"I'm afraid they don't taste very good," she mumbled, immediately dropping down to her knees to get the frosting off the floor before it got too sticky, "Something about the sugar to flour ratio." Or that she'd added a bit too much salt. Something like that, she was sure.
She knew it was difficult for Tomas to handle this, and while shew anted to help him ... prying too much seemed like a terrible idea. It wasn't like she was very good at sharing her feelings when it came down to it, and this time she was grieving too. The rational part of her knew that it would be all right and that Corner's death had been somehow expected, considering his controversial blood status and his position ... but still.
Still.
Now was no longer the ideal time to be having a child, but she couldn't even think of bringing that up to Tomas and she'd chocked her feelings about that up to being miserable over Corner and pregnancy hormones.
"I ordered food, however. It should be here soon."
