There was a flash of bright light and Svalin stepped out of the portal in New York near the Avengers mansion. She started looking around for a familiar face.

The trip to the Cave of Ages had been dangerous and long. Enemies had been on her heels the entire way and there were times when Svalin didn't think she would make it. Asgard was no more. The city had been destroyed in the attack and a few survivors had managed to escape the destruction. Svalin had managed to find them after she had crawled out from the rubble she had been trapped under. She was now on a quest to prevent the destruction of Asgard.

She stepped into the Cave of Ages. She emerged in the past before Asgard had been destroyed.

Svalin sat on the bed in the quarters assigned to her at the JLA headquarters and sharpened her sword. They had been here for about a week and she was getting antsy sitting around so much. Thought Jon was a nice distraction. Svalin's cheeks turned red at the thought of Jon.

The past week with Jon had been amazing. He was handsome, intelligent, kind, thoughtful and a great warrior. It was no wonder Svalin had liked him from the first instant when she literally fell into his arms. She had never felt this way about a man before.

It was not to last. Svalin knew she had to eventually return home, but she didn't want to go. She wanted more time with Jon.

A satisfied tiredness made her limbs feel heavy and a yawn escaped her. The day had been filled with training sessions and the night with a different type of physical exertion. One that put a satisfied smile on her face.

The rules:
1. Truth or Dare: Post a scene idea as a dare. It can be in-canon, or it can be AU. You can challenge any of mine with any of yours. I can take the dare, or turn it down, by offering an honest in character answer to any question you want to ask. If I take the dare, you can set up the scene and we'll play through it.

2. Putting the 'R' in RP: So most of the time, rp comes down to casual social or big mod-run plots. This is neither, so let's spice it up. Your dare-scene challenge must involve either A. gratuitous violence, B. gratuitous nudity (I'm willing to play out sex scenes if they make sense, or hint at them) C. gratuitous crack. - because these aren't going through moderation, they can't really change anything, no new powers, no big item acquisitions, but gratuitous hero battles or villain of the week-ish stuff should be ok. Multiple choices from A, B and C are also possible.

3. Pay it Forward: As usual, if you take this challenge and post a scene idea, you also need to put this up in one of your journals, and offer some or all of yours up for scene challenges. Now the tricky part - if I take a dare, I will temp at least one of the npcs needed, if any are. I will not require you to NPC for me, no. Instead, you must temp at least one npc in any dares you take.
And, why yes, this is an effort to get people to temp occasional npcs for others in order to encourage rp. You have an easy out in any scenes you're truly not comfortable with - you can always take 'truth', and I may, not every scene will fit my characters or my fancy... but the idea is still to encourage rp, get people doing scenes and playing with characters, whether AU or our canon, and doing the little things to help get scenes going.

Every Second of the Night I Live Another Life

Svalin moved quietly and cautiously through the skeletal trees. Soggy leaves barely moved under her feet and it helped silence her footsteps. Her sword was drawn and ready, but she couldn't see anything with this fog all around. Shadowy shapes moved through the fog, but they never drew close enough to see if they were friend or foe.

Svalin had charged after a few, but she never reached them.

Movement to the right caught her eye and she turned quickly. The dark shape lingered for a moment and retreated into the fog. Svalin gave chase. Her movements were slow and awkward due to the pregnancy and she couldn't move quick enough to catch the shadowy figures.

She growled in frustration and received an agreeing kick from the child inside of her.

The fog swirled and moved around her as watched for any shadows to appear.

Six years in the future

“Mother!” Solver yelled and ran across the great hall toward his mother. It was empty save for a few guards. The rest of Asgard was preparing to defend the realm from the enemies gathered outside the walls.

Svalin smiled when she saw her son and scooped him up into her arms when he reached her. She had come to check on Solver and Vernique. Her wife and son were the center of her world and she wanted to make sure they were safe before the battle started. “How fares thee, Solver?”

“I art well, Mother. I art ready for battle!” he said proudly. His small sword was clutched tightly in his right hand.

Svalin smiled. “Nay. Thou needest to see a few more summers before thou art ready for battle, mine son. Thy duty doth lie elsewhere today.”

“I art a warrior!”

“Thou wilt be a mighty warrior one day, mine son, but today thou must do thine duty and protect thine second mother.”

