History

Sydne Gerry (nee Ann Carlsson), darling of the fashion world, is equally well-known for her affairs. Out of the innumerable selection of men, six of them made it to 'husband' status, though Sydne had taken ski vacations that lasted longer than some of her marriages. She was a force to be reckoned with, in her heyday - she was one of the most sought-after designers in the world, and she got what she wanted. When the time came to have children, she wanted daughters, and perhaps by sheer force of will, she had four of them. First came Rosaleigh, whose father was a philandering Greek business tycoon. Two years, a divorce (Sydne took a fifth of his estate), and a tabloid scandal involving Sydne and a married A-lister later, she was ready for a bit of a break from the spotlight. She met Michael Wilkes while hopping the vacation hot-spots along the East Coast. He was a regular guy, very sweet to her, so she married him. They also had a daughter, named Jennica. Sydne's marriage to Michael was to last the longest of all of them - that is to say, a whopping three and a half years. Before long, though, Sydne was back in business, jetsetting from Paris to Milan to Tokyo to Hollywood, and her marriage to Michael dissolved. She would have two more daughters - Lauressa (with her fourth husband, a distinguished older film director) and Vannifer (whose paternity is still up for debate sixteen years later).

While her half-sisters capitalized on their mother's fame and connections to the maximum, Jennica "Jenny" Madeleine Wilkes was raised as normally as possible. Her father adopted Rosaleigh as his own, and kept both girls while their mother travelled, and even after the marriage ended. Jenny went to public school while trying to stay out of the public eye, until a sixteen-year old Rosaleigh set her eye on modelling. Now old enough to be of interest to Sydne, she brought her two teenage daughters to California with her. Jenny was tutored for much of high school and, always a quiet child, was shunted to the side amongst the rising talent of Hollywood. Without the passion for the spotlight that her sister had, Jenny hated it there. When her mother decided she needed another "break", rather than heading to Aspen or Martha's Vinyard, Jenny begged Sydne to consider South Carolina. Sydne bought a ridiculous house on the upscale end of Isle of Palms, and Jenny went back and forth between her dad's considerably less showy place and her mother's vacation home.

Apparently mental health was nowhere to be found in Hollywood, so Rosaleigh came back to South Carolina briefly, bringing their half-sister Lauressa with her. The two had bonded over the Lifestyle in California (Lauressa a sixteen-year old aspiring recording artist at that point), and brought to Isle of Palms with them a bit of the Hollywood sparkle. They quickly befriended the young elite there, in search of more sparkle to tide them over. That's how Jenny found her house the "hot spot" for Isle of Palms locals, for a summer.

Jenny had a good head on her shoulders, but she still knew how to party with the best of them, in moderation. After all, that's all there was to do, in Hollywood. That's how she met Brian Hartley. He was impossibly handsome, and out of all the pretty girls on that island, she couldn't believe he wanted her. It turned out that Brian wasn't exactly Prince Charming, and the relationship ended...but not before he got her pregnant. Despite his flaws, she'd loved Brian deeply, and was secretly rather glad that he wanted to keep it. Her mother and sisters didn't have much interest in Jenny's life once she stopped following them around to events and such, and the second daughter of Sydne Gerry dropped out of the limelight for good this time. She gave birth to a son, Aiden, and Brian was a better father than she'd given him credit for. Meanwhile, she lived with her own beloved father, who was her main source of support throughout her pregnancy. Michael remarried soon after Aiden was born, and Jenny moved into a small townhouse. She is a full-time mother, and she is supported by whatever Brian scrapes together, whatever her father can spare, and whatever her mother might remember to send her while enjoying a semi-retirement in Boca.
