Personality: Love. Beauty. Intimacy. Wealth. Cecilia is a kind person, generous and good at heart. Her love for her family is never in question, her love for her children is never doubted. Outwardly, Cecilia is a beautiful, joyous, happy woman but inside she is serious, suffered, and ultimately sad woman. While Cecilia can be a dutiful, loving, and generous lover and a kind, understanding woman, she has her darker side. Cecilia, like many other of her kind, can have something of split personalities. She basis it on the fact that Ochun has many forms. Her different paths have created different identities within herself. Ibu Ikole, she is seen as the vulture and associated with witches -- her children that follow this path are usually later made into priest/priestess. Ibu Anya, is the youthful path; she dances, plays, enjoys life -- it's said that when she possesses one of her followers on this path, they dance, spinning until they forget their troubles, dance to forget that this world could be better then it is. Ibu Yumu, she is the eldest of the paths of Ochun -- an old woman that sits at the bottom of a river, knitting. There are dozens of paths and ways that Ochun takes form in her followers; she's a mother, wife, lover, warrior, queen. She is peacefull, loving, affectionate, and powerful.

General Deity History: Legends tell different stories of the beloved Oshun -- even her name can be something of an argument. In Africa she is best known as Oshun, in the Carribean islands of Cuba and Puerto Rico she is known as Ochun and in Brazil her name is Oxum. Regardless of where she is her spirit and essence remains constant; she is the goddess of love, intimacy, beauty, wealth, marriage, maternity and diplomacy. Different portions of her personality exemplify certain characteristics, when she feels a certain one of her paths* mounted different attributes become stronger and more prominent. Revered as Yeye -- the sweet mother of us all, Ochun, was subjugated by the male Irunmole because of her femaleness and she removed herself from the creation of the world. She drew herself away and only after Olodumare (the Supreme Being) begged Ochun to return was the creation of the world and everything in it finished -- but not until she bore a son, Elegba, an eternal trickster. In one of her many tales it is said that to feed her children Ochun became a prostitute, causing the other Orishas to look down upon her and take her children from her. She became so sad that she wore the same white dress everyday and it eventually turned yellow. While washing her dress by a river one day, another Orisha Aje-Shaluga fell in love with her and married her. He gave her money and gems and she was able to get her children back from the Orisha. Ochun had many husbands, Erinle, Oshosi, Orisha Oko, Aje-Shaluga, and Ogun; but her favorite of all her husbands was Chango. She in turn was Chango's favorite wife, she is an excellent cook and lover -- and mother to four of his children. Ochun is the "unseen mother present at every gathering," she is a force of harmony and love and her affinity to water makes her omnipresent and omnipotent. No one is an enemy to water and as such everyone respects and revers Ochun, as well as her daughters and sons.
