People need to wear dapper hats more )

And the winner for best dressed, crazy awesome high octane team up goes to... [09 Oct 2012|12:48am]
1) Cut to the best dressed crimefighting duo finding some neighbourhood trouble to wrangle up

Wait-why are they all dressed up in Martin gear? Yeah, you know, the suit vest, hat, gloves, dress shirt and all.

Well it all began with Martin telling Frances ahead of time that she should wear her hat to be just as awesome. Enchanted bullets are a powerful motivator (no, not bribe).

Let it be said that Frances doesn't do anything half assed. Fully dressed in snazzy gear along with bluetooth headsets for theme music, and so begins the team up that most looks like a high octane mafia blockbuster got dosed on magic.

2) The duo find something to break up and jump in guns (and magic equivalents) blazing, with sunglasses at night, looking awesome as they take everything in sight out.

The police clearly don't believe the eye witnesses. A woman and teenage boy looking like magic mafia hitmen come blazing in? Likely story. This is just to cover up the illegal croc operation isn't it?

Oh, you say the teenage magic boy turned your stuff into assorted coloured crocs? Fascinating story but no, that's not going to get you an insanity plea. Hands behind your back please.

3) Frances and Martin go for post buttkicking snacks and milkshakes. While still smoking slightly.

Teammates and such are free to run into the mafia-looking hitmen duo eating ice cream. Though they might decide that asking is a bad idea.

Just slowly back away and don't make eye contact.

Meme [08 Oct 2012|03:16am]
Basics

1. What is your full name? Do you have a nickname?
Martin Baum and nope, no nicknames

2. How old are you? When is your birthday?
October 25. And hmm...not sure how old you'd count me. Chronologic or like how old I look? Or act? Actually I don't know the answer to the last one. It's not important.

3. Where were you born? Where do you live now? Are you patriotic?
Born in Detroit, I now live in New York and Boston! Well, depends on the night and where I want to sleep.

4. Who are/were your parents? (Names, occupations, personalities, etc.)

11. Do you consider yourself to be attractive? Do others?
Why does that matter? Oh, if it's for girl stuff then you just grow a goatee. At least that's what Dr. Strange did. I think it worked, because he always sends me on long errands for stuff when Clea comes. That's annoying.

12. What is your style of dress?
Well I always wear a vest and a white shirt but I roll up the sleeves. And I have a hat. So I'm like those cool magicians. But with real magic.

I don't bet money on stuff, and it's not lying just...not telling everything! That's how fun magic happens. I haven't stolen anything and umm...killing isn't good but it...can we talk about something else?

48. How far will you go to defend your beliefs?
I dunno. I can do a lot.

49. How much do you value money?

I think magic is the best!

Part 2:

Dealing With Others

57. Who is the most important person in your life, and why?
Only one? Then Dr. Strange! Because without him I'd have nothing, and he really is the best.

58. Who is the person you respect the most? Despise the most? Why?
Only one again? Because then it'd be the same as the last question...But yep Dr. Strange is the /greatest/. But Marlow and Orlen are pretty much family and have awesome magic too and people with awesome magic need respect. And most of the Thunderbolts I respect. Bea is The Sane One and let me stay so she gets extra. But I guess anyone who I like who was good in a fight could count too. Like Orlen's shooting friend. She's cool /and/ is going to teach me to shoot stuff. Oh and lots of fun, that's bonus points.

59. Do you have a significant other? Who?
Significant other what? Like a familiar? No, that's not my kind of magic.

60. Do you have a lot of friends? Who is your best friend?
If teammates can be friends then yes I have friends, because family is family and that's different. Manny especially is very friendly. And I like Frances because she's fun for adventures and never acts like stuff I do is weird.

61. How do you relate to members of the same race? Class? Sex?
By race you mean human races right? Because otherwise this question would be real different. Umm...okay I guess. I don't know what class I'd count as though. Can sorcerer be a class?

62. How do you relate to members of a different race? Class? Sex?
Hmm...actually I know more girls and non-magic and non-mutant people than the opposite. So that's all three up there isn't it?

63. Have you ever been in love? If so, describe what happened.
Not like you love your family? Well then that's a silly question. I love magic, that's enough.

64. What do you look for in a potential lover?
*blinks* I'm not going to be able to safely touch people so why will that ever matter to me? Magic is more important.

65. How close are you to your family?
...My family is dead if you're thinking of blood family. But my magic one I'm close to even if we don't see each other too often. I really like all of them. Marlow is especially good at hugs.

