WORLD CUP PARTY!

Champions of the world. That's all there was really to say, wasn't it?

Charlie took in a long breath of the cool New York air, admiring the party that was being thrown for team Ireland. Them, being thrown for them! Holly was a riot, capturing pictures with everyone and demanding certain poses. Caden Flint was smiling, smiling from ear to ear! He and Saoirse had even danced for a song or two, or three, it was that kind of night. It felt like his entire life had led up to today's match, to this night.

He made his way to the bar, raising his hand to the bartender to bring him another round. Tomorrow was his last day in New York, and he meant to celebrate this night like it should be. Charlie slid onto the bar stool and shook some hands with passersby as he waited for his drink. It was really something, being part of the best team in the world---it hadn't sunk in, and he didn't think that it was something that would for a long time.

His foot knocked into the person sitting beside him as he turned back to the bar. Charlie grinned sheepishly, "Whoops, sorry."

ooc: Open to all participants of the World Cup, their friends, family, and guests!!

Charlotte was certain that she was dreaming. Standing behind Jake she couldn't help but gap at her surroundings. How could she not, she was at the World Cup After Party. The tickets alone had her following Jake around with star eyes, constantly trying to think of a way to pay him back. And now, she could hardly speak. Somewhere in this room was Matteo Basili. She could see half the Irish players just off in the distance.

Obviously she didn't need to worry about where she was going to sleep tonight anymore, because there was no way she was going to miss a moment of this party. "I'm pretty sure you are the best person in the entire world," she commented for the third time since arriving in New York. She still tinged a bit thinking about how she nearly tackled him on her arrival. It was embarrassing but she hadn't been able to control her emotions since she received the tickets in the post.

"I think I may owe you my first born or something by now." She flitted around Jake as they made their way to the bar. A bar that had at least three players she recognized leaning against it, one of whom's stats she could recite on demand. Merlin. Lottie turned back to Jake before she turned into one of those quidditch girls. "What do you want to drink? My treat!"

Jake smiled lightly at Charlotte's continued enthusiasm. His guilt about her not being able to attend the World Cup had progressed throughout the weeks and was mostly in part of his...fun. He'd been having fun with his brother, whose early round loss had allowed a lot of time to be spent together. Ollie was, well, Ollie, and their type of fun was not everyone's type of fun. Walking through the city had not been overwhelming in the bad way he had thought it would; being able to walk where he pleased and explore without question had eased his anxieties.. Jake had found himself actually sad that the tournament was ending and was dreading the last few days.

Except, Charlotte was coming.

Ollie called her his 'lady friend.' Jake promptly shut doors or knocked his friend out of whatever chair/seat he was sitting in whenever he dropped comments about it. Charlotte was his friend, yes, and she was a lady, but--She had been more than a friend, once, and he knew that it was never going to be that way again, and he could honestly not say if he wanted them to one day get back to that because...because he was a completely different person than he was in Hogwarts. Part of him wondered if she only continued to talk to him now because she felt guilty about his current circumstances.

Before he allowed himself to sour his mood, Jake took a look at the bar. He had not had a drink in a long time. Other recreational drugs, sure, but alcohol? "Beer? I don't--whatever's on tap is fine."

He tugged on the sleeves of the jacket that Melania had picked out for him when Ollie had been useless in his advice. "Whatever you think."

Charlotte nodded with a grin before skipping off to retrieve drinks. While waiting for the bartender she stole a glance over her shoulder at Jake. She found being around him incredibly comfortable, despite the differences between now and then.

They had never discussed it, though Charlotte itched to ask. She wanted to know from him what had happened. She wanted to know how he was really doing, but she wasn't quite sure how to broach the topic. Or if she had any right. Sure, once Jake had been the most important person in her life, but now she wasn't even sure what this was.

That certainly didn't stop her from snooping around news articles and public records to piece together what she could. Except that it didn't help much, because knowing and not knowing what to do with the information was just as bad as not knowing at all.

Lottie grinned brightly when Jake caught her staring. One thing that she didn't question though, was that getting Jake to smile was definitely something that she enjoyed doing. She frowned slightly at the contents of her purse (or the lack there of) as she payed for the drinks. Well, this was worth what ever hassle would come when she got back home. At least she made sure to get a return portkey before setting off. Grabbing the drinks she turned to make her way back to Jake, weaving through the growing crowd and apologizing as she bump into a person or two due her lack of attention.

