When Tatum's fingers twitched, Mack felt a wave of relief wash through her. Even though they had told everyone in the waiting room that she was going to be okay, Mack still couldn't believe it until she saw it for herself. She let out a forced laugh that sounded more painful than anything else, and wiped at her eyes.
"Yeah, you're pretty tough," she said thickly, trying to stop the flow of tears that just didn't seem to want to stop. She swiped at them with her sleeve, never letting go of Tatum's hand. "Gotta be to keep a girl like me in check I guess." She sat down on the bed next to the girl, being careful not to disturb her. She gave the girl's hand another kiss, and held it against her lips for a few moments.
"You're not invincible though," she said, trying to keep her emotions in check. "What the hell were you thinking Tatum?"