66. Do you want a marriage, family, and/or children?
No. I can't have that so why would I want it?

67. Do you tend to argue with people, or avoid conflict?
If they're wrong, they're /wrong/.

68. Are you a listener or a talker?
Depends who's talking.

69. How long does it usually take for you to trust others?
Depends who it is, sheesh.

70. Do you hold grudges?
/Yes./

71. Do you tend to take on leadership roles in social situations?
Nope.

72. Do you like interacting with large groups of people?
...No, not at all. That's dangerous.

73. How well do you express yourself?
I can't do illusions to illustrate things if that's what you're wondering. Don't rub it in.

74. How quickly do you judge others?
Oh I can tell if they have magic right away don't worry.

75. Do you care what others think of you?
...Yeah. It's not nice to have people dislike you.

76. Do you have any enemies? How or why are they your enemy?
Oh probably. I probably don't know them though, since some of our dimension hopping may have pissed people off. Orlen set fire to one guy's head once, I think he's still mad about that.

Personal Taste and Opinions

77. What is your favorite pastime? Color? Food? Possession?
Making fireworks, blue, Oreo milkshakes, and obviously my lucky magic hat. That's number one.

78. What are your preferences in arts and/or entertainment?
I like movies because they mean popcorn. But for entertainment there's only one thing: magic adventures! Or demon hunting. That works.

79. Do you smoke, drink, go whoring, or use drugs? Why or why not?
Nope, Nope, Nope, Nope. I have magic, that's all I need.

80. How do you spend a typical Saturday night?
The same way I spend any other night?

81. What is your most cherished fantasy?
That one day I'll be able to touch things and not have to worry.

82. How long is your attention span?
I'm good at concentrating when I study.

83. Do you laugh a lot? What do you find funny?
Funny things. Obviously.

84. Is there anything that shocks or offends you? If so, what?
Bad magic, making fun of my hands or calling them freakish, sub-par magic, and people saying less than nice things about Dr. Strange.

85. How do you deal with stress?
I'm a good crammer! Which isn't a good thing to do for spells but in a pinch it works.

86. How much athletic ability do you have? Artistic?
I'm coordinated! She kicked me okay? That doesn't count! And artistic hmm...my fireworks are /really/ awesome so that counts.

87. Do you like animals? Do you like children?
Yes but not around me in case things happen.

88. Are you spontaneous, or do you always need to have a plan?
I like having spells prepared and an idea of what to do with them but really that's the important part. Know your spells and the rest is fine!

89. What are your pet peeves?
People doing magic /wrong/ or /badly/. And not in the 'still learning' way either.

Self-Image

90. What is your greatest strength as a person? Weakness?
I'm a fast learner and a lot of things don't phase me. Weakness...well I don't have much experience.

91. If you could change one thing about yourself, what would it be?
Better control over my powers.

92. Are you generally introverted or extroverted?
I can do both.

93. Do you like yourself?
Yep! Most days.

94. Do you have a daily routine? How do you feel if your day is interrupted?
Not really, it changes a lot so I don't mind if it's interrupted. That usually means something fun.

95. What goal do you most want to accomplish in the next six months? Your lifetime?
Learn about guns and how to shoot one! Bow lady /promised/ she'd teach me. I'm even giving her magic arrows for it. But don't tell, that's a surprise.

96. Where do you see yourself in 5 years? 10 years? 20 years?
I can't do those spells yet but I'm working on it okay? Patience, sheesh. Time travel spells are hard.

97. If you could choose, how would you want to die?
A long time from now.

98. What is the one thing you would like to be remembered for after your death?
How good my magic was.

99. What three words would you use to best describe your personality?
It's always easier to just meet people you know.

100. What three words would others probably use to describe you?
Ask them not me then. That's a stupid question.

101. Why are you risking your life to adventure?
Because I'm a sorcerer and what else would I do?

Thunderbolts plotish outline [15 Jul 2012|09:18pm]
Following can be adapted to whatever, this is just a base template for some possibilities, from crack to something more serious whatever floats boats.

1) Martin decides to test out a spell
a) keep out intruders by sending them to different dimensions
b) send intruders to demon hotspots
c) tests out a time spell of some sort
2) Something (curious teammates, distractions, explosions, general chaos) breaks his concentration or (preferably) panics him, causing the spell to be reversed or inverted or such
3) Results:
a) Instead of intruders sent to different dimensions, all the teammates in the building including Martin get sent to said dimensions. (This can result in literally anything from vampire clowns (thanks Marlow), zombie pirranhas, fighting evil versions of self/teammates, and pretty much whatever someone wants. Magic plus dimension hopping can explain a lot)
b) Instead demons get transported into HQ
c) TBolts are sent back in time (historical fun) or into the future (distant or recent like seeing future selves)
4) Team must fight their way either out of where they are (a and c) to give Martin some time to set up spells to send them back (can take multiple tries so more than one dimension/time period can be used) or must rid the HQ of their demon pests.
5) Thunderbolts get back (if it's an ongoing/constant spell he started then he manages to stop the spell)
6) Martin decides that maybe the living room isn't a good place to cast/test out spells.

