1) With a charity softball game between the two Avengers teams pending, the WCA makes preparations to head to NYC.

2) The Masters of Evil attack and using a Mcguffin (TBD) switch bodies with the members of the WCA. (I'd like to see Toni swapped with Hadelinde, since there is a little bit of a rivalry there from some old MoE/Avengers stuff)

3) They also trigger a teleportation device that drops the swapped-WCA on the Thunderbolt's doorstep.

4) The swapped-WCA and Thunerbolt's fight.

5) Toni is just about to be able to convince Anya who they really are, when Hadeline's weapons malfunction, and disable Anya. The other T-Bolts redouble their attack, and the WCA are forced to go on the run.

6) The MoE, meanwhile, have made it to NYC and Avengers Mansion, and are using the opportunity to ferret out what secrets they can.
6.5) Stuff with the WCA on the run. Including sneaking a coded message to the T-Bolts.

7) On the day of the softball game, the MoE attack and try to kill the Avengers.

8) The WCA arrive to aid in the fight, followed shortly by Martin teleporting in with the T-Bolts.

9) The MoE are beaten, and the WCA returned to their bodies. The MoE can either be taken into custody or trigger some emergency escape thingy.

This is my cross to bear [31 Mar 2013|08:33pm]
Ultron.

Or rather, Ultrons. Everywhere. They'd taken over the world in less than a day, killing the vast majority of the world's heroes, and crippled or captured many of those who had been left after that. Only a handful had remained left to fight, but fortunately, among them had been some of the most dangerous to Ultron, including Anya Stark and Toni Rhodes.

But unless action was taken soon, humanity and the Earth was doomed to the Machine Empire of Ultron.

One of the plans drafted was a massive electromagnetic pulse. One which would shut down any machine remaining on the planet. It might well send humanity back to the stone age... but it would be an age without the tyranny of machines. But the power needed to create such a thing did not exist.

Or at least, it only existed in one person. Toni Rhodes. All she'd have to do is take some of the mutant power booster drug they'd found a cache of, in their scrambling for a base.

Sure, it would probably kill her.

But humanity didn't have the time it would take to find other solutions.

So she would have to do this, without any of the remaining resistance knowing. Because they would try to stop her from trading her life for the world's.

She stood at the age of their hideaway, a few steps away from their sensor-shield. One puff, then step outside. That was all it would take.

-Graduation Ceremony at the Urban Assembly School of Business for Young Women-- [24 Jun 2012|11:18pm]
Some of you might know me, and some of you might not. That's fine. Though it probably means I ought to talk with the Avengers PR department. My name is Toni Rhodes, though you might know me better as Spark. I'm an Avenger. And it's my pleasure to be talking to you all here, on your graduation day. I'm not much older than most you, only halfway through college myself. But people thought I might have something worth saying to you. I wasn't so sure I did, but a good friend of mine did this thing she does where she won't stop pushing a person if she thinks they're trying to quit or give up or... Well, she convinced me that maybe I could say something.

I'm black, obviously, and I'm a woman. My parents, successful people, both of them, made sure to tell me from as soon as I could understand that I was never to use either of those things as an excuse for not succeeding. But they were just as clear about the fact that both of those things meant I would have to work twice as hard just to achieve half as much as a white male. I took this to heart. Gave everything I could everything I had.

And then, when I was thirteen, I nearly crippled my best friend when my powers first manifested. On top of everything else, I was a mutant, with the power to manipulate ambient electricity and electromagnetic fields. There's a better scientific explanation, but the real upshot of it is my electronics never ran out of charge.

It's also allowed me to help a lot of people, to do things and go places I never thought possible. I'm not gonna say I've always used my powers as responsibly as I should... but hey, a girl does have to enjoy herself sometimes.

Ostensibly, I kept a secret identity, at least, for the early part of my career as an Avenger. And maybe goggles weren't exactly the world's best mask. But hey, it worked well enough. Heard of some guy who gets by with just a pair of glasses in his secret identity. Well enough until I threw that away. Real bad guy came after a friend of mine. Didn't have the chance to do anything but act. And so I did. In front of a whole lot of camera phones and people. Blew that secret right out of the water. In under an hour, the blogs and websites and all that stuff were already tweeting about me being a mutant.

And by the next morning, the hate mail started. I still get the most mail of any of the Avengers because most of it's hate mail. I'd dealt with racist idiots before, because of the color of my skin. I thought I could deal with that too.

And for the most part, I can. I don't even bother reading most of it any more, except when I'm ready to lose my faith in humanity. And I have friends who love me dearly, for who I am, not what I am.

I'm a woman.

I'm black.

I'm a mutant.

By all rights, in today's world, sadly enough, that'd probably count as three strikes. I'm out. No chances, no nothing.

But it isn't. I'm still here, still fighting, and still doing pretty damn well for myself. I'm saving the world, going to college, and providing the voice of reason to a girl with plenty of brains but not even half as much as sense.

