Cold Water Flats
Cold Water Flats, Washington is a small town located near the coast, roughly thirty minutes from Seattle. It's a quiet town on the surface but it is teeming with supernatural activity. Resting on sacred grounds, Cold Water Flats is a beacon for supernatural creatures and is a safe place that they can call home. Despite the broad diversity of supernatural species living in Cold Water Flats, they manage to keep their secret pretty heavily guarded. Most of the humans living there have no idea about what is really going on around them.

Werewolves

The werewolves of Cold Water Flats are not constrained by the ebbs and flows of the lunar cycle. They are however partially controlled by the beasts inside of them. The wolves must shift at least once a week, if not more often. The longer they go without shifting the more irritable and cranky they become and if they wait too long they shift uncontrolably. The shift is a very painful process, one that leaves the wolf vulnerable for several minutes until they are completely in their wolf form (or in the opposite direction in their human form). It is a hereditary condition that is passed down from father to son. The lycanthropy can be contracted through a bite but it is insanely hard to survive a bite so most all of werewolves in the Cold Water Flats pack are born wolves, rather than made. With the disease comes certain advantages. Werewolves have an extended lifespan and regenerative abilities. They are faster, stronger and have enhanced senses. The pack in Cold Water Flats is a very small pack, tight knit and led by the pack alpha, Hunter Atwater (atwaterh). Because they are so small they tend to keep to themselves and they stay neutral in any inter-species conflicts.

Vampires

The vampires in Cold Water Flats are also a small group, though slightly larger than the wolf pack. They range from very powerful to very weak, new vampires. Some vampires reach the level of master, which gives them a variety of powers from telepathy to flight. The strongest vampire in the City is the Mistress or Master of the City. The mistress of the city has a sort of psychic connection with all of the vampires in the territory and a small degree of control over all of them. Not all the vampires in the city will be masters and not all of them will have very interesting powers. The vampires are not allergic to garlic but they are allergic to sunlight. They can't go out in the daylight and therefore usually have some sort of daytime resting place where they are safe from the light.

Magic Dealers

Witches: In Cold Water Flats, witchcraft is not a religion. In fact it has very little to do with that sort of spirituality. Witchcraft is passed down from mother to daughter. The magic they use in their craft is in their blood. There are very few, if any, learned witches. Witches are capable of four levels of spells, though it requires a great deal of strength and practice to reach the forth level of spellcrafting. All witches are capable of completing the first level and most witches are familiar with the second. Half or less can complete the third level of spells and only a handful of witches in Cold Water Flats have learned or mastered the fourth level of spells. Common spells to witches in the area include but are not limited to: cloaking spells, candle lighting spells, glamour spells, and more. The witch community is drawn together in a coven. There is one witch that leads the coven and a smaller group of witches that serve as the Elders Council. The Elders Councils has nothing to do with age and everything to do with status and strength. It is comprised of fourth level witches.*

Sorcerers: Sorcerers are the male counterpart to witches. There is no religion behind their power. The magic is passed from father to son. With their sharp wit and ability to use magic, sorcerers often do a great deal of business and often have a great deal of wealth. Their magic is physical stronger than that of the magic of witches but they struggle with the finer points to the art. There are no levels of power within the realm of sorcery, merely strong, stronger and strongest. The sorcerer's counterpart to the witches' coven is a cabal. The strongest sorcerer is the head of the cabal and from there they descend in power. There is no second in command and there is no Elders council. What the leader of the cabal says, goes. There are frequently power struggles within the cabal and it his not uncommon for the head of the cabal to be overthrown, often violently.*

Necromancers: Like with witches and sorcerers, necromancy is passed from parent to child. Unlike the other two species of magic dealers, necromancy is not gender specific. And it is never a given. On occasion the magic skips a generation and ends up in grandchildren or a out of a set of siblings only one of the children might be born with the death magic. Necromancers have no power over anyone other than the dead. They can raise the dead or lay the dead to rest, though it takes a lot of skill and a great deal of power to be able to control the dead. There aren't any necromancers capable of leading a legion of zombies or anything like that. More often than not, necromancers use their gifts to communicate with the dead. They can hear and speak to spirits that haven't crossed over, though once a spirit has made the shift into the after life they are no longer on a necromancer's radar.

*Sorcerers and Witches tend not to get along. Able to pick one another out of a crowd given the feel of their magic, they will try to avoid each other from all costs. This stems all the way back to the Spanish Inquisition, where the witches taught men how to use magic and then were betrayed and nearly wiped out completely. Witches hate and distrust sorcerers for stealing their magic and sorcerers hate and distrust witches because they have a desire to be the only magic weilders. The dislike of each other is not innate but taught at a very young age from mothers to daughters and fathers to sons.

Half-Demons

There are no pure demons in Cold Water Flats. They pop in and out just long enough to procreate and then are gone again just as fast. Half-demons are always born of a demon father and a human mother. The mods may decide to make exceptions for cross breeds, though the chances of that happening are slim to none. The half-demon will have powers past down from the type of demon that their father was. Demons vary in ability and in strength and so do their half-demon offspring.

Elemental:

Fire: These half-demons have the ability to control fire. Some may only be able to cause a few sparks and first degree burns. However as they grow in strength, they can incinerate objects and create third degree burns. The strongest of these demons would be able to use their power to completely ignite a person or object.
Ice: Much like the fire demons, these half-demons have the ability to control ice. Ranging from being able to create a little bit of frost to being able to freeze things completely, they go from very strong to very weak in their abilities.
Tempestras (Storm): The tempestras half-demons can create storms. The weakest of the tempestras can change the temperature a few degrees or cause a light rain. The strongest can cause all kinds of adverse weather and they can also control where the storm goes or doesn't go. This type of demon could cause rain to fall on just one person or the entire town if they choose to do it.

Physical:

Auditory: This type of half-demon has increased auditory perception. Depending on how strong they are they can also control whether or not the people around them can hear.
Visual: Much like the auditory half-demons, this type can control vision. They have greater visual acuity and depending on their strength they can control the visual acuity of the people around them. Making them see sharper or blinding them all together.

Dimensional:

Telekinetic: Telekinetic half-demons have the ability to move objects with their minds. The weakest can move small objects a few inches here or there and the strongest have the ability to move large and heavy objects long distances.
Telepathic: Telepathic half-demons have the ability to read the minds of those around them and also to speak through thoughts. There are now humans that are immune to their abilities and werewolves also have no immunity. Witches and sorcerers can use magic to block their thoughts from being read, as can vampires, however they might not always be aware that they are in the presence of a telepathic half-demon.
Teleportation: Teleportation half-demons have the ability to teleport from one location to another. Depending on their strength depends on how far they can teleport and whether or not they can teleport through walls.

Rules
please read before you apply, there aren't that many

[x] Keep OOC and IC separate
[x] As long as the comms keep moving there is no limit for updating journals (journals never have to be updated as long as you are active in threads or logs)
[x] AIM is not required for your character but is encouraged
[x] No Mary-sues; please stick to the guidelines for the species we laid out
[x] Major plots must be run by the mod
[x] No killing or hurting any other character without the player's permission
[x] When the game starts getting bigger there will be a cap on characters.

We've decided to re-open and there is now a new policy on journals. Each player will have one journal. It can be whatever you want it to be. You will upload icons of each of your characters to the journal and then use the appropriate icons when threading with certain characters. There are no first person entries and your journal should only be used to house character biographies. I would suggest using an early adopter journal because it allows for 150 icons, where as new journals only allow for 6.

all comments are screened so questions and comments should be directed here as opposed to pms.
