public figure are allowed. Remember, your character is a witch/wizard, and isn't going to have the latest cool haircut or clothes, since the game is set in 1998.

ICONS
Icons must clearly show the face or a part of your character. No icons may be used that are of anything other than your PB, except owls or other pets (eg; Hermione's cat, Crookshanks) and in the rare case of Animagus, their animal form. However, the majority of your icons should be that of your PB.

Also, while moving icons are pretty, please keep these for your personal journals, all we need here is just a basic picture to show the mood of the character. This rule also goes for icons with a lot of writing on them. While yes, we agree, they can be funny and get the point across - words can detract from the actual PB. Besides, this isn't an contest for who has the prettiest icons - it's about the story, the writing of the game.

RESPECT AND COMMUNICATION
Everyone deserves respect and we ask you to give it to your fellow players. If you have problems, try to work them out or ask one of the mods for help. Don't just bitch about it behind their back - it just creates drama and that is the number one thing we don't want.

We are all here to have fun, but it is no fun being left out of the loop. Talk to one another. Use AIM, emails or the ooc community (occultus_ooc) to communicate. There is no rule stating that this game is a dictatorship so if you have an idea, share it - it doesn't matter if it involves your characters or not. However, please don't just assume the other player is willing to go with your plot idea - talk it out first.

Another thing, just because a player is absent for a few days doesn't mean the end of the world and that it gives you the right to assume what that other person's character is up to. THIS WILL BE CONSIDERED GOD-MODDING OR POWER-PLAYING AND CAN GET YOU BANNED.

This game is not the be all and end all. At the end of the day, it's just a game and real life should take a preference. If you are worried about not getting a response in a timely manner talk over AIM, emails or in the ooc community. Some people won't have as much time for the game as others and players should respect that of each other.

ACTIVITY RELATED

CHARACTER LIMITS
At the present the limit is five characters. This may increase as the game goes on but no player should take on more than they can reasonably handle. That being said it is also up to the moderators' discretion as to whether they feel you can handle more characters if you aren't maintaining activity regularly.

ACTIVITY
Players are required to do one thread and one journal entry per character every two weeks as well as check in for the Activity Check every second Sunday. Owls do count as a Thread as long as they have five or more responses.

Failing an Activity Check, you will be given a warning and one week to post what is required to keep up with activity as well as what is required to pass the following Activity Check. Failing two Activity Checks in a row (without notice to the mods or posting a hiatus notice in the ooc community) will result in your character being dropped for inactivity. If you have a problem, PLEASE come to the mods, we are willing to listen.

HIATUS
Hiatuses are available for up to 2 weeks. Longer hiatuses may be granted on a case by case basis. After 2 weeks, if a player has not contacted the mods or returned, the mods will contact them. If we do not receive a response in 72 hours, we will put the character up for recasting. Hiatuses of less than 3 days will not excuse you from activity check.

REALISM
This is a fantasy based RP, however we are not a "crack" RP. Please keep this in mind when creating your character or planning plot. Hermione isn't suddenly going to find out she's Draco's lost twin, and in the same token, Lucius isn't suddenly going to become a professional exploding snap player. Keep good storytelling in mind when you create your character.

THREAD/OWL/JOURNAL SPECIFICS

MAJOR PLOTS
Character deaths, pregnancies, and any other major plot that would affect more than 2-3 characters should be discussed with the mods and any player owning a character that this may affect.

JOURNALS
Journals were originally Ministry issue but have since been released to the public as a new source of communication and can be purchased from any bookstore in the magical world. They are magically linked together. Anything written in the journals that is not warded can be read by anyone.

GAME TIME
The game runs in "semi-real" time dating. For instance, April 1, 2011 in real life is April 1, 1998 in game. However, we understand not everyone is in the same timezone and can't post at the same time so backdated and future-dated threads are not something to shy away from.

That being said, any comments replied to a journal entry (no matter how many days after it is) are considered replied to the same day as the entry. This give players in different timezones the chance to respond to one another.

POSTING LENGTH
The opening post for any thread must be a minimum of 250-300 words, which is 3 good sized paragraphs. Exceptions will be made in the case of setting up for a large group thread (Party, Plot Event, Etc). Players should strive to make their ensuing tags at least two good paragraphs.

QUALITY vs. QUANTITY
Many games measure success on how many players or characters a game has. As moderators, our main measure of success for this game will be measured in the quality of the game and the enjoyment of our players. We strive to provide a fun game with an intriguing plot and an atmosphere that fosters creativity and excellence in writing and character development.

OPEN COMMUNICATION
The moderators believe open communication is the key to a successful game. No player will ever be punished or ostracized for approaching the moderators with a problem, nor will any confidential information brought to the moderator staff be shared without prior player permission. Our door is always open to discuss plot, problems or character development.

CREATIVE COOPERATION
This is not just our story to tell, but everyone in the game. We are open to any and all suggestions regarding plot development. While we have a general story arc planned for the game, we are also flexible and will follow the plot lines that are successful.

RESPECT & MATURITY
Every player at occultus is over 18, and as such we will treat you as adults. We expect every player in the game to behave as adults as well, by adhering to the rules. That doesn't mean we don't act silly sometimes, or we don't have a good time, but we fully expect that destructive immature behavior (godmodding, bullying, etc) will be kept out of the game. We ask that players respect each other as participants and writers.

