"ACK!" is not the most dignified response a Sorcerer of Atlantis can make, but it's the only one he can get out in the breath he managed to take before Iris set upon him.
It was nice to see a friendly face, in any event. He hugs her gently, looking down at her with violet eyes that might seem just a little distressed.
"Hello, Iris. I'm...gonna need those ribs in the future." he says with a chuckle. He looks down on her from six-foot-two frame, his hair longer than the last time they saw each other as well. Something about him just seems /older/ as if he's aged in more than just body since last they met.
"Are you the only one here? Did I come at a bad time?" he asks.
"Sorry," Iris said with a sheepish grin, "I just haven't seen you in FOREVER."
"Cait and Ty are out grocery shopping, but everyone else should be here soon. I'm always here first on the weekends." She smiled. "But I'm sure everyone will be happy to see you."
She gave him a once over. Something about him, seemed...different.
"Oh, well, that's good, I guess. I really needed to talk to Cait about some things, but I won't be staying." Cerdian says, trying to figure out the best way to approach this situation.
Iris did not look like she was in bad shape. She seemed different from the last time he'd seen her, but he couldn't determine why. Still, one of his vision included her and Jai, and it saddened him to think about what might happen down the line. That was the most frustrating part.
"How is Jai? You guys are having a birthday soon, right?" he asks.
"Okay," Iris said, a little disappointed. "I'm sure no one mind if you stuck around for a little bit, though."
Then again, Cerdian had always been the SERIOUS one. More serious than Jai. And Jai could be pretty darn serious.
"We are! And we're having a part, which you can totally come to if you want, you're always invited. Though I understand if you don't want to go, though. Because Jai and I are just seventeen, and you're older than us and Jai and are the youngest, so clearly our parties CAN'T be as cool as some of the ones that Lian's dragged you along to..." Yes, she was rambling. She did this often.
Cerdian smiles one of his rare, genuine smiles. Iris was cute when she rambled. Jai called her excitable, but Cerdian knew it for what it was. Iris simply lived at full-speed, and many people were hard-pressed to keep up.
"If you'd have me, I'd love to come to your party. I'd like to see everyone and catch up on things." he says, his smile reaching those pale violet eyes of his.
"In fact...I will have a gift for you on that day." he says.
"AWESOME!" Iris said, wrapping Cerdian in another hug.
"You don't have to get us something, if you don't want to."
Cerdian accepts the hug good-naturedly. It's impossible to not smile around Iris.
"No, I think I know a good gift for both of you." he says.
"How are your parents doing? How are the Titans?"
"My parents are doing pretty good," she said, "And I'm sure Daddy wouldn't mind at all if you stopped by." Hint, hint, nudge, nudge.
"We've gone through some stuff, but we're doing good," Iris said, "We had to save Cait's mom from Atlantis. And stop the kraken. But we're good!"
"I heard a little about that, but I was away on my trials when it occurred. I...saw a little of what happened." he says.
"Tell your father that I'll come by to see him soon. Dad wanted me to say hello and give him something anyway." Cerdian smiles.
"Does your mom still make those ginger cookies?"
"Mera's staying with us, if wanted to see how she was doing," Iris said. "She seems to be okay...all things considered."
Iris beamed at him. "I will. And yes, she does. And yes, they are still AWESOME."
"I think I'll wait around and take you up on that. Like I said, I needed to speak to Cait, anyway." he says.
"Those cookies sound good. I haven't had cookies or ice cream in...months. I may have to start making special trips to surface just for ginger cookies." he says.
"She should be back soon."
Iris's jaw nearly DROPPED.
"We need to fix this. NOW."
"If you have ice cream, sure, I'll have some." Cerdian says. "But please don't feel like you have to go to any trouble on my account.
I don't want you running out to get anything for me." he says.
Clearly, Cerdian has forgotten who he's talking to.
And while he was saying that, Iris ran out to get an assortment of various ice cream flavors.
"It's no problem!" She said with a grin, her arms laden with bags of ice cream cartons. "I got lots for you to pick and choose from!"
Being the gentleman he is, he immediately helps Iris get the ice cream into the kitchen. He hadn't wanted her to do that, but he realized that's just who Iris was.
"You look great, Iris. I remember Jai used to call you the 'Tomato-Lobster', but you certainly don't look like either of those." Cerdian says.
Iris zipped out the kitchen, getting bowls, spoons, and an ice cream scoop.
"Jai has always liked to flaunt his ability to tan," Iris said with a scowl.
Cerdian chuckles at Iris as she scowls. "Come on now, turn that frown upside down."
"Really, being able to tan isn't such a great thing. It leads to skin cancer, eventually."
"Jai and Mom have just always liked to flaunt their ability to not burn in front of me and Daddy." Iris laughed as she went about putting ice cream in the bowls.
"Well, I'm sure there are things you and your father can do that they can't?" Cerdian asks hopefully.
"Yes. Like I'm faster than Jai. No matter what he says." Iris smirked.
"I believe you, Iris." Cerdian smiles.
"What's your favorite flavor of ice cream?" he asks.
Iris looked at Cerdian as if he had ten heads.
"All ice cream is sacred," she said in a serious tone," It is impossible to just have ONE favorite flavor."
"I will remember this." Cerdian smiles.
"Personally, I'm a fan of vanilla and mint chocolate chip. Dad got me hooked on those when I was a kid." he says.
"I have that," Iris said, holding up a carton of vanilla and a carton of mint chocolate chip. "Uncle Garth has good taste." |
