Aberforth Dumbledore : Barkeep ([info]aberfort) wrote in [info]valesco,
"You know the sort I deal with, Albus," Abe said sternly after explaining specifically where his brother could insert a lemon drop if he felt so inclined. "The lot of them would sell out one another for a firewhiskey and a good meal. Half of them wouldn't require the meal."

They simply stared at one another briefly. Aberforth didn't need the questions to be asked. He knew how Albus's mind worked, and what exactly the even look he was receiving meant. Albus was looking for answers. Things that shouldn't be told had been told, Abe had known that much before he'd arrived. Unfortunately, he didn't have much to tell and he was too thick to fall for his brother's tricks with words.

"Of course, I have heard rumors, but I'd soon believe a goat's tale as I would one of my dunderhead regulars." He shook his head, his expression guarded. "There's nothing, Albus. Nothing. You know I would come to the Order with anything suspicious as soon as it left the idiot's lips."

Still refusing to sit, Abe expression went thin and he nodded, looking to Albus for any other questions or speculations. He was ready to leave.

"Remaining on the fence will not help out cause, Aberforth."

Abe's eyes flashed behind his spectacles, but he kept his tongue. He'd said his piece. He was forcing himself to not dig into his brother for the downward spiral their fight was taking, which Abe blamed on Albus for allowing such young wizards into their ranks. It was a topic they would never agree upon. It was better left unsaid.

"As I said, Albus, if I hear anything -- anything that would be of interest to you, you will hear it from me." Abe's hand went to the door handle. "As for the fence, I am in the business of debauchery not betrayal," he added gruffly. "You know where I stand. You've always known. We are not as different as you or I may think."
