War of the Worlds (DCNG whole game plot)

1) Having planted a device on Earth during the last Invasion, the Dominators activate it, using it to bypass any of Earth’s early warning system and defenses, launching a new invasion that takes everyone complete by surprise and allows them key offensive positions around the globe.

2) Various battles against the alien invaders around the world by the various groups and individuals. These can be won or lost depending upon consensus within the groups. I’d like to possibly think of each of these as a mini-plot. Victories here are actually to be expected and wanted, though losses of various types (stop the main threat, but fail to prevent the theft, or even outright failure) work too.

These are only examples/suggestions and can be modified as necessary.

a) JSA vs. Khunds in Washington, DC.

b) Teen Titans vs. the Gil Dishpan in Atlantis.

c) Shadowback vs. Gemworld natives in England

d) Titans East vs. the Reach in Egypt

e) Doom Patrol repels a Coluan attack on Cadmus

f) Outsiders vs. Man-Hawks attempting to steal a nuclear arsenal

g) Suicide Squad vs. Predators (they’ve fought Superman, Batman, and the JLA. They’re part of DC continuity) in the South American jungle

h) BoP vs. Sklarkan (DC’s stock female space pirate race) doing tech thefts in Gotham

i) YJLA vs. Vega-System races in Metropolis

j) Individuals and other team-ups across the globe as wanted

k) Possible scenes with the villains fighting back too.

3) Meanwhile, the Darkstars liberate prisoners from a Dominator laboratory world and discover news of the invasion. They race off to Earth.

4) A group of heavy hitters of the heroes (Jon Kent, J’anna, the Lanterns, Fate, Firestorm, etc) go after the Dominator fleet in orbit around the planet. The other heroes on Earth keep up the fight against the remaining forces.

a) In the middle of the fight, the Darkstars arrive to assist with Aleron, Katima, and Mari joining the fight in space and Cyrus and Aleea running support from the ship.

b) This seems to be going entirely too well, until…

5) The Dominators sacrifice one of their own ships, detonating it and their new Gene Bomb. Being too close to the explosion, the heavy hitters are taken out and are captured.

a) Less erratic than the last Gene Bomb, instead of making powers go haywire, this one simply suppresses Metahuman ability, leaving only those with alien genetics (Varon, any of the Kryptonians, Jenn, Hope, etc.), magical abilities (the Shadowpact, Lily, the Hawk-Dove types), cybernetics (Traya, technically), or equipment users (Dinah and Riley, for example) as “powered.”

b) The Dominators pull out, but leave the other invaders behind.

6) Aleea and Cyrus gather up some of the remaining heroes (I’m thinking Batman, the Hawks, etc) to stage an attack on the Dominators homeworld, breaking into their primary lab to free the prisoners. With the heavy hitters back on their side, they force the Dominators into giving them the antidote to the Gene Bomb.

a) On Earth, the remaining heroes, “powered” and “depowered” have various fights which lead to the defeat of the rest of the invaders, with the help of Earth’s military, the remaining “powered” villains, etc.

7) The space group returns and uses the antidote.

“Stagg! Get your wrinkled ass down here!”

Metamorpho’s voice boomed through the Stagg Industries factory that he knew Simon Stagg, his one-time father-in-law, was at today. The world was going to hell in a handbasket, and if that didn’t make a man angry enough, it made the things which were already making him angry even worse. Keeping Sapphire from him. Poisoning his own son against him. It was high time he and the old man had it out, once and for all.

“Vulgar as ever, I see, Mason,” Stagg said, stepping into view. Around him, various vats of chemicals bubbled and stewed. He paused to pick a piece of lint off his collar. “What can I do for you?”

“You can tell me where my son is! You can tell me where Sapphire is! You can wipe that smug grin off your damned face!”

Stagg shook his head. “Honestly, Mason. An attitude like that, is it any wonder I sought to protect my daughter from your influence? You may have fooled her with sweet words, but I’ve always known you for what you are. And your son? Didn’t your freak genes do enough to him?”