"Here you go. It's not the best beer, but its the best one they have here." She offered him a small shrug taking a sip of her own. "Alright, Bexley, moment of truth. Had you of won, what would have been your prize?" She nudged her elbow against his. It was only fair, she got her's despite not winning, Jake should have his too.

He smirked at her question, maneuvering through the crowd to find a pair of high stools in a corner for them to sit. Jake had not put much thought into what his prize would be if Wales had advanced ahead of Italy, but he enjoyed the back and forth banter the bet between he and Charlotte caused. Jake had wished the two teams would remain in a tie for longer, but was glad that he did not have to admit defeat.

The beer tasted foul, but Jake remembered he once enjoyed the taste so he blamed his long term departure from the drink. He held the pint in both of his hands on his lap as he thought up an answer for her, but ended up shrugging.

"I hadn't thought of anything," he said, shrugging. Jake looked over at Charlotte and smiled. "I did think Wales was going to win and beat Italy, but I hadn't thought of anything."

What could he possibly need? His brother would buy him anything, yet Jake asked for nothing. Ollie was the most laid back person he'd ever met and asked nothing of Jake, so he was used to doing as he pleased. Which wasn't much. He hadn't done much of anything in years, it seemed, but the past few months had centered around trying to keep Charlotte Sweeting pleased.

"I was planning to send you a ticket from the beginning," he admitted. Jake turned away and looked down into his drink. "I didn't think past that."

Charlotte blinked as Jake looked away. He had planned to send the ticket since the beginning, and hadn't thought past that? Her cheeks tinged slightly at the gesture. What on earth was she suppose to say to that? He hadn't even thought of anything he wanted had he won. And here she was, only concerned about winning so she could get some sort of fancy souvenir. She had to figure out something to do for him. She had to pay him back some how for all his kindness.

"Seems like so long ago, doesn't it?" she asked quietly, carefully knowing that she was about to tread into territory that previously was silently agreed a non-topic. "Saying goodbye at Kings Cross," she continued when she had his attention. "Seems like it was ages ago, and so many things are different now."

She took a sip of her drink. "You haven't changed much though, have you?" Lottie could feel him looking at her, and she shrugged a shoulder. "Not where it counts, anyways. Still as nice and generous as you were to me back in school, and we haven't even talked in years. I never once tried to get in touch with you since King's Cross, and I probably should have." She hadn't even realized how much she missed him until he waltzed back into her life New Years Eve. And even if that was the last time they ever kissed, Charlotte was certainly pleased she could call him her friend again.

"I'll pay you back for all of this. Some how. It's definitely far more than I deserve." She nudged her foot into his. "Thank you."

It was ages ago. It was a literal lifetime ago, because Jake was not the same person that he had been at the train station. He'd left Charlotte there to go fight in the war, thinking it was noble of him to keep her out of harm's way. So many aurors' family and friends were attacked during those trying times, he'd only been trying to keep her safe...Maybe he could have tried harder, in a better way than simply letting her go. His chest tinged in pain and Jake felt a rash of nervousness over come him. It was a familiar feeling, one tht he usually managed to suppress, but the entire experience of the World Cup, the alcohol, Charlotte, it had his mind racing.

"I have changed," he blurted, putting his nearly finished drink down on a small table between them. Jake's chair swiveled to face Charlotte and he looked forlorn. "The war changed me, I'm---"

She thought him generous, but Charlotte was one of three people he could remember being kind to within the past few years. She was an important part of his past that his mind wouldn't let ignore. They'd been happy once, and maybe somewhere deep down he was yearning for that kind of happiness again. Jake blinked, keeping his stoic expression; he knew it would never be the same. He'd never be the boy he was in Hogwarts, before he joined the auror squad, but maybe he could find something that was better than the life he'd been living since his attack.

"I'm trying," he said, feeling hot. Jake's breaths became a little quicker with his nerves, but he pushed forward. "You make me want to try and be--better. You don't have to pay me back."

Charlotte froze at Jake insisting that he had changed. She opened her mouth to respond but quickly snapped it shut as he continued. She wasn't sure how she felt that it was her that made him want to try and be better. There should be other people. The Ministry should be doing something. Anything. But as far as she could tell, now that the war was over, everything associated with it was now swept under the rug and hidden. Just pretending it never happened.

Her mouth opened and closed a few more times before she straightened in her seat. "Well I want to repay the gesture. And you know me. I always get want." Finishing her drink she set the empty glass on the table.

"And I know you've changed, Jake. I'm not trying to ignore that, I'm just saying it doesn't matter much to me. I like the post war Jake just fine too."

