The cheapest bid is not always the best bid. The construction home improvement business is filled with bad contractors that bid low on projects, ask for half up front, and then never finish the job. Always be wary of a contractor that does not want to work out a payment schedule and demands half, or more, of the money up front. For smaller jobs most contractors will either bill you or ask for the money after the job is done.
The new house comes complete with two and a half bathrooms for two and a half times the renovation. We'll replace the countertops in the full bathrooms, erasing the previous owner's choice of lime green and pink marble laminate. While already a large space, we hope to add additional square footage to the kitchen by pushing back an interior wall. The increased space will provide us with an eatin kitchen and oodles of cabinet storage and countertop space. We'll replace the cabinets, clearing space for taller wall cabinets by ripping out unnecessary soffits. In our previous home, we turned to Lowe's for cabinets and installation; we expect to do the same at our new address. We eagerly anticipate the acquisition of a double wall oven to help with cooking and baking.