FAQS

FIRSTLY, OCCULTUS - FUNNY WORD, WHAT DOES IT MEAN? occultus is Latin for "hidden, concealed, secretly". Given the nature of the game, appropriate, no?

WHAT YEAR IS OCCULTUS SET? occultus is set in 1998. It runs in "semi-real" time where 1st April, 2011 is the 1st April, 1998 in game. The "semi-real" part is because we at occultus understand that timezones can be a pain in the butt. Backdated and forward dated threads are not discouraged, however, keep in mind that a character who has a thread on say, Tuesday will not know what happens on Thursday unless they are a Seer. As Seers are rare, most won't be able to predict the future.

IS THE GAME EPILOGUE COMPLIANT? No, not at all. We really don't mind if Ron and Hermione don't end up together. Or if Ginny decides to be a career-minded single lawyer instead of a mother to Potter sprogs. The Game has nothing to do with the epilogue.

ARE OCs ALLOWED AT OCCULTUS? Sorry no, not at this present stage. We believe there are plenty of canon characters that have little to no backstory that they practically count as OCs.

HOW MUCH CANON IS CANON AT OCCULTUS? Just about everything. occultus is loosely canon based. It is a 'what if' scenario that explores the Harry Potter world if Tom Riddle didn't exist. For more information on this, please consult the timeline and the world info pages.

HOW MUCH CANON DO I HAVE TO USE FOR MY CHARACTER? Most of it. Given the AU nature of the game not everything is going to the same - after all, Harry grew up with both his parents still alive and there was no mad man hunting him down. However, characters are expected to keep the majority of their canon personalities (eg: Hermione's not going to suddenly join the Pureblood Traditionalists) and any variations from canon shouldn't be too outrageous (eg: Neville is NOT going to be Snape's long, lost son). Any major variations that affects more than one character need to be run by the mods and any player whose character is involved.

IF MY CHARACTER IS NOT MARRIED/IN A RELATIONSHIP WITH ANOTHER CHARACTER IN CANON CAN THEY BE HERE? Yes, but within reason. Both players must be agreeable to the pairing - we don't want people to feel forced into a pairing they don't want. This goes for any relationship in game - canon based or not. We are fairly open with shipping but we don't want anyone to feel uncomfortable so please be considerate of others. For more information on pairings, please consult the rules.

CAN MY CHARACTER BE A BEAST/BEING/ETC? You may create a character that is of a 'half-breed' or 'other being' nature. However keep in mind that werewolves, vampires and the like are on a registry at the Ministry. It is illegal for a werewolf to obtain wolfsbane or a vampire to obtain synthetic blood potions without being on the registry (however, they can obtain these things it's just more difficult). These people are looked down upon in society as a whole, for being less than human in nature. We also reserve the right to restrict the number of them in game.

CAN MY CHARACTER BE AN ANIMAGUS? Yes, if you think your character is talented enough to become an animagus. But not everyone can achieve it so we reserve the right to restrict the number of them in game. Characters such as Sirius Black and James Potter, who are animagi in canon will not affect any capping we take on animagi.

CAN MY CHARACTER BE A METAMORPHMAGUS? No, unfortunately. To be a metamorphmagus, you have to be born one and even then they are extremely rare. It is not a skill a character can learn. Nymphadora Tonks is the only known metamorphmagus in game from book canon.

MY CHARACTER IS NOT A PREFECT/HEAD BOY/HEAD GIRL/CAPTAIN IN THE BOOKS. CAN THEY BE IN THIS GAME? Certainly, as long as there is an open space for them to be (can't have two Head Boys from the same year running about - sorry). There is a list here of all the Head Boys, Head Girls, Prefects and Captains from the Trio's years at school plus the current year of game play. Other years may be added at a later date.

WHY IS COLIN CREEVEY ON THE CHARACTER LIST BUT NOT DENNIS? Nothing against Dennis, we are sure he is a lovely boy but seeing as though most of the game is set outside of Hogwarts the mods decided to exclude all characters who would be fifth year (in 1998) and younger from the game. This could be subject to change as the game goes on.

IF MOST OF THE GAME IS SET OUTSIDE OF HOGWARTS, WHY NOT EXCLUDE ALL STUDENTS? Players are encouraged to pick characters outside of Hogwarts but we realise not everyone wants to play a grown up. Students in 6th and 7th Years will have the opportunity to do some work experience outside of Hogwarts to help them in choosing a career. At present only three major businesses are offering the 'Internships' (as they are called) - The Ministry of Magic, St. Mungo's and Gringotts. Student players are encouraged to do an 'Internship' as it will give their character time outside of the school. For a full list of 'Interships' check out this list.

CHARACTER LIST

Below are all the characters available for application at occultus. We accept applications for all canon characters, if you do not see the character you want below, please ask. Please make sure you have read the rules.

Holds last for 4 days with a 2 day extension. If a further extension is required we will generally give one but only on a case-by-case basis (eg: if the character is in high demand, we probably won't give one). To place a hold, comment below with the name of the character you'd like to be held.

Challenges to holds are not accepted. But if you want to apply for a character who is held, you may let the mods know and if the current application is rejected or not received we will give you a hold.

OCs are not accepted at the present time as there are plenty of canon characters to chose from already. This rule may be subject to change in the future should there be a high demand for them and there is a significant number of canon characters taken.
