Magic: Daemon Magic
Daemon magic is an ancient tradition that was almost lost when the Daemon Clan disappeared. There are a few Daemon families left in Aylasia, though most are not keen to claim their lineage.

Daemon magic is the use of drawn symbols to concentrate magical energy (think Full Metal Alchemist, to a degree). Most symbols have direct translations into English and are the written language of the Daemon clan. When used alone they have very specific purposes. When strung together they become more complicated to work and require a high degree of concentration.

When written without magical intent they are merely words, or pretty drawings to people who cannot read them as words. If a mage does not know the meaning behind a symbol the spell will often fail, or simply not work at all. Descendants of Daemon seem to have an inherent ability to make symbols work regardless of whether they know the true meaning. Their blood seems to give them the correct intent to work the magic.

At this point most of Daemon magic is an oral tradition passed down through the few surviving lines (though they still do not claim to be a part of the clan, almost as they are hiding for shame). There are some spell books that have been written since the passing of the clan, several of which are housed in Salem Academy's library.

The Lost Book of Daemonica may be the answer that the few remaining Daemon's have been seeking. It is known to them to be the most comprehensive spell book of Daemon symbols ever assembled. It is a veritable rosetta stone in regards to their magic. In the right hands it would give a Daemon all they need to know to work their magic. In the wrong hands it would give a mage with less scruples the meanings to form intent in the symbols. For a very long time no one knew where the book had been hidden, or even if it still existed.

Enki Chance found the book hidden in a wall of Graves Hall and decided to place the book in the care of the Salem Academy library so that others had access to the information.