"Scusi--"

Drink in hand, Matteo Basili smiled faintly at the auburn beauty standing before him. He had not seen such a beautiful color matched with such an appealing face in, well... he couldn't remember. It was not frequent that he left his home country, for obvious reasons, but when he did.... ah, it made him appreciate witches that were not Italian so much more.

"Bella." The word rolled off his tongue easily, and without giving much notice to the wizard standing in front her, Matteo eased up beside the witch that had caught his eye from across the room. As always, he struggled with his English, but carried on anyway like she would understand him completely.

"Your hair--- I, ah, see from--" He jammed a thumb over his shoulder to indicate where he had been mere moments ago. When she stared up at him, in what he assumed was either shock or acceptance, he continued. "Beautiful."

Matteo paused for a moment, and then pointed to his drink. "Volete qualcosa da bere?" Another pause, with a larger smile. "A drink? You like? With me." Yes, this fair-haired witch intrigued him, he wanted to know what her hair would feel like between his fingers while kissing her.

Charlotte wasn't sure who she was expecting to find when she turned to see who was interrupting their conversation, but she was certain that she never even dreamed of this. Grabbing onto the table to stop herself from ungracefully falling of the stool she was perched on, she gaped as he continued.

Bella. She couldn't help but glance over to Jake then around behind her just to make just that it was her hair that Matteo Basili was complimenting. In English no less. As amazing as her hair was, she would have never thought--

She couldn't think, because she knew enough Italian to know what he was asking her before he even tried to translate. Charlotte could feel the flush race up her neck and to her face. All her words seemed to have left her. Italian, English, French. Which was okay because there was a fair chance that this wasn't even real. Before she could stop herself she reached out tentatively to brush her fingers across his arm. Something easily could have been slipped in her drink maybe she was hallucinating.

Her hand recoiled when it touched skin, and covered her mouth hoping to catch any gasp that might have escaped her lips. What was she suppose to do with this. Jake had got her tickets, and got her into this party. It would be beyond rude to up and leave him just because a pretty quidditch player had come and asked her to go off with him. She would have to politely refuse. It was the right thing to do.

"I-- Well--" Though it wasn't just any player. Lottie had fancied Matteo Basili from the first time she saw him play. And here he was coming to talk to her from across the room. Her. Not anyone else in the party. Surely Jake would understand that she couldn't possibly say no. "Now? I mean-- yes but--- I---" She turned a brighter red because she was smarter than this, she could form a sentence. "That would be nice." She finally managed, wishing she could remember more Italian. "I just--" She glanced over to Jake, hoping that he wouldn't mind. Ollie was around somewhere, and his brother. It wasn't like she was leaving him all alone.

Whoa.

Even Jake, who found it very hard to be moved by much of anything, was startled by the appearance of Basili. His eyes widened as the man began to actually speak to them, or more specifically, to Charlotte. Jake was used to being ignored, but he felt a heat rise in his chest as it became apparent that he was absolutely disappearing from the room without moving from his seat. Matteo Basili was currently asking Charlotte to have drinks with him, and it was unfortunately painfully obvious to Jake that he was going to get left behind.

He smiled at Charlotte as she turned to him. At least he hadn't vanished completely. Jake nodded toward Basili, knowing that he stood no chance against the Italian. He knew he stood no chance against any normal bloke, let alone a world class quidditch player. Jake knew, as bitter as it tasted in his mouth, that he stood no chance with Charlotte. He hadn't even accepted the fact that he wanted to be with her until this moment, even though Ollie had been harassing him for months.

But Jake's mind didn't work in 'ifs or buts' any more. It was black and white.

"Have fun," he said, standing quickly. "Be careful." Jake smiled again, unsure if it came across as sincere or completely fake. He didn't particularly care at the moment and turned away, taking a big drink of his beer as he finally did disappear into the crowd in search for another.

Charlotte blinked as Jake stood, not giving her much room to say anything else. A strange feel spread across her chest as he told her to have fun, and to be careful. There was something to his tone, and the way it made her feel watching him walk away that she just couldn't quite place.

She didn't have much time to figure it out as a hand at her elbow drew her attention away from where her friend disappeared. Right, Matteo. "Sorry," she said a grin replacing the frown that had formed. It was easy to ignore everything looking at this man before her. Lottie was most likely just imagining the bitterness in Jake's tone. He would have said something had he minded. "Looks like I'm all yours."
