ROSE!
Thomas had left Alice with his mother because he could not allow his daughter to become a distraction from his goal. His lips twisted in frustration and he knocked rapidly on the front door of Rose Knightley's house.

He had--Thomas has reasoned that he had been very good at giving her space and privacy to figure out whatever it was that she needed to figure out. He understood privacy, he lived in it. But--but she had missed the first game of the season. That was! That was serious. The whole lineup of the Catapults was in shambles, but he only gave a damn about Rose. If she was pregnant, then yes, that was understood. Wonderful, even. Thomas had found himself excited at the idea of Alice having a cousin of sorts so close in age, if Rose was indeed pregnant.

But he didn't know. Rose had always been very quick to run to him with her problems, her concerns, her secrets. It startled him that he couldn't get a straight answer out of her and he feared that his indiscretions from last year had irrevocably ruined their friendship. Was there a lack of trust? He had been so sure that they'd rectified the damage he caused, but now he didn't know. What could be serious enough that she couldn't talk to him? He felt terrible.

His mind drifted to Brookstanton; he was the change in Rose's demeanor, Thomas knew. He had kept his distance from the relationship, but if the Kestrel was doing something to her that could cause her any sort of pain, it--it would not be pretty, Thomas could assure. He made to knock again, but the door opened. Thomas pressed his lips together.

"You missed opening weekend," he stated as he looked over Rose. She didn't appear to be dying, but that didn't stop his mind from continuing to fret that might indeed be the case.

Right before she opened the door, Rose took the moment to shake all the jitters out of her body. This she could most definitely handle, Thomas would be more difficult to doge than Kendall, but she was sure, after all the mental preparation, that the both of them would come out of this exchange unscathed. This would be easy, definitely.

This wouldn't be easy, and Rose knew that Thomas would fight her tooth and nail every step of the way. But, at least with her opening the door there stood a chance of him not breaking into the house in a raged frenzy of a fit. Glancing down her front one more time, she flicked the door open with her wand before Thomas had the chance to bang on it again.

A small smile pressed together on her lips. It was thoughtful of him to have kept his distance this long, and appear here before her now.

"I did," she agreed in an even tone. Rose kept a gentle grip on the door, leaning into it for support with surprising ease. Rose rested her other hand on her hip, watching Thomas with the vaguest keen watch she could muster. Over the years, she had become quite good at it, if she didn't say so herself.

Thomas nodded because he didn't know what to say next. He'd never had problems talking to Rose, but the past year had changed that. He didn't like it and he knew that it was his own fault, so what could he do? He wanted to yell, but that was usually Kendall's tactic and that never went very far. Thomas wanted to plea for an answer because thinking that Rose was going through something terrible and refusing to let him help was paralyzing.

He looked down at his feet. Maybe he didn't like that they'd found things that were more important than each other. That's what it came down to, right? Julia and the baby had been more important than sharing his new life with Rose and Kendall, and here she was, keeping things locked away. Maybe her life with Brookstanton wasn't some confusing fling, maybe it was something that Rose wanted to protect from the world, from them.

His mind was spiraling like it tended to in these sort of situations. Thomas needed all the facts, but he knew he'd be lucky to get any.

"I just want to make sure you're okay," he said, feeling defeated before anything had really begun.

She frowned. This was not the kind of... when she had been imagining the Thomas that would appear at her doorstep, the wizard before her had not a drop of what she'd been expecting. Any range of emotions she prepared for, not a lack there of. He had to understand... it wasn't... he hadn't done anything wrong...

Glancing back over her shoulder and into the house briefly, Rose, when she deemed the coast clear, quietly stepped out onto the landing. Closing the door behind her, she pressed a small smile onto her face for him. She reached out and touched Thomas' elbow for a moment to grab his attention.

"I am fine," she nodded, hoping he would hear the quiet encouragement in her voice. That, at least, she could say. Nodding to herself more than Thomas now, she smoothly moved her hand to point off toward the side of the house that was slowly turning into an English garden. It was taking some time, and she was having a bit of trouble mastering the unkempt but controlled signature look, but it was still a very nice walk to go through.

"We can go for a walk, if you like?"
