He was lost to describe the feeling that had washed over him upon hearing those words leave Derek's mouth. They had tied such a knot in his stomach that he was unable to think properly, unable to move from his spot. What was he saying? Attacked---alone---Death Eater---psychopath--took advantage----those were terrible words, and words that should not, could not be associated with his sister. So there was some mistake, right?
No, there was no mistake for it, because Derek was not the kind to make jokes about this sort of thing, and there was no way to simply act that sort of air he had around him now. Which meant that he must be telling the truth, and Dianna really was--
It was like a night and day difference from seconds before, Darien's demeanor. Like flipping a switch, he had transformed from silly boy into serious adult; it was a change that many never saw, but which had never been more appropriate than this very moment.
Clenching his wand in his pants pocket, he fixed his brother with an angry look--not at him, but at this. "How long?" he asked, voice low and dangerous but with an undeniable tremor lurking below. "And is she---okay?"