And they all lived not-so-sanely ever after.

Note: If we go for the time travel plot I don't think Martin has the skill or knowledge at this point to get them accurately back to the right time. This could result in a few time jumps closer and I might need to get the future version of him to show up at the end and fish them all out and back to the right time. (He probably won't see his future self though, the others might).

20 Questions [03 Mar 2012|07:22pm]

1. When were you born? Where?
I'm technically 13 and I was born in Detroit. But we moved to New York when I was 3.

2. What were some of the first words and phrases you spoke?
Apparently one of the first words I used to say a lot was "jump". I don't know why, it's a little weird...

3. At what age did you first attend school? What school did you go to? Did youlike it?
5 and I don't really remember the school name. It was something Montessori School though.

4. Name one of your fondest childhood memories.
Summer vacation to Mexico with the family, it was the best.

5. Now name one of your worst.
When my powers manifested. The weeks after were pretty bad too.

6. Name one of your most embarrassing.
When the whole magic thing started there were quite a few times when I learned the hard way that all my clothes needed to be layered with charms and stuff because if I touched them my magic...well yeah. I had to get new clothes a lot in the beginning.

7. Which parent/adult were you closest to as a small child?
Pretty much equal for both my parents.

8. What about as a teenager?
It's my first year as a teenager technically so I can't really answer this.

9. Did you ever try drinking, drugs, or both? What all have you tried? Were youever caught?
Nope, neither. Magic is more than enough, it'd probably make some drugs look tame at times.

10. Did you ever skip school? How frequently?
I only went to school until about end of grade 5 and never skipped.

11. Who was your best friend when you were really small?
Alex Freid, we climbed everything we could together.

12. Who was your best friend when you were a teenager?
Just became one so I can't say. I did meet a lot of new people recently though.

13. Did you sleep with stuffed animals? At what age did you stop – if you ever did?
I had a stuffed koala that my dad got me after a business trip. He's on a bookshelf in my room in the Sanctum now.

14. Did you ever have braces or glasses growing up?
Still growing but nope.

15. Did you ever break your arm or leg and need crutches – or anything similar to that?
I broke my arm falling out of a tree I was climbing once. I was 6 I think.

16. Did you ever have any strange habits that you outgrew but were teased for?
No, I'm weirder now than I used to be.

17. How well did you get along with your parents and siblings?
When my parents were alive we were pretty close, I'm an only child.

18. If you could go back and change one thing about the past, would you? What would you change?
I wish that when my powers manifested I was somewhere deserted and alone so I couldn't hurt anyone. I don't know how I could change that though. And even though I know lots of time spells, and one day I may be good enough to do that kind of precise time travel...I'm not supposed to change things. So I don't like thinking about that type of stuff.

19. What were some of your favorite pranks to pull when you were younger? Did you have any favorite jokes? What made you laugh the most back then?
I don't know, I liked most jokes. Except knock knock jokes for some reason. Never liked those.

20. Did you have any pets? If not, why? If you did, what were they?
We used to dog-sit for some neighbours once in a while. It was fun cause it was like having a different dog each time. I did turn that purple crazy opponent into a guinea pig the other day, so can that count as a pet?

Test Scene [20 Nov 2011|01:51am]

Martin gives his fingers a preparatory wiggle as he looks down at the table he’s set up in the middle of the room. No place like the Sanctum Sanctorum to try out a new spell. He’s drawn out the seal on the table, gotten all the materials ready and placed the books aside. Theoretically he was just compressing some air to liquid form, but practically it required a lot of pressure. Pressure he was hoping to create with magic, a lot of it.

“Can’t forget the most important part!” Martin dashes over and grabs the top hat he’s placed on a nearby bookshelf and flips it onto his head. One tip of the hat down over his forehead and he’s ready. “Lucky magic hat let’s do our thing!”

One last finger flex and he claps his hands together to build up power in them, once they start glowing a bright blue he holds his hands out and starts whispering under his breath. Magic seals appear and form around the area above the table. As they glow brighter and brighter the symbols and writing within them start to fill until complete. Martin waits for the seals to contact one another and clenches his teeth, now for the grunt work. Letting the amount of magic he’s releasing increase slowly increase, the seals start to move towards the center of the table and the area within them becomes smaller and smaller. He slowly brings his hands closer and closer together as the light of the seals becomes even brighter.