Solver frowned. “But I art a warrior!”

Svalin carried him over to the steps that lead up to Lord Odin’s throne. She sat down with ease despite the armor she wore and sat Solver on one of her legs. “We must all do our duty, Solver,” Svalin said gently. “Thy duty today ist to protect thine mother. Mine duty ist to lead the warriors of Asgard against the enemies of Asgard.”

“Who wilt protect you?” he asked.

Svalin smoothed some of his dark hair back out of his eyes. Like is grandmother Sif, Solver was one of the few Asgardians who had dark hair. It made him stand out and it made him special. Her son was special in so many ways. In him Asgard had a possible future.

“No one,” she said. “I doth not have a shield maiden to protect me.”

“Why not? Thou couldst get hurt or …” He couldn’t say the last part. He wrapped his arms tightly around her.

Svalin returned the hug. “Aye, I couldst and I wilt die someday, but it ist an honor to die in battle for the defense of Asgard. It ist our duty as Asgardians and as members of the royal family to protect the realm and all in it. With our lives if it ist necessary. It ist what being an Asgardian means, mine son. We put Asgard above all else and sacrifice all for Asgard. One day when the final battle cometh, we wilt leave all behind and die for Asgard. Doth thou understand?”

He nodded.

“Worry not, mine son. I doth not believe the Ragnarok comes this day,” she assured him. “But if the battle should not fare well for Asgard, thine mother and thee shall go to Migard. Thou wilt be safe with the Avengers. Doth thou understand?”

He nodded again.

“Good.” Svalin kissed his forehead. “I love thee, Solver. “

“I love thee, Mother.”

Svalin stood up, still holding Solver. “Let us go find thy mother. She doth need her warrior to protect her.”

"Aye," he said and held up his sword.

Svalin Thorsdottir stood outside the massive entrance to Lord Odin's (otherwise known as Grandfather) hall. She had been grooming Tryggvi when she had received the summons to appear before Lord Odin within an hour. It was unusual to be summoned like this, or at all for that matter.

What could Lord Odin possibly want? Perhaps it was some sort of quest or maybe it was to help defend the Golden Realm. No matter what it could be, Svalin answered the summons and now stood at the base of the stairs leading up to the entrance to the hall.

She'd never admit it of course, but she was a little nervous.

Abilities (Standard Asgardian ability set):
Super Strength: Svalin is slightly stronger than most Asgardian women. She can press/lift up to around 35 tons.

Superhuman Stamina: Like all Asgardians, Svalin’s muscles produce considerably less fatigue toxins during physical activity than those of humans allowing her to operate at peak levels for longer periods of time.

Superhuman Durability: The tissues of Svalin's body are also considerably harder and more resistant to injury than those of a human. She is immune to all known diseases, and resistant to most poisons.

Superhuman Longevity: Svalin, like all other Asgardians, isn't immortal in the same sense some other god pantheons. Svalin ages at a pace far slower than a human being. The consumption of the Golden Apples of the goddess Idun is essential to an Asgardian maintaining their physical vigor, though Svalin has not yet had to ingest any of the apples so far due to her young age.

Regenerative Healing Factor: Despite her high resistance to injury, it is possible to injure Svalin. If injured, her body is capable of repairing damaged tissue with much greater speed and efficiency than the body of a human being. Serious injuries such as missing limbs can only be healed by magical means.

Superhumanly Dense Tissue: As with all Asgardians, Svalin's skin, muscle, and bone tissues have 3 times the density of the same tissue in the body of a human being, contributing somewhat to her superhuman strength and weight.

Exceptionaly Strong Will The Aesir are gods, and possess much greater than human will, being resistant to most manner of possession, mind control and similar effects.

Aesir: Svalin can speak English, German and a number of the languages of northern Europe, but is primarily fluent in the language of the Norse gods. When she speaks, all listeners understand what she's saying in an archaic version of their own native language, hence the Norse gods speaking middle English.

Magic Spells: The majority of the Asgardians all have some potential to practice magic, mostly but not limited to changing their appearances, transforming matter and wielding cosmic, elemental and paranormal energies. Svalin has the ability to cast illusions, but nothing more than creating minor illusions that only affects sight, not the other senses. She has also been able to heal minor wounds in others, but this has been subconscious so far.

