in my experience if you call somebody by name they usually respond to you in the chats and i've had a lot of great convos that way which, yes, can get a bit messy because everyone's talking at once but it's fun and if i weren't having fun i wouldn't be in there, so idk what this ignoring business is about but you can't expect to make a few off-handed comments and be responded to every time
