So, funny story. I have this sort of nightlife blog that I'm starting up, and one day, POOF! Just like magic, it completely disappears, even though it had nothing on it that could really offend much of anybody. "No problem", I think, "for I have backed up my work". Only for reasons known only to the evil gods of computer science, those backups had turned into an indecipherable mess.
Oh, I was so amused, so very, very amused. But eventually, the laughter must die down, because the neighbors begin to complain, and one's landlord is upset because the knives one's been throwing at the dartboard with the picture of one's former sysop on it have been embedding themselves a little too deeply into the wall. I think it's some sort of lease violation. What can one do? A few court orders and a small amount of community service later, one decides to move on, and focus on more productive pursuits. In this case, I recovered what I could, and moved on to Scribbld, where I hope that the service will be better, and maybe a little more predictable.