Rex Mason growled, forming his hand into a hammer as he approached Stagg. “My influence? All the crooked schemes you’ve pulled over the years, all the times you’ve flat out tried to kill me, and you’re talking about my influence? You’re not keeping me from them, Stagg. If the world’s going down the drain, I’m gonna stand with my family.”

He suddenly felt his body weaken and he sunk to his knees, gritting his teeth against the pain. “What the hell…?”

“I got him, Mister Stagg! I got him!” It was the grunting voice of Java the caveman. Metamorpho forced his eyes open and watched Stagg’s anthropoid bodyguard move into view, carrying the Orb of Ra. His one true weakness.

“Playing dirty again, Stagg?” Rex growled. He was weak, but he tried to force himself to stand. “Even that’s… not gonna save you today…”

A hairy first slammed into his jaw. “Shut up, Mason! You don’t talk that way to Mister Stagg!

“As always, Mason,” Stagg went on, “you fail to see that I hold all the cards. You’ve never been able to outsmart me. Your type never has.”

Stagg shook his head again. “As for your son, the truth of it is, Mason, I don’t know. He’s fallen in with those so-called costumed do-gooders. Meddlers, the lot of them. He won’t tell me more. I don’t know where I went wrong. He takes after you more than he’d care to admit. So you see, Mason? You were wasting your time from the beginning.”

Rex growled and forced himself to fight the pain, reached out and grabbed Java. With a roar, he threw the caveman against one of the vat’s. A spider-web of cracks began to form, leaking green liquid. At the same time, Stagg called out, “Mason! Don’t!”

“You fool!” Stagg gasped. “Don’t you realize what you’re done?!”

Metamorpho growled. “Aw, am I gonna dirty up your precious factory, Stagg?”

Even Java was backing away from the chemicals now, and Metamorpho wouldn’t have thought he was smart enough for that. “What the hell were you cooking up here, Stagg?” he demanded.

Stagg had moved to a control console, trying to restore order to the factory, but the vat was already cracking too much for that. And the only way out had already been cut off by the creeping chemicals, which were bubbling and eating away at everything they touched.

Stagg’s eyes widened and Mason could swear he could see the old man’s heart pounding in his chest. “Stagg!” he shouted, in-between trying to spray down the chemicals. “What did you do?!”

Stagg clutched at his chest. He spoke a single word. “Chemo.”

“WHAT?!” Mason roared. “You were trying to put that walking freakshow back together?!”

“Do you have any idea what people would pay for a weapon like that, Mason?”

“You’re sick, Stagg! Sick!”

The pool of chemicals, Chemo, surged up like a wave. Metamorpho looked back at Stagg and Java. “I should just leave you two here. But then somebody’s still have to clean up the mess you made.”

He charged forward into Chemo, shifting his molecular structure as he did so. This had better work… he thought. He’d fought Chemo before, knew the creature’s weaknesses. But had Stagg changed it? Guess I won’t be getting to see you after all, Joey, Sapphire. See you the next time I come back to life…

The second his altered structure hit the wall of chemicals, it was consumed by them, flowing throughout the entire mixture. The wall of Chemo surged backwards for a second then seemed to scream, breaking apart into more harmless components.

Stagg straightened his collar. “Get someone to clear up this mess,” he growled to Java. “But first get me someone to doctor the security footage. …And find my grandson.”

Kobra

The Cult of Kobra is an international terrorist organization/cult, which worships the Kali Yuga (the Age of Chaos). To this extent, they have manipulated both Jeffery and Jason Burr, a pair of conjoined twins with a psychic link into serving as their leader as different times, frequently bringing them into conflict with Earth’s super-heroes, including Batman, Wally West, the JSA, Aquaman, the original Outsiders, and the Suicide Squad.

Eventually, both Burr brothers were killed and the organization fell into disarray and was not heard from for many years.

