Dear Santa [12 Nov 2009|05:21pm]
Dear Santa,

As always I am writing this to make Zoey happy.

Please bring good health and happiness for Zoey, Bryn and the rest of the Defenders. Simon could use a little extra happiness.
Please give Bryn a steady acting job or give her a big break.
And if you have to bring me something, Dwayne Johnson would be a really nice gift. If he happens to be wrapped in a bow, I wouldn't complain.
A week without chaos would be nice if Dwayne Johnson isn't feasible.

Thank you,
Sydney Ashcroft

Sydney Lauren Ashcroft was born to Jake and Charlotte Ashcroft four years after her sister Bryn.  Sydney had a normal childhood, growing up with her sister and parents.  The family travelled frequently and the two girls learned much of the world and different cultures.

With her mutant gifts, she excelled at school and learned at an accelerated pace.   She loved reading and the challenge of learning new languages.

Her father was a history professor at UC Berkeley and Sydney frequently went to work with her father, spending many hours sitting in his office or in his classes.  This time with her father helped her develop a love of history and inspired her to study to become a history professor.  However, her parents were killed in a car accident while she was a sophomore in college.  The tragic event caused her to withdraw from school and led to a period of reckless behavior.

It was during this time that she became pregnant and gave birth to a girl, Zoey.  With no money of her own and being a single parent, Sydney was unable to return to school.  She took part time jobs waitressing and as working as a research assistant to an old colleague of her father’s while trying to raise her daughter Zoey.  Her sister Bryn helped in the form of being a babysitter while Sydney was working.

With her gift of languages and ability to learn new ones fairly quickly and easily, Sydney eventually started working freelance in translation services.   She has worked for a wide variety of clients from book publishers to a few freelance jobs for Stark Inc.

Sample post:

“Mom! Come watch the movie with me!”

Sydney Ashcoft paused in her work and looked away from the computer screen and over at her five year old daughter.   She automatically smiled when she looked at Zoey. “In a few moments, sweetheart. I’m just finishing up a few things and then I’ll be done for the day.”

“You promised!” Zoey reminded her mother.

“I know and I will be over there to watch Beauty and the Beast with you.  It’s my favorite movie and I wouldn’t miss it for the world.”

“Can we have popcorn?”

Sydney smiled again. “Of course.  We can’t watch a movie without popcorn.  I think we may have some root beer and ice cream in there for root beer floats.”

“Ooooooooh! Yay!”

Sydney laughed. “Popcorn and root beer floats it is. But I need five minutes to get this done, okay?”

“Okay, Mommy.”

Syd turned to face the computer. Just five more minutes and she’d be done translating this manual into Japanese from English.  Then she could spend some time with her daughter.