I could let all these things weigh me down. I could let what other people see, what other people define me as, other people making me a thing or a stereotype or a statistic, I could let all of that define me, influence me. But I don't. I chose to fight. To rise up. To succeed.

And you can too.

Stark Terror [26 Apr 2012|10:43pm]

1) The Avengers respond to an attack on a Stark Industries factory in NYC. The attackers here are aliens, using a technology that is eerily similar to Iron Man weapons and tech. They are, eventually, able to beat them, but the aliens escape.

2) A contingent of these same aliens successfully kidnaps Tony Stark.

3) Another group of these aliens attack Boston, to draw out the Thunderbolts. They battle, with the overall goal of capturing Anya. A goal they succeed in.

4) The aliens take Tony and Anya back to their mothership, where they are revealed to be members of the Stark. In their future, a civil war has brewed between different factions of the Stark race, and these ones hope, that in bringing back the near-progenitor of their race, they can crush the other faction and lead the Stark to galactic domination.

5) After getting in contact with each other and realizing their mutual dilemma, the Avengers and T-Bolts team-up to track down the aliens. They find one last contingent of them, trying to steal a supply of Paladium from another Stark factory. They’re able to plant a tracking device on one, and follow them back to their ship.

6) Big fight, rescue, yadda yadda yadda. During the fight, the Stark commander realizes they cannot win, so he trips the ship’s self-destruct sequence…

7) The teams and Tony escape, and the ship explodes as it crashes into the ocean. Might be worth it to pick up on the plot thread of future-Stark tech being buried down there with it…

Name: Antoinette "Toni" Rhodes
Codename: Pulse
Group Affiliation: Avengers
Birthday: September 4, 1992
Height: 5' 7"
Weight: 125 lbs
Eyes: Brown
Hair: Black
Relatives: James "Rhodey" Rhodes (father), Monica Rambeau-Rhodes (mother), Grandmother and Grandfather Rambeau (living)

History: Though Jim Rhodes first met Monica Rambeau during the so-called "Secret Wars" on the Beyonder's Battleworld, the two did not pursue a romantic relationship until many years later. Eventually, however, they were married and blessed with a daughter, shortly before Tony Stark and Natasha Romanov had a daughter of their own. Rhodes inists, however, that his daughter was not named after his longtime friend.

Regardless, Toni grew up as Anya Stark's best friend, even when their parents were feuding. She often served as the Stark heir's voice of reason and common sense, though she just as often ended up getting dragged into something in order to try and mitigate what damage she could. No matter what, however, she remainded loyal to her friend and "sister," both out of friendship and a certain sense of familial obligation to keep Starks from screwing up too badly.

The only time of any true seperation between the two occured when Toni turned thirteen and discovered that she was a mutant. An inadvertent electromagnetic pulse briefly crippled Anya, but was quickly sorted out. Rhodey himself has found it very suspicious that his daughter developed abilities which could quickly shut Anya down, but has never voiced these to anyone.

She spent about a year at Xaiver's School, learning to control her abilities, before returning to New York proper. Toni, along with Anya and several other Avengers' children, was a founding member of the Young Avengers. She participated in several missions with the team before briefly leaving on family business just prior to the Lady Mandarin affair. Her absence during her best friend's most difficult time (and the thought that she could have slapped some sense into her preventing the whole thing) continues to haunt her.

Toni's career as an Avenger has largely been spotless, save for a brief bit of media exposure when she was outed while using her mutant powers to defend Anya from Temujin.

Toni currently attends ESU, though she has yet to decide on a major.

Powers:

Super-Conductive Electromagnetism: Toni's body can generate Raw Electromagnetic Energy, which she has learned to manipulate, control, to sense sources of electromagnetic energy, electricity and magnetism and administer as a range of attacks with a range of uses; she can charge devices with electricity, and alternatively drain the energy from them into herself, magnetize and demagnetize metals. Toni can hear radio waves meaning she can listen in on the police broadband and music stations, as well as tapping into the phone lines so she can make calls. Toni can choose to keep the electromagnetic energy that she currently holds in her body by controlling the Current and Voltage for whenever she wants to use it.

  • Electromagnetic Force Bolts: Toni can fire Bursts of electromagnetic energy from her hands for uses like electrifying objects, administering large scale static-clings, generating shields and barriers, etc.
  • Electromagnetic Fields: Toni generates an Electromagnetic field just like the earth and the sun generate their own Electromagnetic fields.
  • Electromagnetic Levitation: Toni can cause objects to fly (metal is the easiest material to manipulate and wood is the most difficult.)
  • Static Cling: Toni can adhere most objects/people to surfaces and other objects, plus Toni can magnetize surfaces.
  • Taser Punch: an electrified punch administered during combat to send opponents flying, similar effects to a Taser Gun.
  • Electromagnetic Displays: Electromagnetic Light Displays that Toni can shoot into the sky in the forms of pictures and words. With more power behind it, Toni can make these into Electromagnetic Nets and/or Cage.
  • Electromagnetic Shields and Barriers: shields and barriers that Toni can generate with Electromagnetism to block, repel, hold back attacks and defend herself in battle.
  • Ball Lightning: named after Ball Lightning, the weather phenomenon. Electromagnetic Energy compressed into a large ball and thrown at targets; an offensive maneuver in a combat situation.
  • Electromagnetic Pulse: knocking out all local electrical devices.
Skills: Toni has a working knowledge of most firearms, is a skilled sailor and pilot, and has picked up enough hanging around Starks to be dangerous when it comes to technology.