Recently, however, a man calling himself the Serpent Supreme has seized control of the organization, rallying it around the belief that the next Naga-Naga was to be born soon, and that they could make this infant into their new leader.

Kobra, unlike other terrorist organizations, is not after money or power, but to create chaos and destruction, to remake the world anew for a new age.

The Serpent Supreme

His face hidden being a reflective faceplate, the identity of the Serpent Supreme is unknown. Though his voice is high and shrill, and he tends to extend his s sounds when he speaks, he is a powerful and charismatic leader, utterly devoted to the coming Kali Yuga.

The Supreme Serpent is a skilled leader of men and designer of weapons.

The Iron General

Wearing a metal helmet around his head, the Iron General controls the military portion of Kobra, overseeing the training and instruction of the many Kobra Cultists. A refined gentleman of European ancestry, he can sometimes be an honorable foe. Unlike the other members of the Kobra hierarchy, he has no belief in the Kali Yuga, but finds the organization stimulating all the same, seeing fulfilling their goals as excellent mental exercises.

The Iron General is a skilled combatant and military commander.

The Countess

Forming the third of the upper echelon of Kobra leadership with the Serpent Supreme and the Iron general, the Countess was the daughter of a European nobleman once held for ransom by the Kobra Cult in exchange for certain technologies. While they appeared to kill her, what they in fact did was sent her to be raised by the Cult, where she eventually bought into their ideologies lock, stock, and barrel. She quickly rose through the ranks, determined to serve the cause in whatever way she can. It is believed that she may be the lover of the Iron General, but nothing has ever been proven or disproven.

The Countess is a trained fighter and assassin, and is a master of many weapons, as well as the art of seduction. Genetic engineering has given her pheromones that make it almost impossible for a man to resist her.

Professor Brainwave

Like the other members of Kobra, Professor Brainwave’s real identity has long since ceased to be of importance to him, only the identity which serves to bring about the Kali Yuga is important. But what is known is that he was once a skilled neurological research scientist, working to create technology that would help alleviate pain or suppress violent impulses in mental patients. When the Kobra Cult desired his technology, they first chose to test it on him, transforming a once peaceful and gentle man into a mad scientist.

Professor Brainwave is an extremely skilled scientist, specializing in the field of mind control technology, but equally skilled in many other fields.

Col. Kill

Timothy Lawrence Kill (not known to have served in an recognized military) has a long and bloody career as a mercenary behind him, having served in many militias and terrorist organizations across the world. The Kobra Cult may be a bit freaky, but as far as he’s concerned, they pay the bills and let him exercise his more sadistic tendencies. That’s more than enough for him.

Col. Kill is a trained fighter and a master of virtually all firearms. Working for the Kobra Cult, he employs a jetpack and a variety of advanced weapons.

The Enforcer

The Enforcer is not so much a singular individual as an identity forced upon (or sometimes eagerly taken by) a Kobra Cultist. Genetic engineering removes all sense of self from the chosen, turning them into a powerful man-monster with only limited reasoning abilities.

The Enforcer is super-humanly strong, nearly invulnerable, possesses wings for flight, and sharp bone spurs on his elbows.

Serpenterra

Her real identity is unknown, but the woman called Serpenterra is no longer entirely human, her DNA having been spliced with various pieces of snake DNA. One of Kobra’s chief field agents, she is utterly merciless and cruel.

Serpenterra possesses enhanced strength, super-human agility and flexibility (so much so that between that and her strength, she can wrap her arms or legs around a person enough to crush their bones), poison fangs and poison razor-sharp finger nails.

Slyther

Like Serpenterra, Sylther’s DNA has been altered by an infusion of snake DNA, making him something other than human. Another field agent, he is just as merciless and ruthless as she, save that where she often kills quickly, he prefers to play with his targets, making them suffer.

Slyther possesses enhanced strength, reflexes, stamina, and poison fangs. He is a skilled fighter and a master of many weapons.
