katniss is a total bitch but she's supposed to be. think of all that she's been through, the life they live in district 12 and panem in general and what she's faced with every day. she's selfish and selfless all at the same time but she's also only 16. i can see how she rubs people the wrong way but i could never hate her considering for the demographic the hunger games is aimed toward she's a very impressive female lead being strong, independent, a caretaker instead of a damsel in distress, and she doesn't place romantic love as a priority

ia and they don't gloss over her shortcomings, haymitch flat out tells her she's prickly and hard to like and katniss knows them too so i think it's realistic she's not perfect

i prefer jane eyre and lisbeth salander and not just because of the american version/rooney mara, i wouldn't say lisbeth is a feminist icon like some people are but she's amazing with all of her flaws and her insanity plus she's really intelligent

i like lisbeth but i don't like how all of her strength depends on how men treat her. i know that's the point of the books, but i have trouble seeing her as an icon or admirable when the entire series uses men to tear her down just to make her strong. why couldn't she be strong as an individual outside of male dominated abuse

as badly written and unoriginal as people claim the hunger games to be (and i'm not denying that they're not literary masterpieces) i respect the author for creating a lead that isn't dependent on her boyfriend and actually has flaws, it was refreshing and i think that's part of the reason i liked it. peeta was actually the weak one because his superpower is frosting and he's all moon eyes while katniss is like >:( fucking bitches messing with my shit

the things about gale and katniss is that their circumstances changed everything and i think had they not been through everything that they had, forced to do things normal people are never faced with, they would have been good together and it's hard not to be a little sad for them because they lost everything that had together including their friendship

i just hate gale because from the moment she gets back he's pressuring her to feel certain ways about what she's been through and it annoyed me. i know he went through something terrible with leading district twelve out of the destruction but i hated how he thought he had the right to dictate how she should react and feel about the rebellion and the fact that she had unintentionally become the symbol of it when the only thing she wanted to do was protect her family, which was precisely what he was pushing her to risk
