Eight days late, but whatever, it's mostly for my benefit anyway.

There is an explanation behind this one, which will come later or in the comments, whatever. But for now, it can speak for itself.

ETA: none of the words of the poem are mine, though the sentiment is.

for Pris
with apologies to Harvey Shapiro, Lord Byron, Billy Collins, William Shakespeare, Lucille Clifton, WH Auden, Amy Lowell, ee cummings and Javier Grillo-Marxuach.

I read one poem
So soft, so calm, yet eloquent,
then loping off into the orbit of rumors and lies,
I all alone beweep my outcast state.

but who can distinguish
one human voice
Even in the eyes of all posterity
it’s best to let the work speak for itself.
Nourish an ethical unrest.

No, no answer.

here is the deepest secret nobody knows

"I can tie him to a chair, Dubbie."

I owe you eight poems, due to epic fail on my part. I'm too tired to seek out new poets, so instead I'm just going to spam you with some of my favorites. Here you go.

April 13th: For Cathy, On Taking the Oath, by Ellis Graveworthy* )

April 14th: Puck's Epilogue, William Shakespeare )

April 15th: Boy Shooting at a Statue, Billy Collins )

April 16th: The Introduction, Billy Collins )

April 17th: See No Evil, Billy Collins )

April 18th: Genius, by ??? )

April 19th: Love the Color of Trout, Paul Zarzyski )

Today's poems coming later (yes, poems, there were two and I just couldn't pick between them), because I want to talk about them a bit.

*Ellis Graveworthy is the penname of the inestimable Sam Starbuck.

Holy epic fail, Batman! is stripping the sales ranks from gay and lesbian books. That means, essentially, that gay and lesbian literature will not show up on Amazon searches or their bestseller lists. I am sort of incoherent with anger at this, so I'll let other people do my talking for me.

Such as copperbadge! He talks well. He also has several links to things you can do, such as sending Amazon a letter through the support page (which I have done), signing the petition, or participating in Smart Bitches Trashy Books' Googlebomb.

Amazon Rank

Mark Probst, an affected author, talks about things here.

And Dear Author sounds off here.

You know it's a big story when Sf_drama gets hold of it.

Meta_writer has an alert here and a list of affected books.

And a Real Newspaper weighs in, very articulately.

With Amazon's fail in mind, I think today's daily poet should be Sappho. Don't you?
