Ok, recently, in chat, I've seen a fair amount of 'want any of mine?' 'we ought to do something', etc. from a few people. There's plots being run, but not always for the characters right on our brains, so this is an attempt to start sparking some scene ideas. Just about all of mine are fair game. I'm stealing some ideas from other comms, used for similar purposes. So, here we go -

the rules:
1. Truth or Dare: Post a scene idea as a dare. It can be in-canon, or it can be AU.  You can challenge any of mine with any of yours. I can take the dare, or turn it down, by offering an honest in character answer to any question you want to ask. If I take the dare, you can set up the scene and we'll play through it.

2. Putting the 'R' in RP: So most of the time, rp comes down to casual social or big mod-run plots. This is neither, so let's spice it up. Your dare-scene challenge must involve either A. gratuitous violence, B. gratuitous nudity (I'm willing to play out sex scenes if they make sense, or hint at them) C. gratuitous crack. - because these aren't going through moderation, they can't really change anything, no new powers, no big item acquisitions, but gratuitous hero battles or villain of the week-ish stuff should be ok. Multiple choices from A, B and C are also possible.

3. Pay it Forward: As usual, if you take this challenge and post a scene idea, you also need to put this up in one of your journals, and offer some or all of yours up for scene challenges. Now the tricky part - if I take a dare, I will temp at least one of the npcs needed, if any are. I will not require you to NPC for me, no. Instead, you must temp at least one npc in any dares you take.
And, why yes, this is an effort to get people to temp occasional npcs for others in order to encourage rp. You have an easy out in any scenes you're truly not comfortable with - you can always take 'truth', and I may, not every scene will fit my characters or my fancy... but the idea is still to encourage rp, get people doing scenes and playing with characters, whether AU or our canon, and doing the little things to help get scenes going.

The Meeting [02 Dec 2010|11:01pm]
Donovan Burke rarely questions Frank Castle's motives or good sense; the man has lived through more scrapes in the last twenty years than most combat battalions do in their whole existence. But this meeting with Nick Fury sets off all the wrong bells and whistles in Burke's head. Frank respects this man, which should be enough for Donovan, but it's not. Not completely.

Burke remembers his dad telling him about meeting Nick Fury back in '79 during a SHIELD-US Marshals joint operation. Dad even thought highly of Nick Fury, but right now, Burke wasn't certain if Fury wouldn't just show up and try to shut him down. He didn't want a fight with any SHIELD agents, but he'd been down this road before...and he couldn't be certain that Girardson wasn't lurking in the shadows somewhere, even though he'd checked the surrounding two blocks twice before sundown.

Now, at 8pm Thursday evening, Burke parks his van three blocks away from the warehouse Fury agreed to meet in and hoofs it the rest of the way. Slipping in the back door, he checks the perimeter one more time to make sure that his escape routes are ready if he had to evacuate in a hurry. When he's satisfied that things are as ready as they can get, he pulls up two rolling desk chairs and sets them in a circle beneath an overhead light on the otherwise-vacant warehouse floor.

He takes a couple of deep breaths and makes comforts himself with the knowledge that he still has his guns.

And he waits.

Weaknesses and flaws:  Burke is a normal human being with all of the associated weaknesses. Donovan also takes great pains not to harm innocents during a mission, going so far as to abort a carefully planned kill if he can't be absolutely certain he can execute without taking an innocent life. This can be used against him, though Donovan has no qualms about kidnapping the wife, mother or father of a criminal in order to draw the person out. He simply won't subject them to questioning and such in order to get information.
Character location/Home: Mobile
Alignment (villain, hero etc): Anti-Hero
Relatives (living/dead?): Patrick Burke (Father, living) Jocelyn Burke (Mother, living) Ricky Burke (Brother, deceased)

Backstory:  Donovan Burke grew up on Chicago's South Side, amid the violence and gangs. His father was a Police Officer and later, a U.S. Marshal and Donovan grew up idolizing him and respecting the law. He joined the military at 18 and did three years in the United States Army as a Military Police Officer. At twenty-one, he joined the United States Marshals, working extensively in operations against gangs and organized crime. This culminates in a cooperative sting operation with the ATF against the Sons of the Loa street gang that saw the arrests and convictions of 49 people. This also led to the arrest of known Mafia operative Paolo Benetti, who was using the gang as enforcers and foot soldiers in a mob war and providing them various military-grade weapons.

Benetti is acquitted due to witness tampering as well as loss of evidence on the part of the Marshals and Burke is reprimanded for his actions during the operation, as he shot Benetti when he attempted to flee. Burke is enraged that his work is disregarded to give a criminal a free pass. Donovan spends the next few years in the Marshals keeping tabs on Benetti and furthering his education in night school,  becoming a Deputy Marshal at 24. His team catches Benetti again during a human-trafficking sting operation and arrests him again. His team is transporting the criminal to his arraignment hearing when Marshal Girardson betrays the team to the Mafia, as he's been in their pocket for years and was responsible for destroying the evidence that led to Benetti's first acquittal.

Girardson is shot and Benetti escapes as Burke's team is gunned down, along with  twenty-seven innocent people. Donovan would have died if not for the timely arrival of Frank Castle, who'd been tracking Benetti himself. The pair took down their opposition, killed Benetti and Donovan let Castle walk out of gratitude and respect. Donovan is released from the Marshals shortly after when his Captain pinned the fault for the leak and ambush on him and reported that he allowed Castle to escape.

Disgraced, Donovan fell into depression feeling that "super-heroes" and vigilantes had it easy, as they never had to answer to anyone for their actions. He decides to seek out Frank Castle and learn why he does what he does. After nearly getting himself killed a few times, Castle finally showed up and told him to leave, but Donovan offered to help him. Castle refused several times, but each time, Donovan located him after a a few months of digging. Finally, Donovan repaid the favor and saved Frank's life after he was wounded during an ambush and permanently disabled.

From that point forward, Frank took Burke under his wing and taught him what he'd need to wage a war on crime. Five years later, Burke began wearing the Death's Head. The only people aware that Castle is no longer active are Fury, Tony Stark, Daredevil and Logan, who each have an opinion on the new Punisher.

How do you plan to introduce the character to the game?: Donovan is still pursuing his old captain in between bouts of killing off any criminals he can find. He gets involved in helping Anya and Austin Caine deal with Austin's past.

What are you planning to do with this character?: Work as both an ally and antagonist to many street-level heroes in the Marvel Universe as the current Punisher. He may also run across S.H.I.E.L.D types as Nick Fury knows who Donovan is.

What do you want to see happen with this character?: I'd like to see the above happen, as well as move Donovan along his personal war on crime. I'd also like to have him catch up with his rogue team leader, who is now the head of the current "Punisher-Apprehension Task Force" created to bring him down.