Other Abilities:
Weapons Mastery: Svalin is a formidable combatant and has received extensive training in unarmed combat and extensive training with swords, staffs, bow and arrow and a wide variety of other weapons. Her fighting ability is close to her mother’s, who is the second best female warrior in Asgard, but does not yet match Brunhild’s fighting abilities.

Svalin is also trained in brawling, wrestling and combat techniques.

Horsemanship - From her training with the Valkyries, Svalin is an expert horsewoman.

Death sight Svalin is endowed with the Valkyries’ power to perceive and sense the coming of Death. As such, Svalin could perceive a "deathglow" surrounding a person in serious danger of dying, a dark cloud or graphic visual image over people who were in mortal peril.

Weaknesses and Flaws: Stubborn, quick to anger, Cultural unfamiliarity, immortal enemies and powerful ones, vulnerability to non-fatal curses. Svalin does not have much of a sense of humor.

Equipment: Svalin carries a standard Asgardian broadsword and shield. These are non magical, but they are stronger and more durable than Earth made weapons.

Svalin will be gaining a special sword and shield in game after she proves herself worthy and goes on a quest to gather the items needed to create the sword and shield.

Gunnlogi (War-flame, Battle-blaze) – Is an uru sword crafted by the dwarves who crafted Mjolnir. The sword looks and functions like a regular broadsword, but it also has magical enchantments on it that allow it to absorb energy (electrical, magical, cosmic, etc) and redirect it back at a target. The sword is magically bound to Svalin and cannot be used to redirect energy by anyone else save for Svalin. Otherwise it acts as a normal sword. Since it is made of uru it can cut through anything except pure adamantium.

Bryndis (strong armored) Is an uru shield crafted by the dwarves who crafted Mjolnir. The shield looks like a typical Asgardian shield and can be used by anyone, but when used by Svalin, it creates a magical force field around her entire body that will negate almost all magical attacks. Otherwise she uses it like a normal shield to deflect physical blows. The force field dissipates if Svalin drops the shield or if it is removed by her hands by some means.

History
Svalin is one of seven children born to Thor and his two wives. Svalin and her twin are the only children of Sif and Thor and her other five siblings are the children of Thor and Einmyria. Sif and Einmyria became pregnant around the same time, which led to two sets of twins being born in the same hour.

Svalin and her sister Aslief were born at the exact same time and it is unclear who the heir is. Svalin of course believes she is the oldest and is her father's heir. Though Aslief disagrees, which has created rivalry between the two sisters.

Believing she is her father's heir put her on the path to becoming a shield-maiden of Asgard like both of her mothers. She has spent almost every waking moment learning how to use weapons.

Her training started when she was five and she was trained alongside her siblings until they turned fifteen. They were taught by the various warriors of Asgard including the Warriors Three, Brunhild, Sif and Thor. They were schooled in the use of every weapon available to an Asgardian warrior. These included swords, staffs, bow and arrow, staves, knives, axes and warhammers. Svalin favored the sword and it is the weapon she has the most proficiency in.

When they were not in “school” the three, Svalin, Aridis and Halbjorn, would be off having adventures while Aslief elected to remain behind and study magic. There were times they would get in over their heads, but working together they usually got out of whatever situation they were in. There were times when outside adult help had been required and on more than one occasion they had spent time facing the consequences of their actions in punishments.

Her mother Einmyria tried to teach her minor magic, but the most Svalin has been able to do is create minor illusions. She can heal minor wounds in other people, but this has been a subconscious effort and has proven inconsistent so far.

The next step in her shield-maiden training consisted of training with the Valkyries. Halbjorn continued to study warcraft and Aridis and Aslief studied magic. Svalin has spent the last ten years training with the elite group of female warriors.

She has been given a yearling colt of the Valkyries’ flying horses and is in the process of bonding with Tryggvi. In two years she will be able to ride him.

How do you plan to introduce the character to the game?: Svalin and her siblings are sent to Migard (Earth) to learn what it means to be a true hero and to fulfill a prophecy.

What are you planning to do with this character? What do you want to see happen with this character?: Svalin and her siblings will first start with the Avengers and eventually form a team based out of LA and call themselves the Defenders. They have their own immortal and very strong enemies. They will also be helping out the Avengers when necessary. She will have a quest or two to acquire her sword and armor.
