The Dinkie Dino (aka Rakurakudinokun) is a generic virtual pet that was out on the market shortly after Tamagotchis first appeared. It has a bunch of cute dinosaur characters. Game play is a little different. All of the icons go up and down the side instead of across the bottom and top. The Pixels are also a tad bigger. It also has more buttons that do different things. Depending on what you feed it, it will follow a different growth pattern (carnivore, omnivore, and herbavore I presume). It is widely considered to be one of the best non-Tamagotchi virtual pets ever made because it didn't just copy the Tamagotchi but seemed to take a whole new approach. Some unique features of the Dinkie Dino include: air conditioning, school, and paper-rock-scissors. I give this Virtual pet a 9.5 out of 10 for having cute characters, a cute shell design, awesome features and unique navigation. The only thing that is lacking is a pause feature, because if you accidentally forget to give it a shot it will die kind of easily. It is not a difficult pet to care for other than that, though.

There are quite a few Dinkie Dinos available on eBay right now running in the $50-70 price range, which is kinda high considering they aren't terribly rare (I've always seen Dinkie Dinos on eBay so its not like they are a chance occurrence). Be careful when buying from eBay because there are a lot of fake Dinkie Dinos. You can tell they are fake because their screens are noticeably smaller. If it doesn't have a nice wide screen then it is probably not the one you want. It's hard to tell because they come in exactly the same package. And whatever you do, avoid the ones that say "49 in 1". They are not Dinkie Dinos. Just crummy 49 in 1s with lousy options.

This virtual pet came out around the time of the first generation tamagotchis. It is also by Bandai. It is a fighting Tamagotchi and connects manually to other digimons to gain fighting power. There is also a show called Digimon which has the same characters as this virtual pet and was based on the virtual pet! I managed to get two around the time the vintage virtual pets were going out of style, but now they are very rare. I give this virtual pet an 8 out of 10 for having a unique connection concept and cute characters, but other than that its not too much more of an interesting pet than a regular vintage Tamagotchi and it doesn't have a "pause" feature, so I would not suggest that it is a "must have" for one's collection unless you're just really into Digimon :)

About a year after these came out I got two of them for my birthday and they were only $5 because they were on sale. Now they are super expensive. Not entirely certain why, but recently Digimons have shot up in price drastically. The Japanese ones run in the $60-80 range, and the American versions run in the $100-270 range. There are actually tons more Digimon available on eBay than at any other time I've seen them, so I do not understand why the price is so high :/ Make sure you know what you're doing before buying these virtual pets.

Don't let the size of this picture fool you. The Dekatama is huge! It is about 4 times bigger than a regular Tamagotchi and has a huge screen and way bigger pixels. What's the point? Well, it's not meant to be played with like a regular Tamagotchi. It's actually meant to be used with the Akai and Ketai Tamagotchis (cell phone Tamagotchis). You can use this thing to rack up TONS of points really fast to be transferred over to your Keitai or Akai. There's also a cute character on it that you can buy furniture and a house and other items for. It's pretty interesting to say the least. It's also a little difficult to use because it is a Japanese Tamagotchi so everything is in Japanese. You need detailed instructions to figure this thing out. It's so big that it has a stand to hold it up and has a switch to turn the sound on and off. I rarely play with it, but I think it's worth having if you have a Keitai or Akai. NOTE: It does not connect to cell phones even though it has an antenna, oddly enough.

This Deka (also known as the "Home" Deka) is basically a smaller version of the giant Deka tamagotchis that could be found in Japanese malls when the Connections first came out. Basically you could go to the mall and connect your Tamagotchi to this giant Tamagotchi to get all kinds of items. The mall edition is much much bigger and is probably one of the most rare Tamagotchis. I have seen it sold on eBay only a few times and it was hundreds of dollars! So you are better off with a cheaper Home Deka

I bought mine together with an Akai for a total of $150, but you can buy a Deka separate for about $40-50 right now. Right now I see one available for $16 with $12 shipping. There is usually always one or two that can be found online somewhere for sale at any given moment :)

The Angel Tamagotchi is one of the easier Tamas to take care of. It is said that it was made for all the children who were sad after their regular Tamagotchis died. They decided to make another version with the angel version so that the kids wouldn't feel bad. When you are done taking care of this Tamagotchi it goes back to heaven. It also has a sound and touch screen feature. Sometimes when your angel is eating a snack, a bat will come and try to steal the candy. If you tap the screen the bat will be scared away. If you do not tap the screen in time the bat will steal the candy and the training meter will go down. Tapping the screen also serves to train your angel by bringing your angel back when it decides to go on a walk and disappears from the screen or when it appears disoriented with stars floating around it. I give this Tamagotchi a 10 out of ten because it was way ahead of its time with the touch screen functions and its characters are some of the cutest, as well as having an awesomely cute shell design with cute colors, and being easy to take care of! Apparently, Bandai also made two versions of the pearl white Japanese Tamagotchi angel. The two versions vary in that one is a slightly golden tint, while the other is more of a pure white color. The Golden tinted Japanese Angelgotchi has icons similar to the American version, whereas the white tinted Japanese Angelgotchi has the same icons as both the Pink and Blue versions, which are all similar to the original P1 and P2 Tamagotchis, except in a different order. The gold tinted version has a butt with wings for the toilet icon, and the white tinted version has a picture of a duck for the toilet. The American version has the same icons as the gold tinted angel except that the butt with wings has been replaced with a toilet paper roll, which is much cuter in my opinion. The butt with wings icon can also be found as a toilet icon on the Devilgotchi.