*BAM* He forces his hands together at the last few centimetres creating a burst of power. Now to wait until the magic in the room dissipates to see if it worked…

Still pressing his hands together he waits until the air clears and…
“Yes!” Martin jumps into the air and fist pumps the moment he sees the little sealed cube of liquid.

“I did it! Another win for Martin and his lucky hat!”

There’s more celebration dancing and the next fist pump send sparks of magic out, some of which hit a nearby chair. Well, it’s no longer a chair now.

The former chair looks up at him, “Ribbit”.

“Oh shoot! No no no, not again.”

Scrambling over to the toad he’s on his knees in front of it, hands hovering over the poor thing. “Okay, at least I’ve done this before.” He taps the toad simultaneously with both his index fingers glowing blue. A puff of smoke and it’s back to its chair form.

“Phew, at least Dr. Strange didn’t see that one.”

App [19 Nov 2011|11:15pm]

NextGen Application (Canon and OC)

Player (nickname, handle)/ LJ: Sands
Email: five_sands@hotmail.com
AIM (if you have one): sands2279
Character Name: Martin Baum
Character LJ (if applicable): magic_hands
Physical description (face, build, weight): light brown hair, hazel eyes, average build but fit (a certain sorcerer believes one shouldn’t be lazy in any part of one’s studies)
Age: physically 16, mentally 13
Birthday: October 25
PB: (If using one.): Ryan Koning
Abilities:
Astral Projection – one of the few abilities he has good control over and can maintain it even at large distances
Magic Discs- Martin uses these as a platform for teleportation and to allow him to fly while standing on them. Can also be used as protective shields.
Concealment spells- renders Martin and those in direct physical contact with him invisible for a time
Time Manipulation- can freeze objects in time for a few minutes at most, animals and people for shorter amounts of time. The largest objects he can freeze in time are about the size of 2 large bookcases, and he can only stop or slow down a maximum of two people at a time. He usually puts up a seal on the object or person he wishes to effect
If he loses control or the gloves give out, Martin can freeze entire city blocks in time for hours. This has only happened once and the potential side effects mean he is very careful about not losing control again.
Teleportation- uses the discs as a platform for this, and passes through the Dark Dimension as an intermediate whenever teleporting. This is the ability he has the most practice at.
Transmutation- cannot control this very well, so avoids using it. If not focusing when touching things he accidentally uses this.
Telepathy- he’s working on this, but since he’s only interacted with Dr.Strange and other mystics that are adept at it, he hasn’t had much practice.
Telekinesis – limited, can work with things desk sized and smaller.

Weaknesses and flaws:

Martin’s body has become a portal to magic energies, with his hands being the main exits for magic to leak out. Because of this, Dr. Strange has developed and given him gloves that restrict the flow of magic out of him and put layers of sealing spells on top of them. But these gloves can only hold back so much, and if Martin doesn’t concentrate while handling things, the magic leaks out and can lead to unexpected results, mostly transmutations (he’s accidentally turned many of Dr. Strange’s magical books into small animals). Because of this he’s very wary about touching anything, especially people.

Despite appearances, Martin is rather inexperienced and is slower at casting spells than more experience sorcerers. Because of this he can't always get shields up in time or freeze objects in time fast enough to avoid injury. He's a fast learner but his main weakness is lack of experience in using magic in emergency situations in this dimension (the magical realms and demons he can deal with a bit better).

Character location/Home: New York
Alignment (villain, hero etc): Hero
Relatives (living/dead?): Michael Baum (father/deceased), Natalie Baum (mother/deceased)
Backstory:
At 10, Martin Baum and his family were driving out of New York for holiday when a superhero fight knocks part of a nearby building out. The falling debris causes chaos on the road as people and cars frantically try and get away. As panic erupts Martin’s X-gene manifests and his body develops portals directly to magic sources in other dimensions. The sudden buildup causes the magicks to explode out of him, decimating everything in a block radius, including his parents. The disturbance in magical energies brings Dr. Strange to the scene, who decides that the best way for the boy to learn to adapt to his mutant power and control it is to become his student. Martin goes to live with Dr. Strange and Wong where he starts learning the basics.
While helping Strange in another magical dimension, his body experienced time faster than his mind. This has caused Martin’s body to age physically to 16 while his mind has remained at 13.

How do you plan to introduce the character to the game?: have him join the Thunderbolts and put in some magic shenanigans
What are you planning to do with this character? attempt to socialize more and get used to using his powers to help people. Practice makes perfect.
What do you want to see happen with this character?: Learn not to fear touching people, and to have more control over his magic. Also to learn new spells and improve on old ones.
