APPLICATION
name: Mike
played-by: Amanda Seyfried
aim: Flyspeck 42
age / birthday: 17 / 06 June 1925
current/former house: Slytherin

brief bio: The Hornby family rose to prominence in the wizarding world in the early years of the nineteenth century. Richard Hornby, a Muggleborn, made his fortune marketing specialty potion ingredients at reasonable prices. He married a halfblood, but his descendants have all secured pureblooded marriages, helping the family's rapid rise. Richard's grandson, Gabriel, further lined the Hornbys' Gringotts vault by acquiring a small cauldron maker and throwing money at it until one of its models was among the ten most popular cauldrons in Britain, ensuring a Hornby presence in the two key elements of the potions industry.

Olive Anne Hornby is the daughter of the family's current head, Robert, and his Bulstrode wife, Asteria. She is the middle child, having a brother on either side of her in age. Benjamin, at twenty-three, works in the cauldron division of the family business, while Daniel is two years behind Olive at Hogwarts. She has been horribly spoiled all her life, and, upon entering Hogwarts, assumed her position as queen bee of the "lower" social circles. In the highest society, the Hornbys are still no more than blips on the radar, usually invited to the social functions but also commonly disparaged as "new money" by firmly established families like the Blacks or Malfoys. Sharing a room with two Black girls does nothing to alleviate Olive's sense of frustration at the fact that she is only the best up to a point.

brief personality: Olive is, simply put, a bitch. She is manipulative and quick to lash out, and it is commonly said at Hogwarts that she has no real feelings, except perhaps anger or the occasional vague sense of amusement. Her main motive in life is to be better than everyone else, or at least to be viewed as such; her only real obstacle in this, thus far, has been girls from families to which hers can't compare. She is less intelligent than she is cunning, and she maintains better than average grades mostly through beguiling Ravenclaw boys into doing her work for her. Her "friends" tend to be better termed "lackeys", though she does maintain some close relationships.
