Another riddle from a hungry former Ravenclaw:

What's soft but crunchy hard, cold but spicy hot? I need a lot of it. Access to the common room if it's edible.

...the first thing that comes to my mind is a taco, but that doesn't make sense.

Taco could work. I guess if you don't heat up the meat it could be cold.

Waffles?

I mean...they make waffle cones for ice cream, so those are cold and crunchy, but they also aren't actually waffles, so...

But they'd be considered more 'luke warm' or 'room temperature' than cold, until you add the ice cream I guess, so that might not work either. Hm.

Ohmygodwaffles Ice cream with hot sauce could technically solve it. Spicy could mean hot.

Wait.

Does this riddle actually have an answer, or are you making all of this up as you go?

I...may be concocting an experiment.

If Rowena Ravenclaw had made the door to her tower 'concoct experiments' rather than tell riddles, I might have spent a lot less time standing around outside balancing a tower of books in my arms.

Anything I can do to help with this experiment from across the pond?

Well, you've already proved that a true blue Ravenclaw can't resist a riddle!

We're also gluttons for information, which is why I'm so damn interested in what this experiment is and why you had to use trickery in order for your fellow Ravenclaws to help you out.

Yeah, I promise. My word is my bond.

Congratulations! I hadn't even been aware you'd met a bloke and now I'm finding out you're expecting! How far along are you?

I know! Thank you! I mean, it's not serious just yet---well, no now it's serious, but it hadn't been serious before this surprise. His name's John and he's an architect.

I'm--seven weeks tomorrow! He's due late March. It feels good to say that.

That's brilliant, Em. I'm so happy for you.

He! It's a boy! That's amazing! I mean, not that boys are better than girls - can't say that, what with me expecting a little one in the fall who is undoubtedly going to be female, but it's going to be a completely different experience than it was with Eric. The whole situation is a complete 180 from what it was when we first found out we were expecting a son.

Thank Merlin for that.

How is it that you and Doge always get me to revert back to rambling?

I am so excited to hear about your adventures with Little Girl Diggle!

Because you become comfortable and relaxed when around childhood friends, and it's just in your natural state to ramble on and on for ages!

We started working on her nursery. It's very...pink. Hopefully I won't feel like I'm going to break her when I first hold her. I've been pretty alright with Gabriella.

I think. Anneliese would let me know, right? I'd rather hear it from her than her husband.

I absolutely love the fact that you just gave me a logical, reasonable explanation. I've missed you more than I realized.

You'll be perfect with her! It'll be when she gets to Hogwarts and other boys start noticing her that we'll have the problem.