Here are two pets that do not have packages. The white one I bought used on ebay without a package for about $10, and the other one is a damaged pink version that I accidentally broke a long time ago. It was the European version.

Japanese Tamagotchi angels are currently running for around $30-40ish. Apparently an American Angel has become super rare or special for some reason, so they are running higher in the $80-200 range (I think $200 is kind of ridiculous...). The European angels are a bit more rare so they go for around $100-200 as well. I was lucky enough to get my European angels for $20 each :) At this point, if you don't want to spend a ton of money, I would buy a Japanese one. They are just as cute and function exactly the same, even have a couple of extra characters. They are just in Japanese. If you are familiar with how Tamagotchis work, they are not difficult to navigate.

The Akai is a special edition of the Keitai. The Ketaitama is the second edition of the original Japanese Tamagotchi Connection. The Keitais have antennas so they can connect to Japanese cell phones, and the American v3 shell+antenna is based on this Japanese design. The difference between the Akai and the Keitai is that the Akai has red pixels, red themed characters and red themed food. The red pixels make it a little difficult to see the action on the screen, but I have to say that this is one of my all time favorite tamagotchis! You input codes to get items. You don't need an interactive website with games to input the codes either. Just find the code chart some where online and you're set for codes! There are a few different secret characters too. Unlike other tamas, your characters get to keep the food and items they buy forever.



Unlike the American v2, it does not have a shop, but a salesman that comes to visit 3 times a day to sell you items. You can choose whether or not to buy them. If you buy them the salesman is happy. If you decline his offers he gets sulky and walks away sadly.Another feature I really enjoy is the alter feature. When your tamagotchi dies and you start it over by pressing a and c buttons simaltaneously, there is a record kept of the previous tama. Go to the list (it's in japanese) that shows the list of dead tamagotchis. There you can select a tamagotchi to pray too. When your character prays to the dead tamagotchi, it is safer in the future. If the grim reaper tries to get your current character, all you have to do is quickly go back to the list and select the character your current one prayed to. The old dead character will come back to life and save your Tamagotchi from the grim reaper! Also if you donate enough points to the king you will get a lucky Unchi-kun to clean up your characters poop. It's pretty funny. I give this Tamagotchi a 9 out of 10 for having so many new, awesome features, but I only wish the pixels had been more visible.

I bought the Akai and Deka Tama together for about $150. Normally I would not buy something so expensive but it was an auction and it's hard to let things go when you get outbid XD Right now I am seeing an Akai on sale on eBay for $32+shipping, and a regular keitai (black pixels) for $15+shipping, but the prices may range. Anyway, i don't do auctions anymore. Only Buy It Now, so that I don't feel compelled to overspend lol So here's a tip. Unless it is a super RARE Tamagotchi, chances are it is overpriced if it is for over $60.

This is a multi-pet. Meaning you can choose from 9 different animals to play with. Each animal has a different growth process and eats a different food. The games they play are all the same though and every other feature is the same as well, no matter which character you choose. I liked the fact that this virtual pet had an alarm clock on it. Also, if you hold down all three buttons you can see a history of all the animals you have ever raised and what age they passed away at. Very interesting. It also has a sleep meter. It actually fills up depending on how much sleep the animal gets. You can put the animal to bed anytime. It mostly goes to sleep at night though. The Beeping is very light and not as annoying as most virtual pets. The screen is big too. An odd thing about this pet is that instead of showing poops and sickness skulls next to the animal, it instead shows little icons up and down the sides to alert you. I enjoy this one a lot! I give it a 9 out of ten based on features and options. I think they could have designed the shell a bit cuter, though.

I think I may have purchased this one online for about $10 a long, long time ago. I just recently bought another blue one for $25. At one point I saw these pets selling for $40 and they are also rare, so I wouldn't count on seeing them on eBay often. I would say anything around $30 or less is appropriate. Get them now because they are going up in value.

Just like the Gyaoppi, this one has multiple pets in 1 that you can choose from. Only this time it's 8 instead of 9. This one plays a lot of music for some reason. Like when you play a game or take it for a walk. It's one of the first virtual pets I've ever owned and I have to say it's definitely the most unique! While I think somethings could be improved on, it's a pretty good multi-pet. I give it a 7 out of 10 on a scale of 1-10. Don't let the name fool you though. It is actually nothing like the gyaoppi and has very different navigations and interface. There are actual different 8 in 1's made with different characters, different animations and different shell designs. Some are called "octopets" or other similar names that imply more than one pet.

When I first purchased one of these at a department store about over a decade ago, they ran for about $12. I am seeing many of the on eBay going for about $10-15+plus shipping which usually ranges from $5-10.