Equipment: Toni makes use of an expanding metal disk that she can use her powers to levitate, in order to fly. The disk has been treated with Pym particles and becomes palm-sized, for storage in her jacket, when not in use.

Shopping Interrupted [21 Nov 2009|10:19pm]
Toni waited near Hydrobase's exit, having left a simple message for anyone interested.

Going shopping in the city. Who's up for it?

So now, she waited for those who were coming to arrive.

Letter to Santa [13 Nov 2009|10:59am]
Dear Santa Claus,

I think I've been a pretty good girl this year. Except for that whole European bender thing. But if I didn't go, it probably would have gone even more crazy for Anya. It's a Rhodes thing.

So if it's not too much trouble, how about some happy times for Anya and Uncle Tony this year? And maybe Mom and Dad both home at the same time for once?

Also, I'd like a corvette.

The "Toolbox" Armor [01 Jul 2009|02:36pm]

Affectionately referred to by Toni as the "Toolbox" armor, her suit possesses a number of traits in common with standard Iron Man-type armors, as well as several unique modifications created by Anya and herself, largely to facilitate functionality with her mutant abilities. While not the prodigy that Anya is, Toni compensates by her powers giving her a natural mechanical aptitude (meaning she doesn't need to understand how a repulsor gun works in order to create one if she has the proper parts)

*Exoskeleton Strength Enhancement
       ---
The armor enhances the wearer's strength by a significant factor, enabling the wearer to lift approximately 50 tons at maximum power.

*Force Field
---Already made of a high-tessellation iron/titanium alloy, the suit is partially held together by a specialized forcefield, which assists with connectivity and also reinforces the natural armor factor. Unfortunately, the force field is just within a similar wavelength to to energy of Toni's mutant power, meaning it effectively cuts, though does not eliminate, her ability to affect metals, plastics, and glass. On the other hand, it enhances her ability to affect the suit itself, meaning she can almost instantly reshape and reconfigure its systems.

*Flight
---Achieved by a combination of traditional rocketry and repulsor based propulsion, the Toolbox armor can achieve super-sonic speeds and reach escape velocities.

*Energy Absorbtion panels
--The suit possesses limited capacity for absorbing heat, electricity, and solar energy to convert into useable energy stores.

*Dummy Compents
---The armor contains a number of redundant and multifunctional systems, designed to be able to be reconfigured into any number of systems and weapons as necessary.

*Weapons Systems
---The Toolbox armor system possess roughly a dozen weapons systems that can be easily accessed or reconfigured.

1) Repulsors: The standard armament for virtually any suit of power armor. While primarily palm-mounted, Toni typically reconfigures them into forearm mounted guns, which provided greater focus for the beam.

2) Unibeam: Built into a chest projector, this device can be used to project everything from simple illumination to a destructive heat-beam.

3) White noise gun: created by transforming the suit's hands into weapons barrels, this device produces sonic pulses that can be focused into destructive beams or wided into disoriented sonic blasts.

4) Electric pulse generators: created by transforming bits of the suit into arc generators and cycling reserve power, the wearer can direct focused bolts of electicity at his/her opponents.

5) Capture cables: Little more than advanced material grabbling hooks, when manipulated by Toni's mutant power, these become a very manouverable method of ensnaring opponents.

6) Pulse Bolts: high impact energy beams fired from emmiters on the backs on the gauntlets, these do more damage the farther they travel.

7) Laser Beam projector: Nominally housed in the right gauntlet (though it can be reconfigured for other places), this create a coherent beam of light within a defined arc. Normally used like a blade, its maximum extension is enough to also allow it to be a ranged weapon.

8) Wrist Cannon: built into the left gauntlet (but also reconfigurable), this weapon fires solidified energy "bullets" with a variety of charges, allowing them to be able to stun or even explode.

9) Kinetic Energy Cannon: assembled from dummy components in the right shoulder, this cannon fires charged pulses which speed up the atomic reactions within nonliving matter, causing it to explode after being jarred.

10) Mini-gun: assembled from components in the left shoulder, this ballistics weapon utilizes repulsor-based balistics technology to fire a variety of ammunitions.

11) Anti-thermal beam: usually gauntlet mounted, this high-power usage weapon is based on Stark studies of the Blizzard's Freon suit and is effectively a freeze-ray.

12) Thermal-Beam: a last gauntlet-mounted weapon, based on designs from the Melter's weaponry, this weapon produces a concentrated heat beam designed specifically to generate melting-point level heat.
