Was a security lock on her husband's fortune really worth ruining the rest of her life becoming a mother to a child she had no interest in--and who, to boot, wasn't even Orpheus' at all? What did she even know about being a mother, anyway? Ophelia, Ophelia, that whore sister-in-law of hers--as much as she hated her, she was the sort of person that became a mother, so---congratu-fucking-lations to her, she could have this one too, because she didn't want it, nothing was worth the nine months of torture and the ruined lifetime and the--the---
What had she been saying?
Juliana shook her head and sunk into one of the library's couches, waiting for her train of thought to come back to her. From out in the hallway the sound of footsteps registered faintly in her mind, and somewhere she knew who it had to be---still, she looked surprised as Amery came into sight, like she hadn't expected him to actually come.
She got up from the couch to greet him, ignoring (or possibly not hearing) his warning as she did so by downing the rest of the clear liquid from her glass even as she nearly tripped over her own feet. "Well good afternoon, otets," she answered with a self-satisfied smile.
